A friend of mine called me up this afternoon as he was at motorcycle swap-meet sorta thing & he'd just picked up a Harley tank & a fairing for his BMW R100S & had no way to get them home, he wanted me to go over with some straps but lucky for him I was only 10 miles away with the car & trailer.
Anyway I went along & had a wander round (as you do) not expecting to see anything Buell, but you never know.

Peeking out of a box full odd indicators on one stand I saw a familiar looking tail light (tuber, & I needed one for my M2 rebuild) & asked the guy what it was for & how much. He said it was off a 125 possibly Honda but he wasn't sure, he reckoned it also fit some scooters. I walked off with it for €5 in perfect cond with a bulb & even the mounting nuts & spacers!

I know that lamp is the same as the Ducati monster unit as well & it got me thinking, now that parts are going to be fewer & farther between what other equivalent parts can you pick up cheap for your Buell.

There was an oil filter equivalence list in the KV at one time & I had the idea that it might be a good thing to post an equivalence list for other parts as & when you discover things.

Not sure exactly how to do it though.

Your thoughts?

In the case of oil filters, for example, just because it will screw on and it's the same size does not mean it is equivalent. What about filter media size? What about prv?
It may be the same with some other parts. It's easy to get bad or misleading info on the interwebz.
Proceed with caution and your plan would be a great benefit.

I was thinking of the tuber filters Dan, many of the options are superior to the original, & with a greater oil capacity too.

The other things I had in mind was stuff like switchgear, mirrors, lighting etc. Basically all the ancilliary stuff, but why not forks, wheels etc, anything to keep the wheels going round in fact.

Tuber, Nissin rear master cylinder looks the same as fitted on various quads but I haven't verified yet,

We XBer's tend to forget that the tubers have been obsolete for a long time. We are now all in the same boat kinda.
It seems to me that because the XB's (maybe tubers too) were assembled from outsourced parts, at least some of those parts could be aquired from the original sources. I know that some of them are used for other things too. Aren't the fuel injectors Ford or something?

Yup. A list needs to be created. I think you have a very good idea!

I have been working an a list for the S2s.. Seems like every time I call to get a part that something else gets added. It is nothing we have not delt with in the past.

I think it will be harder to get XB parts than tuber parts before too long but that is just a guess.. I sure hope it does not come down to parting a good bike just to fix another.

My girl was watching a TLC show about Hoarders.. I have a feeling she was thinking about me and the parts I have in the garage.

What to do!!!! LOL

I saw XB blinkers on a new Jap bike not too long ago, but can't remember what it was now! I'm sure they had to be standard issue, because honestly, who would use those things as a mod?

So how do we go about this?
A sticky thread in the KV?
Or a separate one for each generation, in it's respective spot? XBoard, OldSchool, etc...

Some tuber blinkers are the same as Guzzi btw. (mind you they all use the same fluid)

Neverenuf, it's going very slowly at the moment due partly to moving, but also damn stupid French bureaucracy have changed the rules since the accident & I now have paperwork problems, nothing insurmountable but not got the time at the moment.

I've used Ducati fork seals on my XB. Perfect fit and my local dealer had them in stock.

That's the sort of thing Sifo but we need a place to set it up properly & details of model & part numbers if possible.

I know the head gasket from a, I think, 2000 sporty is the same as an XB. The spark plugs for a VRod are the same as an XB as well.

Had a spark plug blow out the front head 200 miles from home.

OK here's a link to a thread in the Knowledge Vault DIY section, called Parts Equivalence. Post your findings there.
