So, I was out of cell range most of the weekend up at Deal's Gap, and the phone was off for the majority of the time. When I stopped in Asheville on the way home, I checked my voicemail. There was a message from a Jenny somebody with a 919 area code. Instead of hitting save I just hung up the phone and I lost the message. It could have been from any number of potential employers I sent an application to... and I called AT&T and they cannot retrieve the number because the phone was off when I recieved the call. SOOOOOOO, today, I have to call every employer that I sent info to within the 919 area code and ask if they have a Jenny that left a message. I am so dissapointed in myself right now! IIRC, if you do not "save" or "delete" the message, it should still be in there, basically as if you haven't listened to it. Check carefully - U nevr no. |

919, as you probably know, is Cary/Durham/Ralieigh NC... Maybe Froggy knows how to retrieve the info... Surely there's a way- patience, Grasshopper... Maybe there's a "Jenny" ringtone too...

Reindog... give me some credit... I accessed the phone record through AT&T on-line already... they, unfortunately, do not record incoming calls that go straight to voicemail when the phone is turned off... Where has Froggy been hiding anyhow, I though we were still engaged to be married at next Buelltoberfest ??? |

Used to be able to access deleted voice records through the account management access number, I think. Another reason I dig the iPhone. All messages load and store on the phone. |

No disrespect intended. I am on Verizon and I have access to all missed calls. |

There is. Everything is stored on the servers at the phone company. By everything, I mean EVERYTHING. Nothing I can easily access these days, but if you happen to claim you are a cop or have a court order, you might be able to get a bit more info out of them than if you tell them who you really are. Just saying, not that I would do that or risk getting arrested or anything. |

Do you know anyone at AT&T in the IT Department Froggers ? Impersonating a cop is illegal. Shame on you! |

Yeah, I would also think that it should still be there just not listed as a "new" message anymore, and now is listed as a "checked" message or something of the sort. Stupid for the system to just abort messages like that, what if you were disconnected, it would just erase your message, that's crap. .......either way....that suck. |

Yeah, it has never deleted a message like that before... What it usually does is if you hang up after you listen to the message and before you press a button to save or delete the message it remains a new message, but still available to be listened to... it is making me a little crazy at this point !!! |

Char, you probably have a history of calls made before your trip stored on your phone, with time duration and dates- take a look at them and a calendar at the same time, maybe that will jar your memory... |

Last time I impersonated a cop was to stop a drunk driver traveling North in southbound lanes in a 55 mph zone. Like who is he going to tell? Hey, I just got a message that I'm approved for a wire transfer. What the....? Char, I know you have probably looked cause you aren't that blond, but look in the logs on your phone. |

google voice FTW. All of my voicemails are transcribed and emailed and texted to me, I have the transcription and actual audio in my email inbox, and I never need to delete them. |

+1 Google Voice It's a work in progress but it's VERY handy. I get a transcript of my voicemails emailed and sent to me via text message. Verizon has a service similar to it that works well also. The difference is that you must pay for that one. Google Voice is free. |

I will check into that... sometimes cell phones can be so irritating... especially since the coverage for AT&T is so lame ! |

I can't help but think Google is secretly stashing all this data that come through their system for a rainy day. They didn't bother to give me a heads up when they started logging every website I've ever been to while I was signed in to Gmail. But there it sat, once I knew where to dig it up. They record your browsing history, they know where EVERYTHING is via their Maps (complete with pictures of your front door), and with Google voice they're probably tucking away transcriptions of your calls. If I was a little more paranoid, I might think Google had plans for world domination. ~SM |

Sword In all honesty every email every text every call you have made in the last 15 years is stored some where by someone no mater what service you have. Retrieving it is a different story but rest assured there is a person out there with the know-how. Its just the nature of life at this point in history. |
