If you're only talking about the look of the surface, style is what matters. Look at a '68 Bonneville and an '10 Bonneville and they look very similar. Nobody rags on Triumph though, I wonder why that is? | ||

Yep, I've read all that stuff, which has nothing to do with your comparison (i.e. slam) of Harley's current stying to that of a vintage Henderson. You VISIT museums... you don't LIVE in them. Or drive a '59 El Dorado Or a '34 Ford Ural should just go out of business What was Moto Guzzi thinking when they brought out the V7 Classic? I'll admit that HD has all their eggs in one basket and that's never a good idea, but it's a damn good motorcycle. Upper management? Well they can all kiss my a$$. | ||

Look at a '68 Bonneville and an '10 Bonneville and they look very similar. Nobody rags on Triumph though, I wonder why that is? Good point. Maybe it has to do with repristination versus residing in a similar style for many years? Checker Cab might be a better comparison or example of style remaining virtually stuck for awhile...~1940 to 1982 The difference is Checker was known for reliability, endurance, and comfort, and to a lesser extent should be admired for their marketing in their niche of the market. Harley should admired for the marketing and incredible sales figures they have enjoyed for a vehicle virtually stuck in style for many years. And people will pay top $ for a Harley.... but for a Checker...not so much... you're right...I wonder why that is... | ||

I think people dont bash Triumph b/c for a few reasons.... They haven't set themselves up and marketed themselves as a lifestyle to the same extent They dont have all their eggs in one basket They aren't the biggest dog on the block They didn't kill Buell. | ||

Sure they rag on Triumph. Hinckleys are a pale imitation of a Meriden to some. It was Badweb/Harley hostile for the first 10 years of resurgence too. | ||

any company in the world can make anything that looks decades old and its retro HD does it and people give them crap....for no real reason. sayit - the buell part, on here NOW - yes. But non-buell fans and before buell was shut down, the same thing happened. People just love to make fun of HD | ||

My post starts with the statement...I Think, so that means its just opinion. I think that everybody is right, H-D is stagnant (New FLH frame is a great move)The models all look alike except for chrome, seats, and fenders. People like that alot, so what the heck. Triumph does offer a very nice updated Bonneville that looks like the old ones but is now reliable, they also make a slew of very different models that all fill special niches. H-D is one of the big kids in the industry, like Honda/BMW/Yamaha (I know about Guzzi/KTM/Morini, but they are lesser players in the world market, no matter how great they are.) I like H-D, but the party line is getting hard to tow. The Boomers are past their mid-life crises, the "I deserve this" stage in life. Fewer of the born before 1970 crowd, myself included, are looking to drop 16-20K on the same bike we bought in 2000. Big Twin sales are slipping and the MoCo ignores every other segment of the market. The XR1200 is a step in the right direction, but it still weighs almost a hundred pounds more than my 99 S3, and makes 10 less HP, that does not seem like progress. The born after 1980 crowd is smarter and more savvy than the MoCo marketing guys think, they are also not so brand loyal. Believe me when I say that I do not want to see H-D on hard times because they support my Buells to an extent, but times are changing. Chrome and fat tires are not enough anymore. Just my opinion, cost nothing and worth even less. I hope H-D makes positive changes, but I won't be holding my breath. | ||

I guess they offer the retro models for the nostalgic folks. But they also supplement nostalgia with a very diverse lineup - sport bikes, streetfighters, etc. (Message edited by boltrider on December 09, 2010) | ||

Believe me when I say that I do not want to see H-D on hard times because they support my Buells to an extent this is a great statement and should be thought of by many/all of BadWeb Truly we dont know what wouldve happened with Buell if HD hadnt bought into the company. I have total faith in Erik Buell, he is a fighter and extremely innovated. But would he have gotten to where he is so quickly without HD? Would someone else have picked him up? Or would he still build bikes but on a lower scale and thus higher price? If thats the case many of us might not even be here. Who knows. I hate what HD did in the end, but dont forget that they did wonderful things for Buell a bit back. } | ||

DD: We got over it though! (LOL). The 2010 Bonneville is nothing like the '68 Bonnie (Other than looks!) However, my uncle would give anyone who will listen many, many good reasons as to why "New" Triumphs are not a patch on the "originals". Later, Chris C | ||

FWIW I like the Ultra's 'cockpit'. The Hyabusa is still my favourite though. Goldwing is impressive if you like gadgets. | ||

I owned HDs for 40 years and enjoyed them all. post 84 bikes are much more reliable. I sold my last Harley for a Ducati as HD has changed, My /HD interest ended. H.D.s are Uber reliable and easy to work on but they finally pushed my last button with Buell. | ||

But if you want to talk about "old" design look at ducati and thier desmodromic valves.... I mean come on guys it's been 50yrs and you can't come up with something better?  And Yandakawasuki that overhead cam inline four fad is waaaaay over guys. And as far as styling goes; most sportbike guys think all cruisers look alike and most cruiser guys think all sportbikes look alike. I still hate HD though. | ||

The Borg just released the "Assimilator 1200" the powerplant is the new transwarp38b black hole inverter...it corners at 12/14th gee...and goes 0-warp 10 in 2.4 seconds. It has temporal reversal brakes...it can stop before you pull the lever. It has received mixed reviews. The Ferengi are at work duplicating it. The Romulans claim it is stolen intellectual property. And a certain Starfleet office has a strong distaste for the styling.  | ||

I've been left standing on the side of the road 3 times in 30k miles on my Uly. 0 times in 80k miles on my Road King. Tell me which one is more reliable....just sayin'. |
