Hoot and Oldog! Thank you very much! I swapped out the 16V with the 35V myself in about 30 minutes without ever having touched a soldering iron in my life.

8 for Soldering Iron
3 for Solder
3 for Capacitor

Came out to 15 dollars and change with tax, and that is NYC Radio Shack prices. I can only imagine that it is cheaper somewhere else. I was about to put my tv on the street for recycle and buy another.

Whatever, I am so glad you put this up. I think you saved me hundreds.

Don't thank me... thank that girl on Youtube... sh*t if a teenage girl with collagen in her lips can figure it out, I guessed I could.

We will see what we can do tomorrow... to be continued...

Char, don't use a solder gun! Use a real soldering iron meant for electronics.
Watch the polarity of the cap, it's important!
One of the leads will have a + or a - printed on the side of the can, make sure the new cap goes in the same as the old one.
It just might be that they used a cap that doesn't have high enough voltage rating, like mentioned above a cap with a higher voltage rating will work, maybe better than the original.

Some tools you will need:
Soldering iron with an electronics tip (very small chisel or point).
Electronics rosin core solder.
Might want some desoldering braid to help remove solder from the original component.
A dental pick to help loosen up the old cap leads.
Patience.
Good eyes.......

Cell phone to call a friend if you have questions.

If you want my # pop me an IM, I'm on vacation this week and should be available most any time.

Thanks Brad.
Michael is doing the soldering.
However, I hope it goes a little better than the tire change yesterday...

Oh... the agony of defeat...

Bastiges at Radio Shack did not have the capacitor I needed... so now to track it down... indeed. TV is still dead.

Look back on the previous page, I posted a link where you can order it. They're dirt cheap too.

Yeah I had to forward the order page to Michael, it is really complicated. But I need a 2200 uf 10v or a 2200 uf 16v. Gonna check out a place in Raleigh tomorrow because I can just bring in the entire power board. Gotta go to Raleigh anyhow.

10 volt, 2200 uf. Need the diameter since you can get various sizes. That's just a couple of them. Do you need both 10 & 16 volt caps or were you just going by the 2200uf?

The dash lines on the side indicate the polarity (negative side shown).

Here's a 16v.

Avoid the ones marked "Farnell direct ship" for US ordering of small quantities.

I'd go with a 16V to get a bit more margin (if it will fit on the board). Here are a couple they have in stock...

http://www.newark.com/rubycon/16pk2200mefc10x20/ca pacitor-alum-elec-2200uf-16v/dp/39T8549

Actually, instead of buying that one for 50 cents, step up to the really good one, and splurge for 61 cents:

http://www.newark.com/rubycon/16yxg2200m12-5x25/ca pacitor-alum-elec-2200uf-16v/dp/38M1431

That one is rated for a higher operating temperature. Probably smaller also.

Newark ships almost supernaturally fast.

Yeah, Michael said the 16 v will give more room if it gets over loaded. Just gonna go in person bc I can see if it will fit.
But thanks for the help.

If it is a case of voltage spikes, yes, it will give more margin. And it will be more durable regardless.

Caps are also rated on their ability to withstand heat... they are little chemistry experiments, and fragile relative to other components. You can see the temperature rating differences between the two above. They probably use fundamentally different chemistry.

That being said, whatever you get will probably be fine until you are bored with the TV...

Ha ha ha... it is fixed. Watching some old Jerry Lewis movie. I always thought he was annoying, but he is actually kindof funny.

THANKS TO MICHAEL....

Is there an equivalent to choppers in the world of consumer electronics? Picture your TV with ape-hangers and no suspension. The horror.
