Bummer. The losing of another motorcycle friendly campground is indeed sad news.

We on the west coast have felt the loss of the Songdog Ranch Campground which was run by Jim Reveley (of RevPak motorcycle luggage fame) and family since the mid 80's. It got closed down by Santa Barbara County because of land use restrictions though.

The wife and I used to go the Songdog Rallies held two or three times a year, to camp out, have a beer or two with our more adventurous riding friends, and partake in their scrumptious tri-tip BBQ dinners. In the evenings, they would bring out a local band to serenade us campers under the star-lit sky. Good times indeed. Yeah, we sure miss that place too.: (

I was at the songdog ranch in the mid eighties. There was a retired pilot that lived further up the canyon. He would get in his stunt bi-plane and put on a show for the campers. It was just to cool. Gonna miss both those places.

I still say we protest. This is just so sad... and I've only been there twice! My dad and his fiance planned to get married there at this year's Buelltoberfest.... such a bummer : (

Camped at T.W.O. a few years ago. My first time in Suches and first time at a motorcycle related event. That was the moment I stopped being a wife pissed off at her husband for buying a Buell on an equity loan to a wife who began to dig what it's all about.

It sucks that TWO has to go down. I really enjoyed it there on my many visits. Lots of good memories of meeting many of you there. So many good rides and stories of same. Campfires? Who doesn't love a good campfire? I met many of you all around them.

I think the first BadWeB member I met there was Wolfridgerider in our mud soaked camping gear, he was the only on with the for site to put his name on his bike to introduce himself. Damned if he and I don't still like each other.

As much as it pains me to say it here in this thread, I mean no offense, but the Lodge Copperhead has been more than accommodating and has a very open, very large porch, with a bar and what not with camping, rooms, and cabins. We did our first April Buell's day to some really foul weather and had I think eleven people turn out. There is no reason that meeting up with fellow Bueller's cannot continue in the area. These people are great hosts and really enjoy having us. I have been there a few times now and do recommend it.

T.W.O. was the destination of my first real motorcycle trip. That place was awesome, it sucks big time that its closing down. Wont be the same without it.

Jim and Robin had a great thing going at Songdog. If you were not comfortable riding your bike up the long dirt road to the camp site, Robin would jump on the bike and ride it up for you. Very funny to watch. And being on the mesa and watching the biplane was cool too. Plus the good food!!

Vern, thanks for sayin. If this is indeed the end of TWO, let's support the good peeps remaining in the area like Copperhead.

I think it's tragic to lose such a place- I had the pleasure of sharing the lodge rooms with Jeff, Mark, and Char this past Buelltoberfest.

Not to mention my scientific "Eureka!!" moment with Bengay. Thanks again, Vern.

And the Q&A time with Flick a few years ago.

AND- the GREAT grub that GT and Britt's kitchen fed me.

AND...

Kinda feel like I should go camp there one more time.

Trust me, we know all the motorcycle friendly places to go.
There are plenty, that's not the point.
If y'all were from around here you'd understand more.
First Turner's Corner closed, open, closed.
Dale's got scooted out from under him, it's still open (for sale as well) but it ain't Dale's, it's just another gas station, "Not Dale's".
Copperhead, Rider's Hill, are the new destinations.
Great people, great destinations.
But losing T.W.O is more like knowing your favorite Aunt and Uncle are losing their house, and are getting laid off to boot.
I'm gonna miss being treated like family.
I'm headed over here in a little bit, and tomorrow also, probably whenever I can.
They close the 15th so we'll have the last Not March Badness on the 11th until.
Same as always, everyone welcome, roll your own, and let's do it one more time.

An all too common occurrence these days. Less money coming in for folks means less business. Plus the whole land owner thing.
No. Not getting political. Just saying this economy has a snowballing effect. Tell 'em to pick up some Powerball tickets. Some one has to win. Why not them?

what kind of money is the land owner asking?
Is it a large piece of land or will they divide it?

If they would divide it there wouldn't be any problems.
As it stands, they won't even do a month by month until the land sells.
They're asking 1.4 million I believe.

I'm thinkin Ann may go too, so we'll find out together.

Sad news. I've camped extensively at/on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Camping space is often at a premium there during peak months. Unfortunately I never did get to enjoy the legendary hospitality at T.W.O.

I'm curious about something after reading their home page where they state the following:

"While many campgrounds frown on (and ban) all types of two wheeled vehicles"

Is that really true? "Many"? Really? I've yet to run into such a situation, and I've moto camped all over the country more times than I can count, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, South Dakota, Tennesee, N. Carolina, W. Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, California.

Anyone here ever look to moto-camp and be turned away because of being on a motorcycle? Seems like it would have to be a private campground. Certainly that kind of blatant anti-moto prejudice would be illegal for taxpayer supported facilities. I've never seen it.

Though, come to think of it, I've never moto-camped at a private facility, always national parks, national forests, or state or local parks, or on a friend's property.

Sorry to see them go. The same thing happened to Oak Hill Raceway. Family took over control of the land from grandma (grandpa built the track) and decided to cash in, lots of coal under the track. A real shame. No more convenient track outings for me. : ( The really frustrating part is that when grandma was still in charge, the coal concern offered to build a brand new facility free of charge. She was so sentimental about the original track though that she wouldn't go for it.

While their name implies "motorcycles only", I think T.W.O., like Copperhead Lodge, does a lot of restaurant business with the local non-motorcyclists. Suches is pretty much in the middle of the boonies, and the next closest place to eat is ~20 miles away down some seriously twisty mountain roads.

TWO was allways happy to have 4 wheel trade. They just wouldn't let you park a 4 wheel vehicle on the lodge grounds unless you were hauling a bike to ride. You could park your car on the side of the road and enjoy the food in the lodge.

David,GT has not been open since sometime in December.Joe A. road by last Sunday and there were people in the parking lot but they were closed.
I'll ride up tomorrow and check it out but I'll probably head back down to Riders Hill for lunch if GT's not open.

Blake, back in the 70's and 80's up that way, motorcycling was mired in the image of the Outlaws.
The Outlaws did a lot of damage to the motorcycling image, and what comes to mind first to the locals when they hear of a motorcycle event.
Those sediments are long lived, and die hard.
Before T.W.O I don't know of a private motorcycle resort anywhere, it was the first I had ever visited.
The novelty brought me, the hospitality brought me back.
Yeah, I forgot about it being the off season for them, March Badness used to kick the season off : (

So does that mean the Buell-toberfest is off for good or are you guys gonna try and come up with a different place to hold it?

I know it won't be the same not having it at T.W.O. but didn't know if you guys were going to give up Buell-toberfest as well.

Glitch, thanks for the details. I'll try to take time off for the weekend of the 11th- mebbe Vern and some other good buddies can come too.

I just got an e-mail from a friend; apparently TWO is going to have a massive yard sale prior to closing and EVERYTHING is going. GT does say he'd like to give the T-shirts back to the people that donated them. I know there's at least one Buell shirt autographed by Erik himself there on the wall.

Man, this sucks worse all the time...

Just letting list mates know, that everything will go, .Including the
antiques, real wagon wheel lights over the tables...well, just about
everything. The signed T-shirts on the walls and ceilings, we would like
to give back to the people who donated them. Kitchen supplies, are all
for sale also.

This is not an easy email to write, as I also, have so many fond, and
cherished memories from T.W.O.

Ride Safe,
