Twenty or more years ago,Dad told me 90 was enough. Not many can be active/independent/happy/healthy/retired for nearly 30 years. He ran it out to 92 years and Friday, after dinner....decided "that" was enough.Go easy Father, go easy. With love from us all that will continue on with out you.

That's amazing and he sounds like an amazing person with an incredible view of life.

My condolences to you and your family and my thanks for sharing that. Frankly, as difficult as it is, that's the very type of thing that makes us realize how lucky we are to be living life rather than just passing through.

Great photo, great dad...

Somewhere in Nashville, an elderly woman who once was my dad's GF has a pic or 2 of him on an old Indian- story goes that he used to race Indians and old HD...

Got more pics? What color was that old bike?

My condolences for your loss- and congrats to Popa Zip for such a well lived life!

I'll have some great old motorcycle pictures when I can get a scanner to work.B&W pics and I only imagine the bikes were all black(?)
He did not waste life.
Let me ramble.
Farm raised with values attained with the great depression.
He rode hard tail Harley's to California and Florida. Last bike was an Indian four cylinder that he rode from the Navy in Cali, back to Iowa. Old boys STILL talk of those bikes and how they were always spotless. He never rode a bike again since the late 40's.Was just simply too busy taking over the farm from gramps and keeping it a showcase, picture perfect farm.
Skilled at woodworking,he remodelled the entire farm home and made many wood projects, completed to perfection. Boating, swimming, water skiing, trick skiing and giving skiing lessons was his enjoyment from the 60's through all but the last few years of his retirement. He was competitive in chainsawing contests for many years as well as competing in corn picking by hand contests.Photography, mushroom hunting and growing watermelons and flowers/trees was another passion. At age 63(!),he started competition in the target shooting sports.Rifle, pistol and black powder. He was very good at it. I think he had nearly every piece of classic music albums ever composed thru the 40's to the 60's........trunks full of that and photo albums. He built a side walk snow blower in the 30's with a Maytag engine for power and a kick ass tractor mounted blower in the 70's. Perfectionist without being too anal, stubborn, patient, inventive and the will power to make things happen. He always gave me free range with no questions as he knew that I knew what a belt slapping off his belt loops meant. He was always up to building something cool, whether a model or cementing rocks together around a tile outlet. He built a couple of tube radios in the 30's powered by a home made wind generator.I have the radio and the propeller.....fantastic primitive folk art.

He loved airplanes. One of several he built from peach crates.
I am so lucky to be his son. Seems like only yesterday,I was reaching up to hang on to his extended index finger as we walked around the local town on Saturday mornings, doing errands. He had such large strides to my little steps to keep up...........:-) :-)

Godspeed. 92 is plenty of time to lead and inspire, and it sounds like that's exactly what he did. Celebrate the knowledge that he left you with.
