>>> The guy was the subject of an ongoing covert operation against gun crime in London. When they tried to stop the cab he was traveling in he pulled a gun so they shot him. Okay, so it was a really quick shootout. |

Geez Ken, "Cesspool" is not close to a fair characterization of Europe. That's and awfully insulting incredibly sweeping mis-characterization of a lot of very good folks over there. Left leaning PC infected maybe, but not a cesspool by any stretch of the imagination. Ben Spies really like Lake Como. Great 1st article on Elbowz in the current (September) issue of RRW. |

Matt, Would you that lack of discipline (lack of consequences for poor behavior) and a sense of entitlement are responsible for the riotous behavior? |

Blake: FWIW I believe what you said to be true. Although the current economic situation gets a lot of blame. (especially if you read the Guardian) I believe that these "riots" are more to do with the fact that the participants can challenge authority & by and large get away with it. IMHO: The riots in the '80's were more about the economy. These really smack of opportunistic looting/troublemaking forays by groups & individuals who don't respect their environment or the property of others. Chris C |

The mish mash, bangers and mash and assorted trash of our US collective family is, indeed, folk who came here from across the pond. What made us the juggernaut of money after WW2 was Britain's war dept to the US, therewith knocking them off the cat bird's seat after a century of the Pound Sterling being world reserve currency. Before that the French for a long time, before that the Spanish. What we offered was opportunity to succeed and make money, no guilds, no licenses required to sell pencils on the street, no separating us out at age 13 to track towards university or the trades. Get a trade, go start a company, become successful and wealthy (until your kids spend it). WW2 made us technically and economically great, but once we got our wars going over there, and there, and that place there, and now there and there, well, our age is coming to an end, just like Britain's and Europe before it. Problem with a commonwealth is everyone comes home to visit the queen and never leaves, just hides out in the East End with all four trotters in the public trough, pinching purses, driving a minicab, operating an unlicensed afterhours gaming club in their garden shed, robbing and a stabbin'and a lootin' and a shootin'. Hm, sounds like here. |

Thanks Blake... I had to read a bunch of drivel from Ann The Man to get to the part about guns... Once she gets to whacking on Wisconsin... she really goes off her rocker. Madison has by far and away one of the best police forces in the USA. They have learned from their mistakes, have a great police chief that has worked his way up the ranks, and effective use of horses, pepper spray and physical restraints, in addition to tasers and fire power. Note for Ann: None of the protests this year in Wisconsin turned violent... NONE. Very bad example and very poor form for something she knows nothing about. I am very proud of my friends that work for them (Madison PD). They do have more on their hands than most in larger cities... with, what I see as most of the major problem... SPOILED RICH KIDS THAT COME IN FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY TO ONE OF THE BIGGEST PARTY SCHOOLS IN THE NATION... I somehow really doubt that the riots during Halloween in Madison were ever a product of the welfare state... unless you count rich conservative over privileged good for nothing stupid frat boys. The working poor have too many responsibilities for that crap... they have no one to take care of their families if they end up in jail. And yes, I have dealt extensively with both- the so called 'moochers' that have public-state health care and children and jobs at minimum wage, AND the bratty frat crowd... who would jump on top of people's cabs and throw beers at them for a good time. I had far less trouble with the former than the later the four years I worked full time as a cab driver in Wisconsin... of which on my last day I had to kick three of them (the later) out before I pummeled them with my clipboard. I really do think too one thing overlooked on the London riots is the DRUG CULTURE. Meth and smack will make you do crazy things that would otherwise seem ludicrous. |

Conservative frat boys? Isn't that an oxymoron? You mean uppity spoiled brats like the Kennedy children? |

I have a young relative that fits the spoiled rich kid category and who goes to the U in Madison. Her grandfather is the one who foots the bill. Oddly he is very conservative and she has become ultra liberal and despises him and his views. Doesn't stop her from taking the money, though. Is there a micro-lesson in that? Char, I think I am in the category of working poor. And I do know many who are also in the category who, like me, do not stomach the nanny state at all. It is rather the spoiled rich kids and the spoiled welfare kids together who tend to become so destructive in society. Maybe the spoiled rich kid gets the foot in the arse wake up call later and becomes "conservative". They are not the product of a conservative culture but a bad parenting culture. Likewise, the welfare kids are products of a no parenting culture. To me, it all starts at home with mom and dad. |

Are you really contending that the police arrested nine people for sitting? They would have booked thousands if that was their standard. Funny blaming the reporter for the police making arrests though. |

I didn't even recall any Wisconsin in Ann's column. She may be unpalatable to the left, but she brings a lot of very interesting information to the discussion. Recently she noted that 70% of our prison population are products of a single mother home and that when looking at the rest of the prison population absent those from single mother homes, the racial distribution matches that of the general population. That should be a nuclear hot red light to all Americans that we need to stop the glorification of single motherhood. |

Those protesters wanted to be arrested. It's why they were there. Their indignant outrage is dishonest. Oh! Now we see the violence inherent in the system. Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed! |

"oh unless it is Faux News" RULE 5: "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon." There is no defense. It's irrational. It's infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. Just so everyone knows what game this is. |
