I think I had a hand in hijacking the May 21 thread and duly apologize...

Daves - that depends on whether you ascribe to the "Zombieland" school of thought (Rule No. 2 - the double tap), or you go with the "Walking Dead" rationale that guns make too much noise and attract more zombies. That's where my son's request for the crossbow came in - he decided that firearms were not the way to go. I think both are good: Crossbow when they don't know you are there, and semi-auto rifle/shotgun for when there are lots around that already know you are there and are out to get their happy meal.

Suppressors would be a good compromise, me thinks. A nice suppressed .22 just rattles around in their head without making too much of a mess - can't get any of the nasty stuff on you lest you get the cooties, too.

Well, I would like to think that Woody knows what he's talking about when it comes to Zombies?
I could do some major damage with my bow! Faster and quieter than most crossbows on the market and quicker follow up shots.

Crossbows... nope

Like Dave says - they'll eat your brains after your first shot when you are trying to reload.

Get the proper tool for the proper job. Recurve or compound - you'll get more zombies than with a crossbow... you just gotta trust us on this.

You can also slay them troublesome vampires using wooden-shafted arrows to the heart.

I bought a copy of Zombie Survival Guide for my boys Christmas 2009 - Turns out, their school was using it as a reading assignment for one of their classes. Most of the advice works pretty well for most societal meltdowns - apparently, here in Utah we think about that stuff a little more than other places.

Anyone play Dead Rising? They got some pretty good weapons there, too.

"What is it with Americans and Zombies?" (since deleted)

George Romero basically invented the genre in 1968** - seen by many Americans at the drive-in (another American invention). But it's not just us - 28 Days Later is a British flick and I think some version has been made by almost every nationality that has a film industry. There are literally hundreds of zombie movies out there....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_zombie_films

** I need to revise that - I see a French movie from 1943 and another American film from 1941, so Romero was more credited with popularizing the genre.

I highly suggest "Wasting Away" as a fun guide to zombie life. laughed, thought I'd live.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm22DkHX6U4

Zombie attacks have the advantage of moral clarity. There are no regrets or qualms about mass firepower use. ( unless you have a close friend or relative in the zombie horde....}

Crossbows have the range, but bows have the rate of fire. The time needed in practice to have equal accuracy is what gives you the higher rate of fire, so don't assume you can pick up a manual weapon like a bow or battle axe and use it efficiently. It takes practice. ( just as you are unlikely to lead the pack on your first track day )

There do seem to be variances on damage needed to stop a zombie depending on the mythos you are using. Decapitation, followed by incineration, looks most certain. However, if you have a zombie horde, you won't have time to be thorough.....

zombies and stupidity, are both best left down range; the 300 yard mark is just fine.

suppressed 22's in subsonic all you hear is the cycling action. sweet.
yesterday i heard a 7.62 aac can on a 5.56 ar and couldn't believe how quiet! they say don't expect "hollywood" quiet out of them but it was far quieter than i expected. sounded like a 22 lr out of a bolt gun. very hard to determine where the shot came from and no flash seen.

mine should be in next month : )

I'm with wolf The Book World War Z was amazing. Max Brooks is a pretty good author Although with Mel as a father he should be creative.

The movie could be interesting but as always the book will be better.
I wonder witch stories they will choose as there is no way they can do even half of them. The best part of that book was that it was able to seamlessly deliver you from one story to the next to experience a gambit of different emotion in every story. I particularly liked the one of the blind samurai.

I liked that one as well. I am going to butcher this one but the interview with the handicapped kid who mimicked their sounds was chilling.

Not sure if she was autistic or handicapped or just generally screwed up from being among zombies. It's been a while since i read WWZ.

On a side note Survival guide was nowhere near as good.

I can't wait for the Walking Dead to start back up... and Breaking Bad

Is Breaking Bad having another season?

SKANK... SKANK... SKANK...

Oh, sorry. Zombie thread! Walking Dead is great to.

High capacity 9mm pistol. Get away from urban areas early and the noise won't be a problem. If you stay in an urban area you may as well hang with Hootowl.

The Walking Dead graphic novels are way darker than the AMC series (which isn't bad). I was hoping the Merle character would re-appear, too - one tough SOB. "the only thing that can kill Merle is Merle"...

My first choice would be: Suppressed .45 with subsonic non-jacketed hollow points - "pop - sploot, pop - sploot" (I'm good to go already: H-K Tac. .45 with AWC Nexus II - holster is a problem, though - VEPR II for clearing the grocery store, and the modded Win 1300 for the nasty stuff).

My preferred weapon would be a flame thrower to be honest. Preferably one mounted to a tank which would be awesome for zombie killing fun.

Hence the tank.

Plus who doesn't like a flaming zombie.

Save the fuel to move the tank. Flaming zombies just set things on fire complicating the cataclysm.
