Sure wish I could "clock in" as well as you do... A good buddy once had an old Yammie 750 triple, happened to have a Kerker header on it- very few bikes I've heard in my life sounded as good as it did. I could conceivably acquire it again after it being gone for many years... | ||

:-) I gotta test 'em. Due dilligence to scrape the pegs and all. I was so glad it didn't have the fly screen. Matters of taste, but for me Speed Triples are like the modern Bobber, They are enhanced by what you remove from them - or make lighter/improve. Minimalism is said to remove everything - and then take something else away. I wouldn't add anything. Just subtract. I'd lose the bodywork and shrouds, fit a 2-1 stumpy exhaust, remove the tail section, and tart up the switchgear. Job done. Then I'd sleep with it. I like the headlights just fine too. They were poooped on a lot online. | ||

I dig the new head lights. The old big googley things were getting...old. Looks pretty sharp, frame rails with passenger pegs seem a bit busier than previous years. On the whole I think the Speed Triple just keeps improving with age. I'd like to have one, or at least ride one some day. They were on my short list when I decided on Buell (Monster, Speed Triple, and S1 or M2). Thanks for keeping us in the loop. | ||

how does it compare to the last models? i had an 07 and loved it biggest down side was it was in the shop for 86 consecutive days was at home for a week then back to the shop for an ungodly amount of time. | ||

Compare - evolution not revolution. It's just a bit nicer all over. Specific reliability I can't really comment on first hand. Generally well regarded and the local RAT boys don't seem to have any major gripes other than general parts availability out here on the rim. | ||

If it's any other consolation - I slipped and fell down the embankment I was climbing down to take that portrait photo and got covered in mud. Looked like I'd binned the bike on the way home. | ||

Where's the swing arm on the right side? Is this one-sided thingy unique, or do other manufacturers do the same? Doesn't Erik Buell own a patent on something like this, or is that specific to the front wheel? | ||

DD. Don't you mean 3-1 stubby exhaust? I like the s3 a lot and have since the first new version in the 90s. Looks like you are putting it through a proper test. Milt. See most 90s era Ducatis and BMWs, Honda Hawk and VFR750 RC30. MV Agusta and Moto Guzzi to name a few. Nobody owns the single sided swingarm. | ||

Headers look like they get toasty behind the coolers. I like blued steel. Thanks for sharing the mud story, now I don't hate you. I rode in a severe thunderstorm this morning. Rain gear worked very well, and I had a great time. Storm coming from the left. Sun rising in the east. Me heading North. Thunderstorm under me and lightning above. Temp. in the 60s. I thought for a few minutes about riding till the tank went dry. Riding......it just boils down to riding. I really needed the break. | ||

Yeah, i also wonder the comparison to say a Lightning Long, with a big guy. Being 6'3" 240lbs i always looked like a monkey F'n a football.. I think the wheelbases are about the same. | ||

had they had the scrambler when I bought the sporty, I probably would have ended there.... and I dont know that I would have made it to Buell for running a bike off road as it does it well.... I do love that Scrambler and even the Ural ST served Scrambled and in weee bit o weakness, the Enfield... Knobbies all the way around ! | ||

I test rode one a couple weeks ago at a Triumph demo day. Seem like a great bike! The reach from the seat to the bars is shortened up from the previous model. Feels much more like my lightning. The stock seat felt great for the short 25 minute ride too. That is a weak spot to me on a lot of bikes. DD how was the seat after some serious seat time? Or were you taking too many breaks to wallow in the mud?  | ||

Seat was fine. That tech has come a long way. I've only tested one large capacity bike that had a poor saddle in the last 5 years. | ||

The dealer where I bought my Bonnie is hosting the Triumph demo truck next weekend. Might have to go give one a spin if it ever quits raining. |
