...is where I came from. I have always been drawn to harleys, which ultimately lead me to Buells!!

The time has come that I will be re-visiting the dark side... Tommorrow I go to pick up a 1998 XL883 (NOT from an h-d dealer). Not to worry though, as the 1998 S1W, the 2006 XB12X and 2004 XB12R racebike will remain in the stable.

Congrats...

I'm running a 2009 ST1300 as a stable mate with my Buell's.

"Darksiding" in the motorcycle world is using a car tire on the rear instead of an approved mc tire.

I wouldn't mind supporting the dealer I used to go to- it's supporting H-D through parts is what's unacceptable to me. There is no longer a vehicle I own that requires a penny from me to H-D in order to function. The next American motorcycle I buy will have no connection to H-D in any way- and hopefully it will say Buell on it somewhere.

Enjoy your XL.

Congrats on the Sportster. I still have my FXDX in the garage with the XT. I don't like the way HD treated EB or BMC, that doesn't mean I don't like HD motorcycles. I am not as drawn to cruisers as I was when I bought my FXDX, but if I wanted another cruiser, I am sure I would want a HD. My current favorite cruisers are the Street Bob and the Wide Glide. I can't see me buying either one of them, but I do like them.

Paint - I guess you'll have to count me too. Started riding in '77 - first bike: '72 sportster (chicken shat yellow), then a '77 XLCR (wish I still had that one), a '78 Low Rider, some unremarkable Hondahas here and there, and finally the home-built shown on my profile before I started riding Buells - the XB, then the 1125. Funny thing, the purple beast has virtually no H-D parts other than some gaskets and switches here and there..

I've gone metric. Yesterday I picked up an '06 Vulcan 2000 to add to the Buell. Talk about night and day. Just what I was after.

They better considering you loose your ass on resale.

Not sure if things have changed in the past couple years, but the last time I looked at any metric cruisers everything had a very "Made in Korea" feel to it compared to H-D's.

I don't like H-D corporate - but they still build a hell of a bike, and the workers don't deserve to be shitted on for it.

Have you seen the resale on a Buell lately?

I couldn't get a 1/5 of what I've invested over the years, which is alright. If I wanted a return I'd have bought stocks. The Vulcan seems very solid and well built and is HUGE. It's an '06 with 13K on the clock and I picked it up for less than $4500 so I don't think I did too bad. Let someone else take the hit for once.

Supporting a company when they're wrong gives them no incentive to do things right. There is no excuse for the way I have been treated as a customer while owning three H-Ds and four Buells- it makes no sense to stay in an abusive relationship. I have given them every opportunity to gain my loyalty and trust, but all I've gotten is spit in the face. It stops here.

I sincerely hope Erik Buell is able to resurrect the American Sportbike, and when he does he'll get my money, loyalty and trust. H-D can crawl away and die for all I care at this point- they've failed miserably and do not deserve an 8th chance. Good riddance.

I have lots of mixed feelings about H-D. I hate the actual company or at least its current administration, I hate a great deal of it's "image" riders, and I hate a lot of there current line at the moment.

How ever I grew up in a very pro harley family and have helped work on them since i was old enough to pick up a wrench. I also love the sound of an american v-twin. I also recognize they make a good quality built bike.

I also secretly lust over the xr1200 despite it being much less of a bike than a buell is I can't help it though it to me is what a sportster should be and I also love flat track racing so that also appeals to me, don't get me wrong I would never trade my buell for one but I do like them.

I also realize they make a really good touring bike and would love to travel the country on one.

I'll buy up the cheap stuff, and do some work to it. Someone else can take the hit on the resale.

Damn right!
I still want a CR! my girlfriend's mom has a Dyna that we can grab any time she wants to go for a cruise. She dosen't like the back of my XBR though.......

I went out for a quick spin before work today.

1. The bike ran great!
2. The steering is so light, it felt kinda squirley!
3. No windshield and beanie helmets don't mix!
4. It was cool to just cruise and take in the sights!

I had that discussion with her. Even after taking her for a ride today, she has no interest in riding her own. If she wanted to, I would get her something in a heartbeat (Blast, etc.). Shes just not into it.
I may just pick up a blast, and use it in hopes she will wanna try.

Time warp,1967. I was so infatuated with Sportsters that you could take the 5 most passionate Buell fans here and their combined lust would pale to my Sportster affliction.I never had any interest in big twins other than the 71 Sparkling America Super glide(that I now have had for several years after 30 years of wishing). My fondness has dulled over the years because of the phony, make believe owners and I simply don't want to be associated with that style of life.Currently,I have no use for H-d other than parts that can't be sourced anywhere else.......sorry,that's just the way it is. Nice Sportster, paint shaker.....................other than the forward controls. The older, the better. I wouldn't have a newer Sportster shoved up my ass................and I have room for two.I would be a happier man if I had kept my old Sportsters. It's been 11 years since I let go of a bike(72 Sportster). Hopefully I will stay that course........................./

Agree about the owners, for the most part. I bought a 2002 Road King last year for the express purpose of riding to Sturgis and thought I might well sell it when the experience was finished. Have I? Nope. Is it fast? Nope. Does it ride as well as it should for the money? Nope. Does it stop? Adequately. Does it handle? Surprisingly well. Whatever, that bike has grown on me more than I thought it would and I ride it a lot. Especially at night, as the headlights are superb. If I want to go fast I use the M2, and if I want to go retro and draw a crowd, I use the Snorton. I like the Road Pig.

Have to throw in a pic of my new road hawg just for poops and snickers. It's fun to ride if you're just out cruising and this thing pulls like a tractor. 2053cc's is just extreme.
