Sorry, not quite the view that you were used to but it was the best I could do at the time.

Boy did you have great roads around there though. We went up through Kernville and had a blast.

I think I rode more curves in 2 weeks than I have in the last 10 years (not saying much since Iowa doesn't have much).

I've been doing a ride report in an ST1300 forum but you have to log in to see the pics. I'll post some here.

We rode 6,200mi., hit 11 states, 6 national parks. I've now ridden in almost every state, OR & WA were 2 on my list to ride in. We camped in 108deg. @ Death Valley and 34deg. in Bend, OR. Walked in 20' of snow at Crater Lake.

I wanted to see the Thunder Dome but wasn't sure what road led up to it.

We tried to stay off the interstates as much as we could but still needed to make time to get it all in. Wolf Creek Pass was cool and Mesa Verde was really cool.

We had a bear encounter at our camp in Durango

Some of these dwellings were so hard to get to it was hard to believe.

crash.

The only weather issue we had was a sandstorm in northern AZ. The wind was blowing 40-50mph and during the gusts you could only see about 100'. I was worried about having an accident or what it was doing to my cycle. My windshield looks like it was pitted from the sandblast. One Harley couple that took up shelter at the same motel as us in Kayenta were blown off the road. Luckily they didn't

Mike,
I recognize that area... last time (only time) I saw it was the summer of 2004, the hillside was on fire and I'm thinking we had a few beers at the 'Dome watching it all...

Interested in a link and I'll sign up to see the pics!

Good to see your adventures, bud!

And if memory serves, from my first correspondence with Jerry over a trip-o-meter reset cable for an S-1, it's Wofford Heights in Lake Isabela.

I wanted to see the Thunder Dome but wasn't sure what road led up to it.

Bristlecone Drive in Wofford Heights, about five minutes from Kernville.

Sounds like you had a grand time, I'm only slightly jealous. That's a target-rich area for twisted riding, to be sure.

Crater Lake? I agree with No_Rice: You suck!

Alex, you're right: We had a few beers watching it all.

Then a few more.

And then a few more.

And the next thing y'know, we're looking at the butt-crack of dawn and it's time to prop our rusty eyeballs open with toothpicks and get you pointed in the general direction of Newfie's Land!

This coming from someone that has what, 20 motorcycles?

Jerry, I presume you've done Hwy 49 north of Yosmeite? Man was that ever a great road.

Mike, agree, 49 is a gem. Did you get to do the upper Kern River above Kernville up to the Western Divide Highway? The northern end of the WDH, in particular, as you approach Springville, is one of the twistiest roads I know of in the area. It used to be a regular part of the Oktoberfast itinerary when Denise and I were still out there.

Sounds like you had a great time. : )

Jerry,
Yes we did, what a road!

Here are a few more pics to whet your whistle until I get to the Yosemite and Crater Lake ones.

Death Valley NP

After looking at the big trees we headed up to King's Canyon NP. The river flow and views were pretty nice. The traffic on the rad wasn't bad so we could move along and enjoy the curves too.

Before I add any more pics I need to ask a favor.

On Friday I stopped by the courthouse to apply for a passport. When I opened my wallet to get out my drivers license it wasn't there. So if anyone is going to Yosemite or Crater Lake would you ask if I dropped it there?

another trip planned...?! i need to go get a passport soon, but i first have to find enough time to go sit at the dot all day to get my address changed to the correct one(i think its 2 or 3 houses back) so that i have a valid photo id that has the same addy as my mail... ugh. but hey its for a mostly free trip!

oh and did you see my post awhile ago on your fb? saw you say something to me about BTF in another thread...}

Tim,
Next year is our 35th and she wants to go to Norway (her grandfather was born there). Since she lets me go on all these trips I need to let her do something once in awhile.

I would be interested in BTF this year.

I stopped by to get another license, just had to show them my birth cert. (which I already had for the passport) and $3. I told her that Yosemite called and had my license, I just had to go pick it up. She believed me until I insisted that I had to pick it up.

Here are a couple of shots from Yosemite.

This was our campsite.

The view from the tunnel overlook.

Bridal Falls

The runoff from the falls.

Another shot of the runoff.
