Is the ebay site having problems?
It seems like I can't add things to my watch list and the pages do not layout correctly when I go to view items. I have a java script error message.

Running XP and IE 7?

I must have posted too many lier rants...and now they are getting back at me...

I updated my Java and it still does not help. When I search in the ebay (not motors) the lines of items that come up for the search ar all overlayed on one line, maybe 3 lines in one, then there is a big blank and a couple of rows at the bottom that look normal. The my ebay page is still screwed up and I can not navigate the lists, add items to watch list, and the leave feedback buttons do not work.

Thanks

Bill Gates/Microsoft is the problem!
I've had ZERO issues for over a year now with Ubuntu OS. Takes a bit to get used to it.......but I will never go back to Microsoft. I have 20 to 40 windows open most all the time..instead of bookmarking stuff.Save on shut down and they all come back up on start up...don't have to click icons or bookmarks for every site or page. Never crashes, never freezes and never lost anything. 4 new PC's since 1995 with Microsoft and every one of them died.......one got sick before it was an hour online. Current PC is a used $150.00,dual core Gateway with flat screen.Dumped the MS and loaded the Ubuntu.......probably a month of a difficult learning curve to be very comfortable with it all......and still finding cool stuff it will do. Never have been happier with a PC!

Swampy, it sounds like your Javascript is disabled. Follow these steps

quote:

Enabling Java and JavaScript
1
Launch Internet Explorer. Click "Tools" at the top of the window, then click "Internet Options."

2
Find "Programs" at the top of the screen. Click the tab, then click the button labeled "Manage add-ons."

3
Click each add-on that shows "Sun Microsystems, Inc." as the publisher, then click the "Enable" radio button at the bottom of the screen. Click "OK" when you are finished. Java is now enabled. This will bring you back to the Internet Options window.

4
Find "Security" at the top of the screen. Click the tab, then click "Internet." Click the "Custom Level" button at the bottom of the window.

5
Scroll down to "Scripting of Java applets," and click the radio button labeled "Enable." JavaScript is now enabled. Click "OK" twice to save your changes.

Right... Because I just checked my XP virtual machine running IE7, I have no issues with ebay. He has a Javascript issue, which would cause display issues regardless of browser or OS. I have zero software issues with my Windows 7/2008R2 machines, I can hibernate too for saving my state without issue, no crashes, freezes. Best part is, everything I plug in works, you cannot say that about Ubuntu. I know, I run it on my laptop. : )

Yah but..yah but.... Froggy,I have practically zero computer savvy. All self taught. I don't even know what javascript is. Yeah,my Dell printer doesn't work with Ubuntu,so a half assed working (off line/stand alone)MS computer is hooked up to it to print envelopes and letters.Saved a ton on "Dell rape" ink and paper with it not working and printing every stupid thing that comes along . Some H P's are compatible, just no need to pull the trigger on one.

Most of my knowledge is self taught too, but then again I've been doing it since I was 3 years old. Windows 7 is fantastic, it fixes all the flaws of XP, and in my opinion is the only OS worth running. Easier to use than MacOS, stability of Linux, and the good old compatibility of Windows.

Ubuntu has made great strides over the years, but Linux as a whole needs better hardware support from the OEMs to make it take off. I got it working on my laptop without much fuss, it installed faster and was more compatible with the hardware than XP was, but still failed to install proper video drivers and wireless drivers. Win7 on this laptop picked everything up and installed all the correct drivers right on the first attempt.

Hopefully in the future driver support will improve, then people will write good software for it to make switching off Microsoft software a possibility. Open-Office does a terrible job regarding compatibility with MS Office, and FireFox does not work for many web based applications.

I went out and got a Java update. I checked the add-ons and all the Java Sun Microsystems were already enabled. I changed the security for Jave from strict to medium and the Java scripting was already enabled.

I still can not leave feedback on ebay.

Thanks for your imput, I do really appreciate it!

I had IE 8 loaded at one time but the IT knobs(please take no offense) threatend me with my job if I installed anymore "un-approved" programs again.

So I could probably fix it myself easily BUT I am a marked man. Funny, every couple of years we go from Word, to Adobe, back to Word, Office, then back to Adobe.
It is like the soup dijour every time we get a new IT manager. Doesn't matter if we have been there before, we're Goin' in Again Boys!

Not sure what else it can be, it would be one of those things that I need to sit around and poke it till I get it to work. I recommend trying to restore all settings to default. Go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - You will see two things, one says "Restore Advanced Settings", and the other "Reset". Do both.

I understand both sides of how IT departments work. Security is a big concern, and you may think your Britney Spears Nude screensaver is harmless, but it can easily carry a backdoor and compromise an entire network. With something like IE8, it probably is a compatibility issue with some web based application that you may or may not use.

Hey Swampy-

I'm having the same issue with ebay. But I'm using Vista and Firefox. I had to use the Google Chrome Browser in order to add to my Watch List and leave Feedback. I don't know what's going on either.
