That really bothers me Court. Did Erik not sign the contract that gave HD a controlling interest in Buell (for a pittance, we all learned later) and did not HD then own 98% of Buell? What are you saying?

hmmm, The Ecm that makes my bike nice to ride came from Erik Buell Racing, not hd. The Uly is an XB, isn't it? Some of this thread is like a monday morning, when the slackers that never did, complain about the choices of the doers. It is never good to make a deal with the devil no matter how noble your intentions. Haven't we all been there?

Boliver, Here's your hat, what's your hurry?

Erik Buell Racing is providing parts for racing, they are not "supporting" the bikes that HD/Buell used to produce, not in the manner that Bolivar suggests that they should. If he has a gripe about product support for his XB, blaming Erik Buell Racing is not going to get him anywhere. Erik Buell Racing doesn't support that bike, HD does. Erik Buell Racing is not to blame for HD shuttering Buell. That's all I'm saying.

Erik did not sell Buell Motor Company to HD. He wound down that business and started a new one called Buell Motorcycles. My understanding is that Erik owned 49% of that, HDI owned 49% and a third party owned 2%. Erik sold his 49% to HDI in 1998 I think. I don't know what became of the 2%.

That is my understanding and I could be incorrect.

That's the most accurate account I've read here.

I think a good deal of this spawns from someone writing some wild spin . . and then someone else repeating it . . citing as their source . . "well, I read it on the internet".

Lord help us if Erik reads all these imaginary reasons he can't be in business. He'd be crushed.

Unlikely.

: )

I've yet to read one that holds, in my opinion, any gravity.

Terrible. Now get down off my duck.

As such, a question I would like to pose to te construction industry is how does 'anything' hold gravity. Flubber?

Why build bikes if you have no where to sell them? I don't think HD shut down Buell, but Buell shut down because of HD. Could be wrong though....

Hoot, HD didn't "own" it in the true sense of the word.

They sure did in the "real" sense of the word. I'd call 98% control owning it. If I owned 98% of HD's stock, I'd say I owned HD. 'Course, if I owned 98% of HD's stock, we wouldn't be having this conversation and Buell would be cranking out production B2s right now.

I tire of the semantics. Fact is, HD had enough control of Buell to cease production and there wasn't anything Buell could do about it.

But AGAIN, my point is that HD is responsible for support all the bikes produced while Buells were being made by HD, and the completely separate and unrelated company, Erik Buell Racing, is not. If this is not the case, take your Uly in to Erik Buell Racing for some warranty work and see what happens.

That's what I was trying to say. You said it better.

H/D had a good thing under their roof. They pissed it out the window and smacked a brilliant mind in the face!

If this is not the case, take your Uly in to Erik Buell Racing for some warranty work and see what happens.

Legally Erik owes you nothing as far as warranty work goes and i think we all agree on that one, but here's something to think about:

You pull up in front of any of the (Corporate or manufacturing) HD facilities in Wisconsin with your Uly having trouble, what would happen?

Now pull up in front of E B R having a problem and what do you think would happen?

My (if I may borrow this term Spidey) Spidey senses tell me that you'd have a very helpful Erik and company doing all they could to get you back on the road, rather then pretend you dont exist. And in that lies the difference between legal obligations and passionate people!

+1 to that Shawn, and you don't even have to own a Buell! Case in point about 1:55 into video:
