My tinfoil hat / spidey sense says "WE" and/or the Afghan President knew about this before it happened. Just not buying that this was a surprise. Another way to convince people there is need for a large and continuing presence there. All of our gadgets, human intel, etc; failed to discover a 1000ft+ tunnel dug over five months? Nobody on "our" side knew or heard anything? BS.

It couldn't have been difficult actually, the drug cartels in Mexico have been tunneling under our border for years.

Seems to me that fewer prisoners will be taken in the future. Its hard to escape from death.

I also wonder how many will go back to fighting as opposed to just going home and hanging up the AK.

That's what happens when they show the great escape on movie night.

Do you really believe we don't know about those tunnels? Or can't do anything about them? We have had satellites that can detect underground tunnels for decades. We broadcasted this fact to the Russians via a National Geographic article years ago on underground tunnels and rivers as a way to show we know where their ICBMs are. The "war on drugs" could have ended decades ago.

Corruption is why drugs continue to pour into this country. Corruption is why Meth is such a huge problem. You have those on the take. And you have agencies like the DEA and others that could not justify their budget should the war ever be "won".

Read 1984. His premise states that the purpose of any government (or agency), is not to serve the people, but to perpetuate itself. I'm tending to agree more and more.

The purpose of the Afghani conflict is no longer about protecting Americans and America, but about protecting private interest, distracting us from whats going on here at home, and perpetuating itself.

I've hung out and destroyed a few tunnels like the one mentioned recently over "yonder". They exist, and they build new ones all the time.

Anyone ever figure out who was in control of the prison at the time of the break? Hmmm.

That is the better question - though the tunnel should never have happened as well, especially knowing that they are tunnel experts.

Whisperstealth, I'd like to know what your idea of "private interest" in Afghanistan offers of value to the USA. I spent a good bit of time there, seen a vast many places there. There wasn't much there and may never be much there except acres and acres of poppy fields and some gems.

I'm not attacking you, I'd just like to see what type of interest you really believe we are there to protect. As far as OEF still being a threat. It is.
