On one hand, I'd enjoy being part of the process- it'd be interesting (hopefully) and I'd feel good about "contributing" to society other than just voting...

OTOH, it SUX that you're forced to lose big $$$ from work to attend, not even lunch provided...

I've never done it, never will, being diabetic. Bummer that I can't give blood either, due to same reason.

Wonder why the costs of attending aren't defrayed with some kind of tax deferral, equivalent to lost wages whilst on jury duty?

We pay our employees their full wage if they sit on a jury. No sense in them losing money to do their civic duty. Carol

The time I was called I asked the judge to be excused. I explained that we were really busy at work and I was the boss. I told him that I do indeed take vacations but it takes a bit of planning.
The judge asked me "Mr.Tymn, what do your employees do while your away?"
I looked him square in the eye and said "Probably not a whole lot".
He smiled and said I could be excused. I would have been eliminated anyway as it was a sexual harassment suit and I was a business owner.

My employer also pays standard wage if I was to serve.

In NY at least, the courts do pay you for your time, but it isn't much.

Been called to serve jury duty four times. Twice, the case settled before getting to court. The other two times, I got to jury interview and was excused both times - in my opinion, for having an actual opinion. So the OP is half right. The lawyers don't necessarily want smart people serving - they ask too many questions and don't always do what they're told. (I was kinda looking forward to the one with the guy that had allegedly knocked off four banks)

Been called twice.
The first time, a few years ago, the case got canceled.
This last time, about a month ago I asked to be let out of it since it is my busiest season and if the trial last more than a day or two it would probably put me out of business. They let me off but I could be called on again in Nov.
IF I had the time I really wouldn't mind doing it but I really do not have the time this time of the year.

Sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time...

I have NO confidence in our justice system, after being dragged into something for years that I wanted no part of.

If someone has enough money and a sneaky enough lawyer they can get almost anything they want from our court system.

It makes me sick.

"Thou shalt not judge" what about that?

I'm not a religious person but how about "Thou shalt not sin"

If you are going to court I would imagine there is some sin involved

If "Thou shalt not judge", does that mean you lack judgement, and you're more likely to screw up?
