Anyone here ever vacation there? So I'm trying to book my rooms for our honeymoon in Belize and trying to figure out where to stay on Ambergris Caye for the second half of our trip. There's a bunch of really nice hotels on the north side of the island but I'm worried that it will be a PITA to get to/from the nice hotels since they're a bit away from the main town. Was thinking of renting a golf cart to get me around, good idea? Any insight of the island would be great. We'll be in Ambergris Caye for 5 days. I/we plan on diving for the first few days then relaxing for the last two. I've already booked the first leg of our trip in the jungle. | ||

You a lucky man! I cannot be of any help with your problem. Hell, my honeymoon consisted of my wife and I staying at home with my best friend who came to do the best man thing, then he was to stay at our place while we were supposed to be gone for the weekend. The whole thing was kind of like pushing a rope up hill into the wind. | ||

Are you renting gear, or bringing your own? That'll determine what kind of transportation you need to be thinking about. If you rent scooters, take pictures of the bikes before you leave the lot, especially if it's a relatively new scooter that has been dropped. Some places will try to pin that on you when you come back. Interesting note about Belize: There are fewer people living there now than there were before Columbus. The population has not yet recovered from the Spanish invasion. There should be some interesting ruins to explore, if that kind of thing strikes your fancy. The ruins in nearby Cozumel are absolutely enchanting. I only saw two other people the entire time I was there, and one of them was the guy you pay to get in to the park. Being totally alone in the ruins enhances the desolate feel of the place, and makes the absence of the people who lived there that much more pronounced. | ||

No cars except those belonging to residents, you rent golf carts and everything is close. Some Mayan ruins there but better ones just boat ride away. Good beer!We stayed on south end. | ||

Been there, done that. We stayed at journeys end. Easy bicycle ride to town, golf cart makes it even easier. Definitely not cheap 3rd world style, prices comparable to USA. Diving was pretty good... blue hole was awesome. The snorkeling at the barrier reef is free and really good. have a blast | ||

Is it easy enough to get to the more secluded resorts from San Pedro on a daily basis via bicycle or golf cart? Or is it mostly water taxi? I hate to feel like I'm stuck somewhere on a resort only but don't know if that what it's like. From what I read it seems as though it's a pain to get to/from the more secluded places on the island but that's seems hard to believe. There's one place I was looking at that's 4 miles from San Pedro and folks were writing like it was on the other side of the planet. The resort is north of the toll bridge. I guess there's a toll bridge for golf carts/bicycles??? | ||

Journeys End is on the northside. I was pretty against an inclusive resort. It is just not my style. But this place was pretty chill and made things a little easier. I definetly didn't feel stuck. I don't really recall the toll being an issue so it must be pretty cheap. Or it dosent apply to bicycles. |
