It would have fuel in the frame, be stable in the corners, have a good top speed and plenty of power, kinda like this one. Greetings All ... for those who know about, or work with the military, may have heard about the new JHSV ships coming out next year. These ships (Joint High Speed Vessels) are about 338 feet long and are powered by 4 massive waterjets for a top speed in the 40+ knot range, and will be used to transport troops and equipment around the world. Their predecessors have been used for humanitarian relief efforts as well. The first couple will be operated by Military Sealift Command civilians.
Note the ramp and huge cargo area which can handle M1A2 Abrams tanks, and should be able to handle quite a few Buells ...
So why am I telling everyone this, well ... the word came out yesterday that Command of the first one of the class (named Spearhead), which is being built in Alabama and should be ready next December ... is mine. For all of you who serve, Thanks for what you do. I'll do my best to support you. /CC (Message edited by captcaz on December 01, 2010) |

Congratulations, sir! Those boyz next door in Mobile at Austral are some fine shipbuilders. Alloy, aren't they? Now you can beat up on some LCACs! |

Captain, If you don't have your XB down here with you, please be advised that about 40 miles due west of you, in Ocean Springs is a snorty ol' tuber named "Sluggo" that you are absolutely welcome to at any time. Just shout. We DO have curves down here...I know where they both are. |

Thanks guys! Now you know where all those recycled aluminum cans went to ... Sea trials won't happen for a while ... 'some assembly required' (my least favorite XMas phrase!).
'Plankowner' for the second time (first time was first officer on a salvage ship), and it's my 10th different command on the 7th different class of ship. By far the fastest ... the Austral website lists 43 knots (50 mph) as the top speed, but we'll see. Got a former Bueller who sold his 12Ss and is looking for a new one who may be 2nd in command as well ('twoblocked' here on BW). Hey Odie ... it's in your neck of the woods ... if you've got a H-60, I've got a flight deck!! |

Hey, I've been inside of that ship! I had a brief stint at Austal but was stolen away by my current employer. I was excited to work there but with a democrat in the white house and way more money on the table I had to say goodbye. I'm really glad they got the contract on those vessels. It should really help the local economy. |

Congratulations Captain, thats a pretty sweet looking boat. On the subject of navy ships, awhile ago I machined something to do with a large door on one of new LSC-1 ships built in WI. It was pretty cool, it was so big we made it in two pieces and even then we had to shift it around on the machine to get the whole thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Littoral_combat_ship I'm pretty sure it was the Freedom class style I made the parts for. |

Very cool ship and congrats on your new command. Is it really all aluminum construction? I was under the impression after the debacle in the Falkland island war. Military ships of that size were no longer being made of aluminum. They must have changed their policy |

Congrats!! I am a plank owner on a vessel beloning to the State of Florida. Pretty neat to be one of the original crew, especially on a unique vessel. I spent over 13 years on the water, and aquired a USCG 50 Ton w/towning Capt License. Need any more crew?? |

I hear-by exclaim that a "BadWeB Buell riders day" should be put on by our Government as a public show of pride for the new ship and it's Commander! I think it could work with, or even supersede a Buell Homecoming event! Congrats on the assignment! Yeah, I could see it.....400 Buell riders from around the World take there American Made bikes on a three day tour of the Gulf of Mexico.....yeah.....that is the ticket! |

With the size of that thing you could set up a Battletrax cours on the deck and bring the Buell along for the ride. That would be pretty crazy not knowing if when you came into a corner the boat would list and make it a negative of positive bank ??? |

Looks very similar to some of the high speed ferries used over here. http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/fleet/normandie- express/technical-specification Commonly known as "Vomit comets" in this part of the world. I've ridden a few of them & can understand why. Congrats on your new command Cap'n. |

Paint ~ I'm headed over to a towing/salvage ship next week ... check out 'USNS Grasp'. Grumpy ~ There are cantilevered foils on the inboard side of each hull about a quarter of the way back from the bow(s) and interceptors on the stern that are part of the 'ride control system' ... hopefully they will help with the ride. If not, maybe I can use them to create a positive bank ALL the time for Koz? ... never mind, my 'uncle' might frown on it. |

I'm in awe! I've always been impressed with captains... they are a special breed. Was your father a captain as well? I wish I had taken my father's advice and joined the Navy when I was younger. I'll bet every sailor aboard your new command will be very proud of her, too! On the day of Christening be sure and ride up on your Buell! |
