The House creates the budget. Obama can either sign the budget or not. If he doesn't, the federal check book closes. Those who work for the Federal Government don't get paid. Worked several times in reverse with Reagan. | ||

The House creates the budget. Obama can either sign the budget or not. Maybe I misheard or misunderstood, but I didn't think that the Dem controlled house passed a budget for this year? Either way, January won't get here fast enough. I'm kinda fearful of what the lame duck liberals will try to pass in the next 8 weeks. In some ways I'm glad that the Senate didn't go Republican as well, gridlock can be your friend. | ||

The Senate gains were about as expected. Conservatives don't hold a majority but are in a great position. There are two Independents that we can find common ground with and a number of Dems who won tonight only did so by distancing themselves from Obama. Even centrist Dems (if there is still such a thing) know better than to bray about Obama. To all who have been bleating about Tea Baggers and such: get ready for the Tea Party Caucus in Congress. Soon we will be in the White House. The People have spoken that this Wonderful Government has grown too big and needs to be pared back. | ||

The budget runs from October to September if I'm correct. I believe the budget for the 2010/2011 fiscal year has been passed. | ||

If the budget hasn't been passed, you can bet that the "continuing resolution" will be terminated and the 2010/2011 budget will be passed before they leave office. | ||

I have only slightly more faith in the Repubs than I did in the Dems. Neither gives a damn about anything except their own power and making themselves look good by making the other guy look worse. Dems - Health care reform, ~900 billion 10 year cost estimate (cost will be somewhat offset by increased revenues) Repubs - Medicare Part D, ~750 billion 10 year cost estimate They all pander to their supporters and it doesn't matter to them if what they are doing is good for America or not, only about how it will impact the next election cycle. Fatty, I certainly hope you're right. I guess only time will tell if they will "walk the walk" or only "talk the talk". Regardless, the split Congress should ensure a nice case of gridlock with both groups in their glass houses throwing rocks back and forth. | ||

Pretty much no one I voted for won. It's not surprising, my county has some of the worst public schools, and highest taxes on the planet. The number of people on the dole is quite high, and it just makes sense for them to vote for the party that put them there, keeps them there, and pretends to care about them as anything other than vote machines, paid for by my ( and your ) taxes. That bitch aside, good luck to the tea & republican party winners nationwide. Remember, screw us and you will be gone in 2-4 years. If it's business as usual, expect housewives who care to challenge you in debate, in the halls, on the streets....and will kick your butts in the next election, no matter how much you condescend them as "palins" or mock their Soccer Mom mentalities. What the Tea Party has demonstrated is that common folks getting involved int he political process can have a dramatic influence on the status quo. It's just taken Conservatives 50 years to figure out what the Democrats have known since the 60's. | ||

There's another election in 2 years. 1/3 of the senate will be up again. If Obama's poll numbers are still down it will continue to look bad for the democrats. A point was made last night that a large number of the democrat power structure in congress is getting on in years. If they can't have control a lot of them will decide not to play at all and retire. These will indeed be interesting times. Now if I can just keep my business running. | ||

The good news that I see here is that there has been a change in the tides of Congress because of the Tea Party. For decades now it's been a Mr. Smith Goes To Washington situation. (I know I just lost a bunch of the young'ns, go rent the movie.) Basically you had to play ball to survive. Now there's enough of a tidal change that they could gridlock both sides from passing crap legislation. If they don't block the crap, then vote them out ASAP! Repeat in two years time. Bottom line is that it's up to the voters to hold their feet to the fire. Send a clear message that the old status quo isn't acceptable any more. Putting a gridlock on pork isn't a bad thing, regardless of your party affiliation. This election really is cracking the door open for the people to take control again. The other option is to go back to the broken two sided politics that virtually everyone seems to agree is hurting a once great country. This really is a crossroads period. Which path are you going to choose? I said YOU! |
