There is no local dealer for Aprilia for me. That pretty much rules out ownership. |

I have two Aprilias, a 2002 Futura and a 2005 Tuono Factory both bought new. My experience has been good with both bikes. The Futura has been super reliable though that's likely due to efforts on my part in putting in pre-emptive fixes- example adding supplemental wiring to the charging system. The Tuono,( for sale) no issues but it only has 8965 miles on it. As for handling and power neither disappoint but my standards are less as I'm an old guy. Ownership/maintanance is a do-it-yourself affair due to sparse dealer network, slightly more intensive than the Uly due to chain drive and liquid cooling. Neither bike is difficult to work on except for removal of many fasteners on the Futura bodywork to access engine as required. All in all I can attest to a good experience with Aprilias and if you live in Texas one of the best dealers in the country is in new Braunfels near San Antonio. |

Wow, Jeremy, I'm surprised that Nashvegas is still so bike-benighted... I'm with ya on the Trumpet though. Motorcycle Daily had a good comparo on the Triumph Street Triple R and the FZ8... Back when I was still in MC sales, we got a Tuono traded in- ran like a cat with its tail on fire, sounded great, slick ride. Didn't last long at all on the sales floor... Always liked the Futura too. |

+1 Fatty If we had a Priller dealer in middle TN I would own one. At least a scoot and maybe a Tuono or SXV. What I have heard from my local dealers(Bloodworth/East Side/Castle) is that Piaggio (Piller Mothership) is bish to work with. IRRC: They require sizable inventory and floorspace as well as expensive proprietary P&A and sales systems as well as a minimum purchase of marketing materials and signage each year. For what most see as a sideline boutique line. |

I'm sure the Tuono is a great bike. I've never heard anything but good things about it. I'd buy one if: 1) There were a local dealer to support it 2) It wasn't as unattractive as it is 3) I had ANY money I know many are "function over form" folks. I'm not. I want it to perform well AND look beautiful. The second part is subjective, I know, but with all the beautiful bikes on the market, why buy one that isn't beautiful as well as functional? |

I'm casting my vote for the Speed Triple too. If I were shopping for a bike, that is the one I would own. |

Really? You have to have 150 hp? Then your choices are down to the RC8 1190 and the RSV4 Factory which are both $20K +...and I'd be very jealous if you bought either. |

You forgot about various Ducati offerings and BMW.

Who needs 103hp in a street bike? Even the Blast at 34hp is overkill most of the time. All the power on tap that my 1125R has is fantastic for the few opportunities I use it. But it is all irrelevant, the OP said he can't afford a newer Buell, so every single bike mentioned in this thread is out of his league. |

How is the Speed Triple out of his league? The 06+ are all rated at NEAR 150hp and you can pick them up for $6,000 (maybe less). |

Well if "the newer buells are to pricey for me", I don't know what else he will find. Late model Firebolts and 1125s can be had for around $5k depending on year and condition. |

i do love the 1125r,s i have also been looking at them also, but yet again i am talking in the spring here. i love my tuber but i also want something that has way to much power. and yes i did look into ducati but i do not have 20 grand to spend and the money to fix it every 500 miles(so i have heard) |

What Ducati have you been looking at then if they are $20k? Even most of their bikes brand new are less than $20k. They are about the same as Buell and BMW in typical cost and reliability. |

You could also hold your nose and buy a B-King. I couldn't. I really like the Speed Triple a lot. The new one just feels comfortable to me like my Lightning. Way more power than I feel the need for though. My wife's Street Triple has plenty of power and is so light it's a blast to ride. Even with the Corbin seat it's not as comfortable as my Lightning though. There's more important things to me than HP. |

Neil having ridden with you I am sure you could get a lot out of the 150 +hp machines however all is not as it appears. IE: I was actually faster in the turns on my XB than I am on the CR. With all that horsepower a rider can and many have lost rear wheel traction coming out of corners it's pretty easy to do. I tell you what next time we are out ride the CR for awhile then make a choice. The Aprillia is a great bike but hell to get parts for and far from bullet proof.I love the Triumph Daytona 675 it has the best of both worlds. Just my opinion. |

hey dave,, you know alot of people have told me to look into a triumph i do like the way they look but i have never heard annything good or bad from them. and about the riding the cr idk about that it is not my bike and i would not be able to get a good feel from it right away i would need some time.. and the rear traction in the corners i have actually had that problem on the x1,, a just put a michelin 2ct 180 on her and i love it great tire so far i have not layed her all the way down yet since it only has 150 miles on it as of now. |

There was a comparo between the 12Ss and the Speed Triple. They were nearly identical in ergonomics and wheelbase. When I sat on one, I felt right at home. Felt good. |

If you've not heard anything good or bad about Triumph, you're just not listening. Go to motorcycle.com and read their reviews and shoot outs involving Triumph, they always like them. Read what they say about other brands (especially Buell) to get an idea of their point of view and what they like. Or just listen to Danger Dave here who gets to ride more different motorcycles than anyone here. (Message edited by badlionsfan on July 12, 2011) |

There's some qualifiers needed about that character. My most widely read (and acclaimed) article starts with: ‘See if you can get a patch for the other eye as well’ the publisher cryptically suggested as I walked out of his office, charged with yet another Kiwi Rider Magazine Triumph test to write up. |
