So this kind of appeared in the front yard a bit over a week ago...

Since we all know that Vamps is an air-cooled kind of gal, you're probably wondering what the heck is going on...

Well, the 1125CR is my brother-in-law Nigel's new bike. He has been bike-less for the last five years. Why bike-less? Has he been living on a small island in the South Pacific with virtually no motorcycles or something? Ahh, yes, actually, he has been living on a small island in the South Pacific with virtually no motorcycles, and it's been driving him just a little crazy! : D

Nigel has owned all sorts of bikes in the past - Japanese, Italian, German and American (including an X1) - and is the one responsible for getting me into bikes in the first place. Now that he and my sister and niece are back in Sydney, he'd been thinking of an XB12R, but after much discussion about how happy and impressed I've been with my 1125R, he went hunting for a CR. This one turned up in Brisbane and I went and checked it out for him - 3,500km's, not a mark on it, basically new, and reasonably priced.

Nigel flew up here on saturday and to pick up his new toy:

Vamps and I took Nigel down to the new local pub for a few drinks and a nice meal on saturday night and it was great to catch up, with lots of talk about motorcycles and our trip to the USA.

Sunday morning we got up at a leisurely hour to grey sky's and damp roads : (, but being the true bad weather bikers we are , we went for a ride anyway, so he could get used to the bike and I could show him some of the local roads. Once we got a little inland we got lucky and it was generally dry : D. On the way back we got soaked 15 minutes from home!

Despite having hardly ridden in 5 years, he seemed to get back into it pretty easily:

Nige headed south for home, Sydney, this morning with plans to take the long way : ). I'm sure you'll see him posting on here soon, so please join me in welcoming him (back) to the madness : D

cheers,
chili

What kind of handle grips are those on the 1125R? What do you like and dislike about them?
Thanks
Mike}

Sounds like he's loving the 1125CR. I got an sms from him a little while ago - the CR is "purrin'", he's a little sore but having a great ride : ). He got as far as Uralla yesterday, so I'd say he'll be home mid afternoon today.

"Now...more on the Mopar in the garage?"
That's "Val", a 1970 Chrysler Valiant Pacer Hardtop with 245ci Hemi six. Pretty similar to a '68 Dodge Dart, the Pacer model was kind of like a Swinger or Roadrunner model - no frills but has bits like a standard tacho and "go fast" stripes : ).

Mike - I got the grips on ebay from Hong Kong. The red bit's are anodised alloy sleeves over the rubber grip. I was a little worried they'd be either slippery or too hard, but I don't really notice them when riding as I put most of my weight on the outside of my palm on the rubber part. I prefer them over the OEM grips, the rubber part is slightly thinner and slightly softer.

"What small island?"
Norfolk Island, population about 2,000, maximum speed limit is 60km/h I think. Technically it's part of the state of New South Wales, but don't try and tell the locals that!
Google Map Norfolk Island

Nigel is loving the bike. He looked a little nervous when it came to twitching the throttle the first time, but when the guys got to the base of Mount Glorious, ready to turn for home, he suggested.."We're at the base, we may as well go up!"
Back into the swing of it I'd say.
He mentioned he avoided a few sticky bits by miscalculating, but they got home in two full pieces, so all's well that ends well : )
No doubt, as Chili says, he will be a familiar face on here soon enough. He mentioned sending out a "Thank-you" to the world of Badweb for keeping his spirits up whilst he was bike-less : )

It was the worst 6 months ever!

Congrats on the new bike.

What did he do wrong to get posted there?

Riding's like drugs & alcohol & gambling, you never get cured of the addiction, you just control it.

The frontal area is huge on the R compared to the CR.Looks like it would have good wind protection.
I want one!
Welcome Nigel.
