2010 Ford Fusion SE.. I just got tired of driving crap. Up until today, my '98 Mustang was the newest vehicle I've ever owned. (four-wheeled vehicle that is)
Although I've never been a Ford guy, the Mustang has impressed me a lot even though it's never been "my kind of car". That on top of the very impressive fact that Ford is the only US manufacturer to turn down bailout money convinced me to finally buy a new(er) one.
This one is used with 44k highway miles already, but the first owner was nice enough to cover the first $8000 in depreciation
Any other Fusion owners here? Anything specific to look out for? So far everything I've heard and read has been excellent.
I'm a little bit biased, as I work at a Ford dealer, but the Fusion is one bad assed platform. I like to talk to the techs, and generally, there are no systemic issues with this car. Everything has some problems, but there aren't any to speak of as a pattern is what I'm saying.
those things are tanks! my friend andria has one....she's not the best of drivers, she's backed up into many trees, cars, hit many animals and slid into the ditch twice from snow....the car still looks brand new!
What is it with Ford these days? I have no cage brand loyalty, but if I had the money, I'd have a Raptor, a Mustang GT, and a Fiesta in the garage. The Fusion would be too if I needed a sedan.
My next vehicle once the wifes Explorer is paid off will be a Ford Flex AWD with the Ecoboost V6!! I love the looks of this vehicle and it has sooo much room inside! IMO you cannot go wrong with a new ford product.
My son has one. Metallic black, 4 cyl, with heated leather seating (darned if i know why, he lives near Houston...). Seems like a very nice car to me.
He had some tranny problems early on. A software glitch caused a mechanical failure that took the entire transmission down, Ford took good care of him.
I flew down to visit him a few weeks back (actually it was to see the granddaughter...) and my wife and I rented a new Mustang Convertible. It had the V-6 but still had plenty of giddyup. Over 30 mpg also. I was impressed with the overall feel of the car. I noticed a tiny bit of axle tramp from the live rear when accelerating hard in bumpy corners but it was barely noticeable.
I'd consider buying a Ford if I was in the market right now. I'm off GM and Chrysler for life.
Jim, I've looked at quite a few LS's over the past year. Always thought they had a classy modern look reminiscent of the early 90's Thunderbirds (a good thing IMO) I would have ended up nickel and diming myself to death though tweaking an LS to get it where I'd want to cosmetically. Something like this..
cc, I went to the dealer specifically to test drive a Fiesta. Feels like a great car, but I couldn't find one I was happy with. (5-door and standard shift were musts for me - The dealer had neither) Seems like the base model is too barren of useful features, but those "farkles" rack up fast on the price tag as well. If I had been looking for a car two years from now and some used Fiestas were available with the big depreciation hit already taken, the Fiesta would have been a more viable option for me.
It's also pretty disappointing that the US doesn't get a diesel option. We never get the cool stuff here..
ok, if you are thinking of a track day vehicle check out their 'transit connect' delivery vehicle. all you need is the ramp, and the tiedowns. Available without all the microsoft googleydoos.... if I were buying, that would be the rig.
Hummm, I may have to eat some humble pie here along with some of my words.
Wifey darling's (up till now impressive) '06 Focus C-Max diesel blew the turbo last week & according to the garage that recovered it the motor is "blocked". Quite why I don't yet know but with less than 65,000 miles on it, you can guess that I'm less than impressed. So it's been stood up for the moment, we're in the process of packing up to move & I don't currently have a garage (or the time) to work on it.
Going to look at a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee tomorrow to replace it, 2.5 VM diesel lump in it, an engine I know well & love more.
the new fusion is a nice car, there is a recall for the trans problems to reprogram tcm, pcm. same trans in escapes as well. depending on what engine you have, the 4cyl has cooling sys issues once it gets older and both v6's have vct problems but they usually fail in warranty and parts are updated to fix it.
to cc and pk, if the dealership did not set you up with an account on www.syncmyride.com, you can do it yourself and have the vehicle health report and the traffic/directions features activated. SYNC is incredible and most people only scratch the surface of all the features it offers.
I don't have SYNC. I really don't need a car that talks to me, but I could live without the phone button on the dash as a constant reminder that my car lacks options.
The dealer had another slightly used 2010 Fusion for sale that was identical to the one I purchased. Only difference was that one was an SEL instead of an SE, had every available option, and was priced $12k higher. No thanks.
turbowolf - any details on the cooling issues? Mine does have the 2.5L. I'll do some research online and see what I need to look out for. I'm thrilled with the smaller engine. Never driven a Fusion with the V6 but this I4 has all the power I need. With my around town driving habits - lots of short trips - I'm averaging a little over 26mpg so far. Interstate with cruise set on 60mph averages a sweet 46mpg
I guess testing the limits of fuel economy before top speed means I'm getting old.
oh btw, Ford's tech manuals for this car are priced at $700. We're all so spoiled with the available $60 Buell FSM's.
The thermostats stick open and it will turn on the light cause it won't heat up quick enough. Kind of a pain to get to. Done a few. At least they don't overheat.
And definitely just realized you're in Yukon. I'm in OKC. We should go for a ride some time. That is, after the XT gets wheel bearings or the X1 gets head gaskets.
Just put a down on a very low miles Chrysler 300. Now to put a 2" hitch to the rear to hold a max of 550lbs on the tongue for emergency purposes - lol - and the wife is set! EZ
No government bailout is as good a reason as any to buy one.
I'm about to buy a Ford van, either E250 or E350 depending on what's out there. Buying used, because money's a little tight and I don't need another monthly payment right now.
