Well, I found a cheap deal on a Uly top case and I have a Ventura rack I'm going to mod to make it fit on the back of my M2 when I need some secure-ish storage.

But, this case I bought I believe came from a wrecked bike (scratches are proof), and bought from a junk yard after it was totaled. So, I don't have a key, but the case is locked. How do I get this open when it gets here? And how do I change the lock cylinders on the both locks? I found them online pretty cheap.

Thanks!

They're made by Hepco-Becker, might be a starting point-

Enginner yerself a plan B. Should be pretty simple.

I think they only used something like 10 different keysets for the Buell HB luggage. You might be lucky enough like me to get a topcase that already matches your sidecases. If not you might find a fellow badwebber willing to donate a key.

Drill right down into the tumblers with a 3/16 drill bit. Go in about 1/2". The lock will be unlocked. New locks are easy to change.

Take it to locksmith - usually $25 to open without damage. YOU MIGHT be able to identify the key on an interior stamp and just get a key through your dealer (or the locksmith)

I had a situation where the previous owner lost the keys to the bag releases. I had a locksmith make a set of keys for me, cost a whopping $15... I had no information at all on the locks and they were some oddball off brand too.

They are a 3 tumbler lock and quite simple actually. A locksmith is a good idea.

There are not many Buell key codes...but there are TONS of HB key codes. If the owner was like me, all their bags are rekeyed with HB locks (I did mine when I bought a 50L topcase and wanted all my bags to be keyed the same).

An option? Cut the latch where the lock side tabs into the base side (when you get it, you'll see what I am talking about). That will unhinge the latch, allowing you to open the case and exposing the screws that hold the latch to the case.

I get my parts from Chris at Eurotechmotorsports(.com). Latches are cheap ($20 or so) and so are lock cylinders with keys (about $7 each, and the cylinders each come with 2 keys). Get a latch and 2 cylinders, and you can key both the lid latch and the bag-to-bike latch the same.

They are ridiculously easy to pick - if you have a simple lock pick kit (internet $9.99) and a minimum of experience (it came with it's own DVD). I was in Iraq, I got bored on my down time - what can I say. Anyway, my top case has a different lock than my side case and I lost the key years ago - so I switched out one of the locks that holds the side case to the mounting bracket with the main lock for the top case. I've been meaning to get it rekeyed "one of these days". Hasn't happened yet. But I do carry a pick and a rake in my handlebar bag and when I need to I can pick the "other" lock in seconds. So rather than try to drill it and possible eff something up take it to a locksmith. If he's any good he might not even charge you (especially if you have him rekey it for you)

Well, that was easy enough. Less than thirty seconds with a paper clip and a small screwdriver and BAM.

Inside was a busted XB clutch or brake lever...Can't tell because it's broke that far up.

Anyways, work time, then on to seeing how to mod the Ventura rack for fitment tomorrow.

Wow, real high security stuff.

And the moral of this little tale?
Don't leave anything valuable in your Buell luggage.
