If anyone has any interest I know of a '56 (I think) tiger. I knew the guy that bought it new in South America. He put it into storage, I think in '73. No rust in the tank and it turns over with compression, but they haven't even tried to start it. All original and it's all there. He even has a bunch of original paper work in Spanish from when it was registered in South America. It's a nice find for someone who lusts for such things. PM me if you have any interest. I'm sure I could get pictures. |

I'm an ex triumph owner as of this afternoon. Bought my '95 T'bird in '97 and basically rode it into the ground. It toured extensively on the Eastern seaboard of Aus and the North Island of NZ - and held some special memories. But it's cool as the new owner plans to restore it. Race Tech and emulator front end and there's an Ohlins shock hidden under there too. Scared the tenticles off many a Squid.

>>Dave, thoughts on the new Trophy coming out? << Personally - I owned a '98 Trophy 1200 for 3 or 4 years before I got my Uly. I thought I would keep it and use it for touring work. It was well hotted up. Ohlins all round, Daytona 1200 Cams & Pistons and custom Stainless exhaust. 120 at the back wheel. Custom paint too. All it did was gather dust so I sold it. It just seemed so dull and noisy behind all the plastic, compared with the Buell. Ultimately It depends on where you live. When I first arrived in NZ we used to ride everywhere at 140kph and the fairings were useful. Then the govt cracked down on speeding and now it's a real licence risk to go much faster than the limit for very long. If I lived in Europe, different story. But I'd rather a Speed Triple with Tiger ergos for current conditions. I'm moving to a sub-tropical climate shortly. Even less need for bodywork. Professionally - I'd say Triumph have been producing very good 'target' models. They made the new T'bird to take sales off Harley, the new Trophy is to pinch them off BMW. I'm betting they will make a good job of it and it will be a very competent unit. |
