I have a new customer at work who just bought a 99 M2. He wants to change the derby cover, and before I order it and get stuck with a cover that won't fit, I want to know. Thanks! |

Dude- I do NOT think so. M2 derby cover:
XB derby cover:
The M2 cover is circular, has 4 bolts, and seals on an O-ring. The XB cover is weirdly-shaped, has 3 bolts, and seals on a rubber-coated metal gasket. I'm 99.97% sure the covers are NOT interchangeable. |

Make sure the derby cover is for '91-'03 XL, because '04-up XL will NOT fit. |

I ordered the cover yesterday, and I was cringing the whole time. The guy has a gorgeous M2, and he wants to gay it up with that chrome and gold live to ride eagle spirit crap... I tried to talk him out of it, but that is what he HAS to have. I almost cried... |

91-03 is a 4 bolt derby cover, the later kind is 5 bolt as seen in that fine display of chromosexuality above. |

Good news! The cover is on backorder at Tiwan Ted's VTwin, so the motorcycle gods have shone on me today!!!!! |

PK I count 6 bolt holes in the derby cover above. |

Maybe you could show the dude some pictures of how a clean and polished stock cover can look, then sell him some metal polish and soft cloths. There are lots of aluminum bits that loose their factory shine, a few hours making those things gleam may make him feel a little less need for the chrome treatment. My derby cover below had not gotten any attention besides cleaning for about a year. A thorough polishing will last a long time. I almost, but not quite lost my soul to the polishing gods, then decided it was better to just ride it and polish things up every few years or so... Here's some pretty pictures:
