I was pulled over for a wheelie and speeding. The sheriff let me ride away with just a ticket and kept my out of jail. A big thanks is owed.

rolling to work two years ago, road was 45 mph, cautionary yellows were 25, I kept at 45. turned down a dirt road to shake any tales (clearing the baffles)....
and I pop back out to a sheriff at the other access road..... Rolled the lights and directed me to pull over.
Gave me a lecture about my riding and how at 7am I was having too much damn fun for him to deal with; got the warning to quit riding through his patrol area on Sunday mornings... it seems the neighbors had complained about the pipe.....
no ticket.

I met a nice New York State Trooper today. I say nice as 96 in a 55 with a warning is pretty damned nice, wouldn't you say?

Pulled into a gas station on the way to work one morning. Turned around, and two patrol cars are behind me, lights flashing (I wear earplugs). "License, registration, proof of insurance please - go ahead and pump your gas while we run this"...

Cop says: Do you know what a stop sign is?
I say: I think so.
Cop: Do you know what it is for?
Me: For stopping?
Cop: That's right, so why did you run three of them?
Me: Well officer, I approached the intersection at a rate of speed slower than a walk. I checked the intersection for oncoming traffic, then proceeded through in a safe and expedient manner.
Cop: Why didn't you put your foot down?
Me: <shrug>
Cop: OK - here's the deal: I ride motor patrol for XXXX City (I knew I was now in the clear), and you need to put your foot down at each stop from now on. Have a nice day, and how do you like the Buell?
Me: Want to take a spin?
Cop: Maybe some other time, have a good day.

Having some snow on the roof, as in being older than the cop, not riding Rice, and having a generally neutral attitude made the difference, I think.

Stopped twice in New Mexico, over twenty years ago.
LEO: why are you going so fast?
Me: I came to this great state to ride these beautiful roads and go fast: I'm on vacation.
LEO: be careful.
New Mexico remains the land of enchantment to me.

Coming home from March Badness 5.
After riding for 4 straight days and over 1500 miles in the rain, I come across the first stretch of dry pavement in North Carolina on I-75(I think). Not a car in sight, I opened it up on a long downhill straight bouncing off the rev-limiter. Come up over a rise, and there they were, about 6 of them, with radar and chase vehicles. Dang.

Trooper standing in the road points at me and I grab a HUGE handfull of brake and stop right in front of him. He's screaming at me "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU"RE DOING?! I took off my helmet and said "Just being stupid." I just knew I was going to jail.
After handing over the credentials to one of the other troopers, he starts checking out the Uly with this look like he's confused and says that's the craziest looking machine he's ever seen. I said thank you, sir. I wish I was the one who designed it.
He took the key and got in his car for what seemed like hours. When he came back, he says here's your ticket for going 72 in a 55, get the hell out of here and ride safe. I was doing well over 120 mph when they got me.

Uly - I used to live in N.C. One other story (not mine, but a good one). So State Representative Richard Petty is on the way to Raleigh, driving in the left lane. Comes up behind a left lane camper and high beams him. Dude flips off the King and stays in the lane. Petty decides to give him a little bump to let him know to get out of the way. Dude does just that. A little further down the road, Trooper pulls over Petty. Conversation goes something like this:

Mr Petty, did you bump that car back there?
Yes I did, the dumb sumbitch wouldn't get out of my way.
Now Mr. Petty, you know you can't do that on a public road..
Why not?

I don't think Sir Richard got a ticket that day either.

I was leading a group of 4 of us, me a Ducati, a Yamaha, and a HD. I pulled a right turn onto a road that goes left right away, makes for a great linking of turns for around here. He read me and the Ducati the riot act for going 67 in a 45 zone. He said the only reason he was letting us off is because we had the HD with us, so he knew we weren't riding like that the whole way.

Later the Duc rider was complaining because he knew we got going way faster than 67.

Residential area, speeding (43 in 35). Got to talking with the motor officer, talked about some LA County programs - including LA Sheriff's Racing - Drag and Motorcycle Road Racing, and after a few minutes - he finished the chit-chat, handed me the ticket and then allowed to how if I went to court, he wouldn't show up.

I went to court, he no-showed PRESTO - dismissed.

First motorcycle, first day of ownership, speeding home from just having purchased it.

Still had the bill of sale in my pocket.

No helmet (legal back then), t-shirt, shorts, sunglasses, 75+mph between stopped cars and *bam* through a red light.

Motor officer sitting... right... there...

I pulled over and waited for him, knowing I couldn't outrun the KZ1000. He gave me a lecture and sent me on my way.

Years ago on my '99 M2. Late for work, B-L-A-C-K skies with rain coming fast. Tucked in (on a Molten Orange bike with a race kit, mind you) and headed for work...at about a buck-ten. In a tuck for about 3 miles; popped up for my exit and saw lights in the mirror.

Whoops, heheh.

Wave to signal I saw him, pull into the median for my left across oncoming traffic (4 lane divided). He keeps me right there. I see him exit the vehicle, off goes the ignition and up goes the visor, hands in view, sidestand down.

"License and registration please. You know how fast you were going back there?"
"No sir, just trying to beat the rain was all. Not the best choice, I know.."

In his car forEVER. I'm standing next to his cruiser, next to my motorcycle (he asked me to dismount), no helmet on at this point.

Starts raining. HARD. There I stand.

He rolls down the window - "you can get in the car, son".

"um...front seat, or back seat?"

"you can get in the front".

Get in. "I didn't get radar on you, but it took me a long time to catch you. You didn't stop for over a mile, probably because you were tucked in and your head was in front of your mirrors. But...you changed lanes back there and the car behind you had to hit its brakes. Here's your citation for Unsafe Lane Change. If you send in the white copy, signed here, here, and here, and include payment, you will receive a fine with no points. If you send in the green copy, you will be summoned for a trial with the possibility of guilt including a fine, court fees, and penalty points."

"So...I should send in the white copy?"

<sigh> "*IF* you choose to send in the white copy..."

"Got it. White copy. No problem. Thank you sir."

Although...I *did* have a shadow the rest of the way to work....

Trooper seen me hauling down from 90 to a stop sign as he passed by. He kept on going. Cross traffic held me up and he was near a half mile away when I crossed the road. Watched for him for a mile at 55mph and he never showed. Ran up to 110 for about a half mile and slowed for a intersection........and there he was in my mirror when I was at about 65. He simple had to have had me at 110 on radar and he had to be booking to catch up to me so quickly. Followed me for a painful three miles at 55 and lit me up when I got in town. Didn't ask for ANY papers, just two verbal warnings. One for running hard and one for passing him the week before in his personal car. Slow it down...........and it was done.I didn't even get my helmet off. I figure the full gear(rare around here),lunch bucket and work uniform strapped to the back help save me.

97 in a 25... Let me explain. I work at an airport and there is a never populated road leading up to the tower, I had just gotten my 1125 and wanted to see if I could hit a 100 and back down to 25mph in the short stretch. I did no problem, actually hit about 104 but by the time he clocked me I had it down some. It was 7am and no one was around he didn't even ask for my license, ins or reg just cracked a smile and said "Have fun but be safe!". Also helps I have National Guard plates, between that and a military ID I have gotten out of numerous tickets (a lot of cops are ex GI's). But he was right. We can have our fun just don't hurt anyone.

Cheers,

Back when I had a hopped up '72 Nova SS, I was about a block from work coming around a corner sideways with the tires smoking. There was a cop at the other end of the block who stopped his car and just pointed at me through his open window as I went by. He was still stopped as I pulled into the work parking lot right on the corner.

My first ticket excessive speed in a school zone. I was doing 50+ in a s curve on a bennelli panther 125 2smoke. I was late to school officer stopped me walking into school. He went to court and said I don't usually drive like that. My mom in the mini skirt talked to the judge on my behalf. $1.00 + court cost! Mom was a looker.

coming back from Daytona this year. 83 in a 65.

Told the cop I really meant no disrespect, but I was hoping that he and I wouldn't meet that day... he laughed.

He asked me how fast I was going, I said 80... he said I had you at 83... and he was fix'n to write me...
Before he could walk away, I went into the "I'm a safety instructor" blah blah blah...

He got me for equipment failure.... I need to get the speedo checked out... LOL

No points... no problem

The day after i bought my X1 i got pulled over by and undercover DEA agent. I came down the freeway on ramp and ripped on the throttle and took it to 130 mph and i heard this whistle sound and i didn't see any cops but i thought i better slow down. So i did and i got behind a mini van and was going the speed limit when an unmarked car pulled me over. I had no insurance,no registration I was going 130. I thought for sure i was going to jail. He hopped out of his car and gave a lecture and informed me that he wasn't taking me to jail or impounding the bike. He even said he wasn't even going to give a ticket?????????

He said you are lucky i am not highway patrol......Those guys ticket and prosecute everybody.

So i thanked the officer and apologized that he had to work on a Sunday and he replied don't be sorry it's the best day to catch people like you doing stupid stuff!

Another time i was riding a little kawi ninja 250 and was going as fast as it would go 95 mph on the freeway and this cop pulled me over and started screaming at me for speeding. I said sorry i couldn't hear what you were saying\yelling i had my earphones in. Then he yells what the hell do you have headphones on? I said i have a long commute to work and i like music.

He said you know what....I don't want to hear your bullshit ass excuse's and i don't need to be out here on the side of the highway lecturing a grown man!! Now get the hell out of here now! NO ticket yes.

Time one I was going home from Ft Hood TX to Lake Charles La around christmas time. I was in my car not on my bike well I got pulled over and the cop asked for my license and insurance and then he asked me why I was driving threw his town so fast. While I was handing my license to him I handed him my military id on accident. I also told him I just got back from Iraq so he told me he was going to escort me to the end of the city limits.

Time two Me and my wife was in Lake Charles and we went to the casino well I had a drink or two but was in no way buzzed or drunk or anything as it had been at least an hour or two since I drank them. Well I have a rather loud stereo system in my blazer and a cop pulled behind me so I told my wife to turn it down, when I did she turned it up not down and it startled me so I swerved when I did the cop light me up. So I pulled over and then the cop asked me for the usual stuff then he asked me if I had been drinking and I was honest then he asked me that I had a few but it was earlier that night. Then he asked me if my wife had a license which she did then he asked me to go behind the car and asked if I could take the test and i told him yes. then he walked to his car then came back and told us to switch drivers and have a nice night with no test.

A few months ago I was on my way to work in my car and got pulled over for 53 in a 35 just before the on-ramp to the highway. I accidentally handed the officer my insurance card for the Buell and after a few minutes discussing motorcycles, he let me off with a warning. Seems he was a fan of Buell as well... or just an extremely nice and lenient guy.

Heading back to Suchas from the Dragon, wife on the back, Rubberdown beside me on his 9r. Hit this really sweet up sweeping left hander. We are hitting prolly 85-90 mph. I see Mike hit the brakes and at that moment a white camaro with cherries on top comes around the corner. Well I get on the binders, But mike riding solo gets on them harder and starts to pull over, into my lane. Well there just happens to be a shoulder that is flat enough that I didn't have to think about hitting it, I just stayed on the brakes and road it off road onto the grass. Well by the time I get stopped and look over at Mike, the Camaro is sitting beside us. The cop shakes his head and just drives off!!! I guess he figured we scared ourselves enough and was smart enough to stop and not run.

The other end of the spectrum is catching cops on their cop bikes doing stuff wrong, like a local cop riding with his headlight off, (I pointed it out to him at the next available stop light), stopping well into the crosswalk, and riding on the sidewalk to get around to the next driveway at the cop station.....Nobody's perfect...

a week or so after I got the buell I went for what soon became my regular night ride

on my way back home going by an empty mall with empty streets at about 65-70 in a 55 nobody was in sight, after the mall area ends the speed limit drops to 45 than 35 in a very short section of road. everything was empty and clear in my lane so I just keep it in 5th and the throttle barely cracked instead of touching the brakes and let the speed drop of slowly.
as I came up the road a cop pulls out of a 24hr coffee shop going the other way on a divided road. his lights come on and I have a brief moment where I hope he is making another call as I grab the brakes, nope because he hits me with his ally light.
I was just getting into the left turn lane at an intersection 4 blocks from home and decided to just wait for him there.
he turns around and pulls up to the intersection in the right turn lane. he clicks off the alley light as he comes to a stop gives me a smile and points to show that I have a green light.

maybe it was the full gear or maybe it was just my lucky night.
because my woman would have killed me!

Couple weeks ago, petethekiller and I were riding Hogback road from the outskirts of OKC to go eat at Pop's on Rt 66. Coming through Jones, the road is straight as an arrow with a 25mph speed limit, then right before leaving city limits there is a long sweeper with a 35mph limit, jumping again to 45mph as soon as you come out of the corner.

Anyway I was on my XT, Pete on his CR, and we both hammered on the throttle just as we passed the 35mph sign going into the corner. Went through the corner at a very spirited pace, and before I had the bike upright again I saw flashing lights from a VERY good hiding spot at the corner exit. By the time I looked down at the speedometer I was just slowing down through 80mph, not sure how fast we were going in the corner.

Anyway, the cop got out of his car yelling "You think that's funny!?"
Neither of us thought it was funny..

After an an eternity of letting us bake in 103* heat and riding gear on the side of the road, we got let off with a warning.

Still not sure why neither of us got tickets..

32 years old in 1975 a Chippy on a Kopasoki pulled up next to me at a light on Redondo Beach Blvd. I told him I had one like his at home. He told me he had a chopper at home too. I was riding my newly built '62 Panhead hardtail suicide clutch wide glide, bare armed and no helmet with hair halfway down my back. We were going the same way [Artesia Fwy] so I asked him if he would pace me and call out the speeds so I would have an idea what a legal 55 felt like. Who needs a speedo or front fender? He went in 5 mph steps all the way up to 85, then waved to me and split. The citizens on the fwy must have thought I was undercover.

Back in my '72 Nova I was at a stop light next to a cop in his cruiser, warm day with windows down. The cop starts trying to get me to race him. NFW! He wouldn't have had a chance drag racing against that Nova and I have no idea what he would have done when he lost. Either way I saw no benefit to showing a cop what my car could do. I'm not sure that story counts as leniency, but it was pretty funny at the time.
