Well it's time for the S2 to come home from sitting in Colorado all those years. I'm hoping to get it shipped in the next week or so. I did a search for "motorcycle shipping" and, of course, got that last 10 years with of classified ads with the word "shipping". I know there have been some threads with the name of a couple good companies. Any hints? There are also some cases of bodywork and old prototype parts so the shipper would need to haul the bike and a handful of boxes. . nothing heavy. |

On the BMW board, folks have nothing but good things to say about Allied. Apparently they have special pallets for motorcycles. http://www.motorcycleshippingsolutions.com/ I personally haven't shipped a bike (i've tended to do the fly and ride). Wayne |

I used http://www.haulbikes.com/ to get my tiger to NY from Utah. It took 2 months but got to me in one piece. Next time i ship a bike I'm going to try https://www.forwardair.com/prepaid/MCmainpage.jsp It was only a couple hundred dollars difference in price and about 6 weeks faster. |

Cool . . thanks for the information. Dan at NHRS is sending me the info on some shippers he's had good luck with as well. Aaron tells me the bike is in perfect condition and "ready to ride". I'm going to see how fast we can get it here and hopefully make an upcoming event on it! I can't wait for the reunion. Thanks again for all the help. Court |

Forward Air motorcycle containers can also haul a lot of additional gear inside... just need to tell them the weight. |

Forward Air will be fast. Those guys run across the PA turnpike every night like a cat with its tail on fire. Seriously tho, heard nothing but good about their motorcycle transport service. |

>>>that looks like it would be a nice ride to get there! It would . . . and you can be sure I've thought about it. Erik's kid was going to ride it last summer and then got a great job up in Wyoming . . he's got an S2 as well. But . . looking at the ride across Western Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey looks a bit dicey . . I've done that route a number of times . . not one of my favorites to use a couple days of vacation on. Looking like about $750 to ship. |

I have used uship.com to get shipping bids. This worked well for me for west coast bikes, but you do have to be careful in selecting a shipper. I would use them for bikes that are under 1000 miles away. I didn't get any decent bids on a cross county shipment. I just used http://keyboardmotorcycleshipping.com to ship my RS1200 from AR to CA and was VERY impressed. They use their own custom designed pallets to fasten the bikes to. Many of the big motorcycle shippers use a pallet, too, but require forklifts to move them around. Keyboard's pallet has castor wheels that can drop down so they can be hand moved in and out of the truck. I have a video of them unloading my RS which I can throw up on youtube if anyone is interested. They picked up the bike on a thursday, and delivered it the following tuesday, which was impressive! They were competitive in price for cross country shippers, but aren't if the bike is closer. *edit* here's the youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC-STlPGhEU -steve (Message edited by Murgatroid on July 07, 2011) |

If they're willing to crate it up, a less than truckload freight company might be cheaper. Let me see what I can find out on that. Stand by. |

Where is Jerry Haughton? How about FBRAT-II? Airfare to get him out there and then home is likely about the same as the freight, but we'd get so much more. |

If its cheaper, have it dropped in 21702 (not in the City, might cost less). Be an excuse for us to get together, and for me to ride up to NYC with you so you have company on the maiden voyage |

I used haulbikes.com to get from Los Angeles to Albany. No need to pallet or crate the bike. I can't remember the exact cost, but I want to say it was about $600 for door to door service - as in, from Asbjorn's driveway to mine. Those were upcharges from the base rate. The price they gave me on the phone was a good bit less than the calculator they have online. Court, I know you've had a number of offers for people to ride it back for you, so I guess just put me in line. I was really hoping to get to CO this summer and visit Frank (it's at his house, isn't it?). I'm being dead serious - I have friends/family in Topeka, Dayton and Pittsburgh so I woudln't have to spend anything on motels, even. $300 plane ticket, $150 in gas and you're done |

Allied Special Products is who I used to ship Piglet from Wisco to FMJ's shop. They will go door to door for you. The only thing I'd say that might have been a negative was it took almost 20 days, but that was over Christmas and New Years so they could probably do better for you. I might have to come up there to visit here once you get her home! |

I've used these guys a couple times https://www.a1autotransport.com/services/motorcycl e-shipping.php & would vouch for them. Especially good for longer distances within the U.S. in my experience Edit: 2011 ... n/m. (Message edited by Milfacts on May 12, 2016) |
