jerry;

thanks for sharing, great truck, great bike, and greater lady!!

the more i get used to it, the more i think i'll not stripe it.

wouldn't go with white or black stripes in any case, too many of each of those.

i remember a girl in high school had an original 69? z28 that was blue with gold stripes, was killer!!

i do plan on these wheels though;

SLeeZ, was rooting around in my archives the other day and found this pic of the White Lightning shown in your profile:

How's the Thong treating you these days? Still got the other thong we gave you that day? ; )

So getting back to the Camaro....I would like to announce that I'm throwing my hat into the ring for Girlfriend of the Year and here's why:
Midway through my shift I get handed the phone.
Me: "Hello?"
Sleez: "Are you going to kill me?"
Me: "Am I going to have to?"
Sleez: "Would you be mad if I traded your car in and brought home a Camaro?"
We had briefly discussed this previously, but I thought we decided we didn't need it.
Me, thinking in the back of my head that it was highly unlikely he'd go through with it, "I suppose it's all right."
Well, obviously I underestimated him. No I'm not mad and yes I do love the new car, but how many of your girlfriends/wives would let you trade in their cars at the drop of a hat?

Jerry, I'm pretty sure Sleez has shown me those pictures before...

SLeeZ, since you haven't posted-up any more pix of Lady SLeeZ's Camaro (and I probably shouldn't post-up the flip side of D's thong pic above...), I'm forced to offer up another shot of our new Limo Truck:

This was during a two-day test drive before we actually pulled the trigger on the deal (note the window sticker on the passenger window). Really impressed overall with the rig, including the engine performance and exhaust note - really snarls when you're on the boil.

So OK then, how 'bout some more pix (and driving impressions) of Gloriann's new car?? : )

That's a GREAT looking pickup . . . and I'm looking at the moment. I couldn't get myself to buy a GM after the feds got involved but it's still a good looking truck.

The new F-150, with arguably the best motor ever put in a truck, has caught my eye.

I still have dreams of an American manufacturer someday putting real headlights on a pickup. Ford has finally got around to putting H.I.D. lights as options on the SHO and Mustang . . so I'm hopeful.

Plain white. . . . strictly persona; opinion . . always looks awesome.

I'm with Court on the "plain white" thing--doesn't get as hot in the summer, doesn't show scratches, dents and dust (I live a mile and a half down a gravel road) and it's about as close to invisible as you can get.

Like the guy who sold me my current Suburban (#4, white, of course) said: "You can park a white truck in front of any titty bar in town and not have to worry about your wife noticing it."

By the way, Jerry--what kind of mileage does she get? (I mean the truck, not the lovely and obviously talented Mrs. Haughton)

RT, from Chev's website:

The available Vortec 5.3L V8 offers an impressive combination of 315 horsepower and 335 lb.-ft. of torque and an EPA estimated 21 MPG highway, 15 city...

We've got about 7k on the truck now, and are probably averaging 18+, depending on what kinda mood my right foot is in. I'm a sucker for white, for all the obvious reasons, plus I dig the clean, sano look.

PS: Mrs. Haughton thanks you. : D

court- are you talkin about the ECOboost in the 11' F-150 as the best engine ever put in a truck? Cause I am VERY curious as to opinions on it, i have VERY high hopes for Ford and its new truck engines from the 3.7-6.7 powerstroke....can you tell im a Ford man? lol

Sleez- very nice camaro!! love the color!

Jerry- nice truck!

and to say the least I COMPLETELY agree about the White Vehicles! hence why i switched my 08' 1125r from Black to White....plus it makes it faster ; )

>>>>court- are you talkin about the ECOboost in the 11' F-150 as the best engine ever put in a truck?

That's the one. One of our very own Badwebbers, a consulting engineer, was retained to do the NVH work for Ford on this motor. His reports are that the thing is literally amazing.

For a sense of what it's done check out what Ford did to a random, pulled off the line, motor HERE. Basically pulled it off the line . . did dyno runs, ran it wide open for 24 hours, stuck it in a truck, off to the Pacific NW to haul timber, back to Talladega Superspeedway where it had two cars loaded on a trailer, ran at full throttle on a race track for 24 hours, then drove to Baja. . motor put in a Baja racer, placed in the race, back in the truck and driven to the Detroit auto show to be torn down and inspected before a live crowd,

The amazing part are the specs . . . anytime a 4-wheel drive pickup gets 21MPG, has 365HP and is capable of smoky burnouts . . I'm interested.

I used to haul my white Buell Thunderbolt and S1 behind a white Ford SHO and later was able to snag one of the 50 F-250 with the 5.4 in 1997-1/2 . . . and have always gotten them in white as well.

The thing that appeals most to me about the white pickups is how neat and clean they look. I had to make arrangements on my last one to have it built with the plastic lettering left off the side. It's personal preference but the plainer the better . . . which I learned from Steve Bell when we went to watch his W30 4-4-2 being built and he physically snatched the W30 emblems to keep them from going on the car.

That GM pickup is one of the better looking I've seen and I REALLY like that it has the black mirror caps rather than the chrome or body color. Ford, by the time you get into the Lariat and upscale part of their model line tries to do some stupid shit with chrome and color . . if I order, it'll have to have the XLT black mirrors put on it.

The truck looks even better with D standing there!

; )

It is just amazing how far Ford has pushed the technology for this Ecoboost engine. For those of us who grew up being taught that 1 HP (gross) per cubic inch was a BIG DEAL for a high performance automobile, it's astounding to see a production TRUCK engine reliably produce over 1.7 HP (net) per cubic inch on regular gasoline.

Now, if they'd just put a ~200 HP / 300 ft-lb torque 4-cylinder version in an extended cab Ranger, I'd be a happy man.

It's also cool (pun intended) what has happened with lubricants . . . imagine telling someone, even 20 years ago, that you'd tortured a motor . . . and tore it down at 161,000 miles with no measurable wear.

Court, I've studied-up some on the EcoBoost V6. Geez, those are staggering numbers for a six-cylinder engine.

We strongly considered a Ford F-150, but GM wanted our business just a teeny bit more ($5505 in year-end incentives, as but one example), and our own JB2 - himself a staunch Ford man - gives the current Silverado platform very high marks. Coming from a lifelong gearhead like him, and a guy who works on this stuff professionally Monday through Friday 50 weeks a year, well, his endorsement carried a lot of weight when we were doing our due diligence.

The truck looks even better with D standing there!

That's an accurate statement. : )

court- oh trust me i've been following those torture test videos since they came to existence! if i had the money (LOL I wish) to get a new F150 the ECOboost would be the engine of my choice, its nothing short of amazing....imagine telling someone 10years ago that there'd be a 3.5L V6 as the top engine in an f150 and can town more than 10k pounds conventional! I cant wait to see whats next!!

Jerry- No prob!

As a little evidence of my Forditude (pun intended as well) after i finish my mechanical engineering undergrad at UA, my dream is to work for Ford, or Erik Buell Racing ...seriously! only got about 3 years : )

I just bought a F-150 XL Super Cab 4X4 with the base 3.7L motor. No chrome, no frills, hose out interior. So far I love it. The 3.7 has more than enough power for what I need the truck for -hauling the boat twice a year, firewood, and the occasional quad or bike. So far around town I am averaging 17+MPG which is 3MPG better out of the gate than my old Isuzu. Ford earned my business and I am happy to own one. When the wife's TDI VW craps out in another 170K miles, she plans on getting a Focus.

I love that motor and will have one (or something similar in my next truck)...I just wish they'd mate it to a manual transmission. None of the "big three" make a full sized truck with a manual transmission truck w/o getting into the 3/4 ton sized trucks.

I think I did something stupid yesterday . . . . we'll see.

I looked . . REALLY seriously at buying a new Ford. Then I asked myself "what would a 2011 do that the 2006 won't". The answer was nothing. A paid for car is endearing, the trucks sole drawback is the 13MPG, the fact that I drive 100-200 a day between projects and gas heading to between $5.00 and $6.00 as we get on par with the rest of the world.

I found a new Ford Fiesta with the SFE (Super Fuel Economy) package that has the Sync system, the works and that I can use my Ford Fleet discount to seize for under $14K. I confess, as I was just ready to pop for the Porsche Cayenne, that there is something damned attractive about a vehicle you can pay cash for rather than a $1,200 a month lease.

I've found one thing on the pickup . . . and this is not unlike motorcycles . . . that taking really good care of one adds nearly nothing to the resale. I bought the current white F150 Supercab 4 years and 11 months ago. The day I bought it I drove it home, changed the oil to Mobil 1 and have changed it every 5,000. Once a year ALL the fluids (brake, power steering, transmission, differential) come out and get replaced (by the way . .it's almost impossible to get a dealer to actually take the pan off a transmission and change the filter . . they keep telling me it's just as good to suck the fluid out . . intuitively I can't imagine that gets the crud out) with fresh fluid.

At 75,000 miles it just got it's 3rd set of complete rotors, pads, plugs and so forth for the tune of $2,435. It runs perfectly.

But . . . you go to trade it in and boom . . . you get the same as the guy who has never changed the oil.

So . . right now . . . since I know what will happen the minute I don't OWN a pickup . . . I'm looking at something in the 35-40mpg range as a daily drive/beater and keeping the truck for when I need to haul bikes, lumber or so forth.

The good news is that there are LOTS of good stuff out there at the moment. I bought that 2010 Focus as an interim for the wife''s car last year and we've driven it to East Troy and Kansas several times averaging just shy of 38mpg, it runs like a scaled dog and the car cost less than the options on the last MB convertible she had.

I'm getting cheap in my old age.

: )
