Ok, it has happened 3 or 4 times now. I start the bike and for some reason the 2 trip meters get zeroed out so I have no clue how many miles I have put on that tank of gas. Could it be the battery?

Yup. Mine would do the same thing when I had a bad connection. When I would start the bike, the screen would blank, and everything would reset (including the clock). It's a low voltage issue, which could be caused by a number of things.

Hmmm, well thank you guys for the tips. I was hoping it was just the battery b/c I need to replace it anyway.

If your battery is low, or you don't have good connections, it will do that. The trip meters need a minimum voltage to maintain their setting.

If you don't have a voltmeter you should get one. It's kind of like checking your tire pressure without a gauge.
