Has anyone else noticed that the two announcers on the TV coverage NEVER say Buell? Even when they deem to mention Geoff May, they never say what here's riding. What's up with that. Buell is the ONLY American bike in the race. It is American Superbike series, should the American bike get some kudos? The fact that it s single bike, essentially privateer team and finishing in the top ten be worth praising not ignoring?

I've got several theories, but figured I'd ask here first.

The bike is not a production bike anylonger.... thats the truth of it anyways

Not sure of that one. The Buell is still allowed in the class, so why couldn't the name be said on the air. They do slip up and Say Buell. I heard it the last race, but you are right typically they avoid saying Buell.

that being said, a couple races ago there was a "spotlight" piece done on the Buell during the race--that was cool and sorta goes against the Buell conspiracy theory.

But for sure any kudos or explanation to the casual fan of what the OP stated is being overlooked. Also, throw in the fact the Buell is SO down on HP, but still finishing top-10 also.

It was a production bike last year....

So, bikes from the past are not allowed in the race? Just curious.....If someone wanted to run a past Yamaha that is not being produced anymore, they couldn"t? REX

Whether a bike is in production or not has nothing to do with whether it is legal for AMA Pro Racing. So you can run a 2008 Suzuki GSXR in AMA Superbike if you want. However the fact that Buell isn't going to buy advertising might matter to some people. NHRA coverage almost never mentions that riders are on Buells, but they always say Andrew Hines is on a Harley. Who knows? But they did talk a good bit about the Buell in the AMA Road America coverage as Fresno noticed.

For all practical purposes Suzuki wasn't a production bike in 2010. Follow the money.

I sure don't

You seem to be saying that a homologated 2010 production machine should not be allowed to race in 2010 AMA Superbike.

Or are you just reminding us that there as yet is no 2011 Buell production superbike?

How can that be? Note opening statement, the word "seem" and then the closing question.

I have no idea what your point was. Really.

Back on topic...

I agree, the silence on SpeedTV concerning the controversy surrounding HDI's killing off of Buell is astounding. I guess they don't have any real journalists there. I'd have figured that Dave Despain would have dug into the story, got Steve Anderson and Wandel on the show. He should.

If Geoff had been able to stay on the track and run in the top five, he and the Erik Buell Racing effort would have been tough to continue ignoring.

SpeedTV never seems to not disappoint.

Those are all what if's Blake. There not Honda,Suzuki or Yamaha. I can see this will go nowhere also have a good day. I have to much on my plate in my life to go round circles with you. You think what you like and so will I.

I wouldn't say they've been completely ignoring Geoff. They have mentioned him and they've mentioned the Buell . . . but they certainly haven't given the kind of attention the story deserves.

Just look at it this way: When's the last time a non-Japanese, non-Ducati has run in the top 10 of AMA Superbike?

Isn't that, by itself, newsworthy and worth more of a mention than they have given?

Just wondering what you were "getting at". I have no idea. Thought you might explain.

I guess you forgot. No big deal. I forget stuff all the time, and I don't even have any children. ; )

Didn't forget.... I said the bike isn't produced anylonger. Pretty much sums up why the bike isn't talked about. And like it was mentioned no advertising money is coming there way. Corporate crap but thats the way it the ball bounces. And why are you bring my kids in this???? I'm done with this. Your comment was totally uncalled for.

Thanks for the explanation. The exact opposite is true at least from a viewer interest perspective, huge story of an American underdog never quiting and now showing much promise in the premiere class. IDIOTIC to ignore it. Miserable really.

I agree that advertising money is the likely factor responsible for SpeedTVs deafening silence on the issue. It's pretty disappointing. Someday Erik's story is going to make for a killer movie. : )

Lighten up Dana. No one is saying ANYTHING about your children. WTF???

Steve Natt on Cycle World Radio is giving us great coverage. I'm working my way through two years of podcasts.
