Just the KLR 650 is mine - in the dealer's driveway. Picking it up Saturday. Not sure what the others are sorry. I think they are 400's. I wanted a versatile bike that I can do most of the things I used to do on the Uly - dirt roads and a bit of touring, but while we're re-establishing ourselves it's one I could afford new. |

what are the two kaws behind it? They're KLX250S. I've got one. Great for putting around on the trails and gets 70 mpg. |

That should be fun! I've wondered how a big single that is really tricked out for the street works long term. The XR-650 (big single mainly targeted for dirt) generally isn't worth the headache for day in day out street use (in the experience of the people around me). But the KLR looks like it might... |

I am interested in the long term, daily live-a-bility as well. I had a KX-80, OA, in my youth and rode the snot out of it with never a problem. Now that the newest Uly is 2 years old and climbing, I would like a cheap on/off roader. |

So far so good. Picked it up Saturday and did 100 miles around Brisbane in running it in mode over the weekend. I find it very easy to live with, not a lot of power, but it's tall and quite comfortable for a large man. The national speed limit here is 65 max so it's not that constant exercise in self-control needed to keep a licence on a sports bike. Very economical and well mannered off road too. Good in traffic, good around town. Like a big mountain bike really. So far I've removed the hand muffs and tuned the rear suspension. Next mod will be some better fork springs. Shock is OK for now. It's got better headlights than the Buell! Nobody but kids waves at it. Suits me :-) |

No headache for me.My XR650R has been trouble free for 25000 miles.Oil change & valve adjustments about every 2000 miles.Actually nothing but smiles.I do like the KLR.Wish it made about 45-50 hp.New a guy that put about 35000 miles on one in about 6 months. |

I always find it interesting to see what motor-journalists buy for themselves, with their own hard-earned cash, having driven/ridden so many other vehicles. I too will be following your developing relationship with your new toy. |

Well the lure of a new bike proved too much yesterday so I ducked out of some work and headed west - into the hills around Brisbane. Even found a nice bit of dirt and really remembered why I like these bikes so much.

Good to see you have wheels and found some time to get out and about How's the new pad? Vamps and I are knee deep in F-100 on the weekends at the moment, but in a couple of weeks we should have time to catch up for a ride |

Hey DD, I know it's short notice but I'm going for a morning ride with some friends tomorrow if you're not doing anything. We're meeting at BP Burpengary North servo at 7.00am, will probably head towards Maleny for coffee or something like that. Speaking of chilly, where/when is the next 'Project' gig? I haven't done any gigs while I've been working on recording, but I will have to get my @ss into gear and organise something before the end of the year PM sent. |

Klr's are great!! I have a red...pink one now the sun has baked the plastics! A great bike to just do about anything you want to do. I call mine the mule also. I put on a IMS desert tank that hold 7 gallons. Weighs a lot full some where around 48 lbs of added weight when full. First things first ditch the wimpy plastic skid plate. Fix the doohickey and upgrade the sub frame bolts. A good info site and forum: http://klrworld.com/ A good parts site:http://www.klr650.com/ I like these enduros.....Great fun and they can get you into a mess and then take you back home again. The best part is no trailer needed it goes everywhere. |

Fun thread! Hey Prey- IIRC, DD's bike is new enough to not have to worry about the doohickey, right? Got my Shovel sold- in the spring, if I've still got $$$, I might consider a D/S... PLENTY of great riding for one of those around here, got buddies that are deep into their D/S's... Speaking of buddies, here's Megan and Francois' site- they're uber-gearheads, and have made a successful biz out of it here locally. Great peeps to boot! http://www.dualsporttouring.com/xlsws_php/index.ph p?o=startpage |

The doohicky has been beefed up a little on the newer models but it has never been fully addressed. Eagle manufacturing has the best one i have seen to date.http://www.eagle-m-e.com/productlist.htm |
