Well, all the jackasses who, "...don't care about performance, I just want the loudest exhaust possible." have brought it down on themselves. However, I'm not bitching about the law. I hear you, buddy. I'm at my wits end with it myself. It's to the point that I can't hear my T.V. in my own living room. The thing that really gets me is the fact that the VAST majority of the people who put big pipes on their bikes can't ride their bikes to their potential in stock form, let alone with performance mods. I say if your exhaust is unreasonably loud, you pay a hefty fine and return the bike to stock form. Get caught twice, double the fine and lose your license for 10 days, as well as returning the bike to stock. Third time, jail. | ||

define loud I concur with this statement/question. I have a blast w/ V&H which is louder than stock and can be louder than some other bikes @ times but how is it going to be determined what is too loud} | ||

I don't know though cause 80db is less than a vacum cleaner though. I am gonna buy a decibel meter and see what my Barker pipe is putting out. I have a 1.5" quite core in it the pipe is loud but not crazy loud I am interested to see just how many db it is and how many the stocker is | ||

CA has defined loud in terms of dB and how far away and at what angle - and has established test standards. Now the proposed legislation is that ALL PIPES must have DOT and EPA permanent marks - or you MAY be ordered to call for a cab when your bike is impounded. Like street racing and stunting, we're bringing this down on our own heads. Brrappp, brap, brrrmmm, brrooom! (South Park, The "F" Word episode) | ||

I don't know, but I know it when I see it. I've never seen loud..... heard it though. Straight pipes on HD's with no baffles. Rev them up and let the throttle go. Pop pop bang Bang. Sounds like crap most of them. | ||

Performance is one thing. And, if you are paying attention, most actual performance pipes are not all THAT loud. Free-breathing...but not rattle-the-windows noisy. Loud for the sake of loud? That's just dumb. And things like drag pipes...that's all they are good for. No backpressure, they suck power right out of the engine, and the only byproduct is - you guessed it - an earshattering racket. If they do it within reason - i.e. not everything has to be hoover-quiet - I'm all for it. If my tuber race cans don't pass...I can just repack and rejet. | ||

I AM BITCHIN ABOUT THE LAW I'm so happy, I'm soooo happy  I got the F out of that state. Living in the hills where red necks dwell. No smog, and no smog requirements, where there's still a little bit of freedom. Drag pipes on the street are stupid. And I love that south park episode, saw it again tonight. But how much of this is about the $$, and another easy way/reason to pull you over, and harass bikers? There have been noise ordinances on the books for a long time in California. You can get a ticket for pipes that are too loud already, same with stereos. This law is BS, it's a law for the sake of making a law, making news, and controlling. It's another way for the government to control what you can and can't do, what you can and can't buy, or sell. A way to make the EPA happy, and screw over after market suppliers, and retailers. A simple anouncement that current noise ordinances were going to be more strongly enforced, would have worked at curbing the noise problem. When they come for the ________, I said nothing... It's ALWAYS about the soft targets first. | ||

I concur with Bads1 completely on both of his post.Not sure how the factory race can even compares to some.But I think the whole reason behind this law stems from the HD guys.They seem to be the only ones who run pipes without a muffler at all.That is the norm for a HD setup.Unfortunately the sportbike riders in Cali are the ones to suffer. | ||

I think "Buell Race Exhaust" needs to be defined as for which bike. The XB Race Exchaust is nothing like the full setup for the 1125 models. | ||

Someone passes my house everyday with a small ricer twin, and no baffles. Unbelievably loud, and •••••• sounding. I'd like to find his house and steal the pipes off of it. He'd probably think they were heisted because they sound so nice. ha! | ||

I have a drummer on my 1125R and I would say its loud. I also had it tuned at Erik Buell Racing, and gained about 20hp. I ride with my IPOD in on long rides, with out the IPOD the Drummer would be to loud. I would be willing to bet people think my bike is too loud, but my riding friends said that it is not too loud riding with me, or when I ride away. | ||

Cali is broke. This is another way to raise funds. Watch a spitting fine come up. In Singapore it is $300 buck fine. | ||

aftermarket exhaust the increase sound beyond the epa pproved factory exhaust has been illegal for many years thinking 70's or early 80's....... i really don't see why cali thinks they need this piece of legislation to actually enforce the epa mandate. | ||

Government Ddefinition of loud is anything above stock. If you want to write tickets, you don't need another law. I have heard just as many loud sport bikes, old lawn mowers, chain saws, semi trucks, and screaming kids that annoyed me much more than the rumble of a v-twin. And just for the record the most anoying bike I have ever riden next to was a Buell Blast with the V&H pipe. Sorry if that offends any blast owners here, but seriously that was not a good sound at all. | ||

Any pipe I've heard on an 1125 is stupid loud. The Spec Ops on my XB, while sounding good, was louder than I would have liked. The Drummer on my 1125 is WAY louder than I would have liked, even with the baffle I made to go in it. The Race Exhaust on my S3T is louder than I would like. It's about quality, not quantity. I'm not sure why everything has to be so damn loud. |
