I am in the market for a bike and recently sold my 09 1125cr. I am interested in the 09 xb12scg or the 09 xb9sx. I searched around but i'm not the best at computers so I decided to ask. I am wondering what are the pro's and con's of the two and if there are any problems with them. Also I'm 5'10'' and just want it for pleasure/commuting. thanks in advance

at 5'10" you have no NEED for the scg. it will sit lower all around(suspension and seat) then the xb9sx. but you can put a regular seat on it and raise your self up a bit without to much expense. suspension on the scg will be a little less forgiving simply because it has less suspension travel. thats how they achieved part of the lower ride height on the scg so the springs will be a bit stiffer.

other then that, it boils down to your personal preference on what motor you want. the 9 or the 12. ive had many, and ive kept my 9's thats just me.

If you like the XB9SX you'd probably like the XB12STT, IMO the best XB built. The 9 is smoother and has a higher rev limit. Those that come from imports and inline motors tend to prefer them. The 12's have a lot more torque (like 20 ft-lbs) and a bit more power (typically 10-15hp) but hit the rev limiter a lot sooner. If you like meaty V-twin torque and don't mind a rather lumpy power delivery the 12 is it.

I personally don't care for the 9's and love the 12's. In a perfect world there would've been a factory big-bore with the 9's stroke, but you could always build that $$yourself$$.

I'd go for an '07 or earlier xb, with the easier-to-play with ECM ('08's and later cannot use the basic ECMSpy program). You'll get as much bike for less money if you find a nicely cared-for, older xb.

I like the 09 scg because of the updated front brakes and the looks. I don't really mind the power of them I won't be racing daily. Also are there any known problems on any i've mentioned?
