I'm baffled by the abortion arguments. Liberals claim that conservatives are anti-science. Just take a look at the science behind abortion.

The claim is that a woman should be able to do with her body what she pleases. That's a sound enough argument. A fertilized egg isn't part of the woman's body though. Just look at the DNA and science proves that this is a new living being. Science shows us that the cells will replicate and eventually grow into an adult human being. The science could not be more clear. Abortion kills a completely separate human life.

If scientists were to find replicating cells on one of Saturn's moons it would be a huge scientific discovery of life. Somehow we try to pretend that in the case of abortion we aren't taking life. According to science we are stopping the life of a being that has it's own unique DNA belonging only to itself.

If we can't be honest about the abortion debate, let's at least be honest about which side is anti-science.

what about the death penalty
2 different things, the person being killed by the abortion has no say in the procedure whether by verbal agreement or action.
The person being killed by the death penalty has done something usually by voluntary action that results in their sentence

What about it?

Are you arguing moral equivalence between the murder of the most innocent and helpless versus the execution of convicted adult murderers and then only after a very lengthy process?

Is that the gist of your question?

Care to compare the number of executions to the number of abortions in America?

Do people become wealthy running execution clinics?

Planned Parenthood is one corporation that is truly perpetrating evil purely for financial gain.

There seems to be a pattern of folks being divided as against capital punishment and supporting "a woman's right to choose" (abortion), or against abortion and for capital punishment.

Isn't capital punishment a legal form of "retro-active abortion?"

Abortion is killing of a completely innocent life.

Capital punishment is killing of someone who has been found guilty of very serious offenses.

To go with stereotypes, one group is in favor of protecting the innocent and killing the guilty. The other group is in favor of protecting the guilty and killing the innocent. Only one of those stereotypes seems even remotely rational to me. I won't make the claim that every person fits the stereotype perfectly, but the stereotype is a slice of reality in the world.

I can understand the idea that someone may not believe capital punishment to be moral. That same morality should apply to protection of an innocent life too. Anything less is being completely inconsistent.

Are you arguing .... nope, I just want to hear what some people think...

Does it really matter? Is there a Heaven? Is there a Hell? Do we go there when we die or do we just become dirt?

Who's path is the right path? Christian? Muslim? Buddhist?

If I was to die RIGHT NOW.. what would it matter?
The only people it would effect would be the people directly involved in my life....

I was born again at one point in my life but the older I get the more questions I have

Maybe I'm just lost...

Who's path is the right path?

That's pretty much my question.

Protect the innocent, but kill the guilty vs. Protect the guilty, but kill the innocent.

Yes indeed, who's path seems to be the right path?

One more piece of irony... Our government says that a woman can kill an unborn child, assisted by a medical worker, and is even funding it in the new health care bill. This same government also says that it is unlawful for this same woman to take her own life and will prosecute a medical worker for assisting in that suicide. So much for a woman's choice.

There is no reason to be confused between the moral differences in abortion and capital punishment other than by choice.

There is no moral equivalence.

It's like being confused between murder and war. Only someone being voluntarily obtuse would confuse one with another.

Personally I'm not comfortable with a river of hypocrisy. Some seem OK with that though.

When I was younger I though the Roe v. Wade decision was a great thing. Over the years I've come to realize just how wrong I was. I could have stayed comfortable in my ignorance. I'm glad I examined the facts of the issue and now have an informed opinion instead of the purely selfish opinion of my youth.

Many rivers lead to deadly waterfalls before getting to the ocean. Just sayin'.

This is not a moral question. There exists a large group of people that want to make vast sums of money by growing and selling human body parts. "Right to choose" is just a foot in the door to get fetus/embryos declared property. By classifying fetus/embryo in this manner the line can be blurred and the raising of embyos up to a "useful" size will commence and huge sums of money will be gained.

those of us that believe that all life is to be protected are standing in the way of this profit engine and are thus to be crushed. Make no mistake about it this is all about money.

Great Thread.

I became Firmly against Abortion when my Son (Jerrett) was born, after much hardship on the parts of his mother, and myself.

If it was this hard to make a Life, why has it become so easy and heartless to extinguish one?

my view on this matter is wrong is wrong, I believe in God and promise that everyone of you do to. Maybe not now but when your world comes crashing down on you and you have no where to go I bet you will pray. If you say no, then wait till you are on your death bed and I promise you, you will pray like there is no tomorrow, because there isnt. Abortion is taking a life that has done nothing wrong, and has no say so in the matter. If its about a woman doing what she wants with her body because its hers then maybe she should think about the consequences of the actions. The Lord has a plan for all of us, even that unborn baby. Im not saying this to spark a debate or provoke anyone, but that doctor she spoke about will be delt with by God in due time.

why is it on the woman?
go get your sack snipped and tucked; and you dont have to worry about what she does with her body.

Against abortion, dont have one
Against children, dont have them
It really doesnt get more difficult than that

Another point to consider:

Total abortions completed 1973-2006, 49,551,703.

http://www.nrlc.org/ABORTION/facts/abortionstats.h tml

Assuming the total fertility rate average from 1973 to 2009, 3.0, and assuming that these 50M aborted are 50% male and 50% female pair bonds, our society is missing 100,000,000 people.

These are both producers and consumers. They pay taxes and reproduce. The 75M offspring represent an additional 168M tax payers, producers and consumers.

From a strictly economic and societal standpoint, the impact of abortion is staggering. Just "not having one" doesn't insulate you from the impacts. The 243M missing people, were they here, would be more than enough to refill social security and medicare coffers.

The budgetary deficits we are currently observing are due in part to Roe v. Wade.

From a death standpoint, abortion (and the corresponding termination of offspring) represents one of the single largest intentional mass killings in human history.
