NATO insisted on "firm regional support" before they would commit to enforcing a no-fly zone. That shows that European discussions were already underway and that's what prompted the League's request.

The League's request was to the UN Security Council (not to the US or NATO).

The Security Council's no-fly resolution was put forth by France, UK, and Lebanon.

So let's see if I have this straight...

Sarkozy asked the Arab League for help/permission/??? to go to the UN for a no fly zone. So that's how NATO (with a US commander) winds up holding the ball. And this is to payback a favor from the Iraq war.

Honestly that makes more sense than what I've heard officially.

Sifo,

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

That makes more sense than the administration's various comments too, don't you think?

Not that I have a firm opinion on the war in/on Libya.

As Alice put it,

"It seems very pretty," she said when she had finished it, "but it's rather hard to understand!" (You see she didn't like to confess even to herself, that she couldn't make it out at all.) "Somehow it seems to fill my head with ideas--only I don't exactly know what they are! However, somebody killed something: that's clear, at any rate---"

Welcome to East Libya or is it South Vietnam? It is impossible to arm the Queda-Bollahians without sending "advisors".

Well at least there will be some cool war movies about Libyastan in about ten years. Justin Bieber will be 28-ish then and can play a full bird Colonel in "Full Metal Jackoff".

The Liberal zoids are strangely silent since O-bomb-Ahhh became Bush the W.

I have been watching this from the start(2009) I dont pay any attention to the late news preditions these are just news people selling a story. They dont realy know the mid-east. The arabs have been making a living trading while our ancistors were still hunting dinacours (they have the pacience of a oyster) the system was pretty well keep in check till the election. forma president Bush was in close touch with Israel (they have the best intelegents in that part of the world. Mubrak should not have been removed he had keep the musmin in check. When he was over thrown the brother hood got the momenton they needed to start the trouble in the whole mid-east Pandora is now out of the box. the decisions coming out of Washington now is eather the most stupid or criminal. you be the judge,

I can criticize the pace, actions, and decisions, but at this point I'm just hoping for minimal disaster.

I'm not privy to the upper level goings on. Obama seems to me to be playing a political game with who's in charge, and public pronouncements from various world leaders conflict in critical details.

It would be hard to tell if the players are incompetent, blindly idealistic, or genius level strategizers fooling us all. Have to wait and see.

Gaddafi, at least, has understandable motivations. His Butt.

Our Concerns seem to be:

Who will come out as leaders in the various revolutions throughout the middle east, and what will that bring our little planet?

What seems(1) to have started as an idealistic revolt against a combination of old dictators and high food prices(2) seems to have been taken over by jihadi types. double plus ungood.

[ (1) seems is based on very incomplete information. (2)the move to making food crops into fuel is directly responsible ]

Opinions from others.

There has certainly been a concerted effort to bring about a new caliphate.

"“German reunification: I view this in much the same way I view a possible Dean Martin - Jerry Lewis reconciliation: I never really enjoyed their work, and I'm not sure I need to see any of their new stuff”"

Dennis Miller.

some people just know how to say it.

Will Tunisia be the new Sarajevo? (the site of the assassination that sparked World War I)
