Shouldn't there be a holiday to honor the inventor of home air conditioning?

Yet on the other hand, Precluding the need for intelligent siting and design/layout, whole house AC led to really idiotic home designs.

Religion is not God.
Men invent religions. Just sayin', again.
The great world wars were fought for democracy, land, and freedom, not over religion.
Religion cannot save anyone.
Belonging to a certain group cannot save you, belonging to a religion cannot save you, saying certain words cannot save you, being sprinkled with any type of water cannot save you, being immersed in any type of water cannot save you, rituals cannot save you, sacraments cannot save you, reading cannot save you, a prayer said over you cannot save you, dressing a certain way cannot save you, communion cannot save you, abstaining from certain things cannot save you.
Religions are about rules.
Religion is not required by God.

Scientific theories, as mentioned above, are theories generally accepted as drawn from a body of facts. A theory is an abstract thought, hypothesis, or guess. Science, itself, is accumulated systematized knowledge in the physical world/universe.

If one accepts scientific theories, then one should not be surprised if they evolve. Having faith in a theory or faith in a scientific fact is not a relationship with with the theory or the scientific fact.

Having faith in God is a relationship to God.

You get to decide which faith is right for you.

Without AC, Washington D.C. would empty out in summer. Now, they can do things wrong all year long. That's a curse!

Still, the inventor of the heat pump ( AC, refrigeration, etc.) really should be revered on this planet.

Sainthood, planetary, non denominational Sainthood.

I'd also suggest the guy who invented Beer. His name is long lost in antiquity. The ability to carry grain across the desert.... that has to have affected most of the world's religions.

Speaking of Christianity and Judaism, if you read the Bible, then God did indeed create religion, not man. Man created religious denominations/sects.

Patrick, you may have just hit on a beautiful idea. The effectiveness of HVAC for the house and senate chambers and offices should be proportional to their approval rating. BRILLIANT!

"His name is long lost in antiquity"

Actually, it was probably a woman. In hindsight they, as a gender, probably regret that particular accomplishment.

But yeah, beer made civilization possible. It preserved grain. It made the water safe to drink. It gave people a reason to settle down and grow crops.

Beer is the reason I get up in the afternoon.

Personally, I think A/C is both a blessing and a curse. Mostly a curse. I freeze my a** off most everywhere I go during the summer months, in particular my office, where I'm sitting now, freezing. They will aircondition the living s**t out of this place in summer but won't pay to heat it in winter. WTF? I could pretty much do without it except I like it when I'm sleeping. Actually, I would cheerfully go back to 1950 and the only thing I would really miss would be cell phones.
