No wonder everything is SO expensive any more. Everything you buy is 100 % labor. All the material came out of the ground at some point for free.(think about it)

Froggy,

That my friend is a bulletin. Not a recall. Meaning if the truck does rust they may buy it back.LOL Toyota does not send those letters out. If a customer brings a truck in with that problem and Toyota has a dealer bulletin they pertaining to that car or truck it will be looked at by a toyota rep. after the dealer makes a claim for it. He or She from Toyota has to make the approval first. And Wow!!!! Toyota should be flat broke and out of business buying there own trucks back at 150%.lol I just called a service writer friend that has been there for many years. She got a kick out of that one. GM should of been doing that all along.lol

Oh, and Kc10_fe, my hat's off to you! You've got two scarey jobs there. What do you do for fun, get shot out of a cannon?

If by cannon you mean an 1125R yes.

I really dont have to do much for fun beside hunting fish and riding. Ever been 20 ft away from a $2 billion bomber loaded with nukes while traveling 320MPH across the planet?

Fun can be a 3 ship KC-10 formation with F-15 F-18 & B-1s that left you full of bombs and all come back empty and low on gas....

why do you people hate American workers?
Why do you believe American works should work for less?
Do I hear a tone of jealousy?
Unions made Americans lazy? Sorry, but I bust my @ss everyday to do my job and do it perfect. I'm in a Union. Are you accusing me of being lazy? Funny. When I work from 6am until 3pm, usually without a break or lunch.
Then the scab trade members show up, oh around 8am. Work until 11am. Take a lunch till 12:30pm, then leave by 2pm. Now tell me who's lazy.
A lot of people here seem rather Anti American. Glad you side with the people that fcked this Country up. Glad you support the people that are outsourcing YOUR jobs. Pathetic really.

What I resent is the gall of these f*cking people, who are paid BY TAXES LEVIED ON INDIVIDUALS AND CORPORATIONS, going on strike to receive a 5% compounded pay increase at a time when the people from whom these taxes are extorted are having to tighten their belts just to get by.

Who the F*CK do they think they are?

I think the jobs of these folks who have seen their incomes shrink during this time should get the jobs that these folks seem not to appreciate.

Better yet, freeze their incomes at current levels and take the 5% compounded pay increases for the 100,000 employees involved in this negotiation and give a tax decrease to everyone, union and non-union.

This is Chicago bull$hit politics at it's worst.

American Airlines Mechs and Flight attendant might strike. After 9-11 they agreed to take a 20+% pay cut to keep the company operating. Now that the company is in the black again 9 years later they still dont have contracts that restored anything they they had before then. Not to mention the retirements thay had are fooked.

You should see company profits if they thinks these guys make too much. Laborers do the work many of you would consider work for illegals.

Those laborers must be the highest paid in the US at 30 an hour. I dont have the link but that seems very high for them.

Current wages range from $35.20 an hour for laborers to $45.10 an hour for operating engineers, according to the Mid-America Regional Bargaining Association.

Maybe those "illegals" aren't so dumb after all.

I'd like to know the American holding out for better pay and leaving these gigs to the illegals willing to do the jobs "Americans won't do".

The strike will affect workers working on road construction, bridge repair, sewer and water improvement projects in ten counties in the Chicago metropolitan area.

They represent workers in both the public and private sectors performing a wide range of construction activities, including road construction, environmental remediation, demolition, building construction, concrete placement, sewer & water work, and many others.

Not everyone makes that in that union. Maybe the select few. Guys clearing shit off a construction site could only dream to make $35 an hour.

Operating engineers operate sky cranes and outside lifts on high rise buildings. They also run all the big bulldozers and equipment and fix them . Thats skilled work.

Those big numbers for the laborers represent a small percentage of that entire union. Most of those guys would give a nut up for $25 an hour.

When given a "range" we can only assume that the wages in question are between those two numbers.

I was reminded this week why I have never bought a GM product. I drove a Denali mid to late 2000-ish and while it had some cool features and I liked some of the interior layout it rattled like spray can. Interior materials and fasteners were cheap and not designed to last. This one had about 80,000 miles on it.

So GM rightly on its deathbed gets saved by the people who didnt want to save it. Iam proud to buy American when the product is good but I wont support sub par products or any vehicle made by the UAW.

Of course, they bought THEIR trucks back at 150% of the Blue Book.

If you bought a truck for $20,000 and they bought it 5 years later, and the Blue Book was $4,000, you got $6,000.

The post made it sound like you "got your money back X 1.5".

I've seen folks . . when HD buys a bike back . . that don't know they deduct the mileage at some fixed rate.

Guy in 1996 rode, and beat the piss out of, his S2 and finally made a stink and "made" them buy it back. The day came and they took his title and handed him a check for like $3,200. The look on his face was priceless.

Details matter.

Its interesting that Walmart and Chicago Unions right now are fighting over wages. Walmart wants in Chicago and the Unions don't want them there because they will not pay the higher Union wages. Minimum wage in Illinois is 7.75 for under 18 and 8.25 for 18 and over. The Unions are "telling " Walmart what the minimum wage can be in the Chicagoland stores and if Walmart does not agree.....Chocago will remain Walmart free. The City of Chicago is urging the two to come to terms because it will mean a lot of added jobs to the Metro area.

From what we have seen in our area it has also hurt surrounding smaller business because they cannot compete. So the result is loss in jobs as well.

This is true. I work retail and when super walmart opened we worked hard to hold our part of the business. I am def not a walmart lover, I just find it interesting they are bargaining with the Unions.
They have actually closed more than retail businesses. They demand that companies like Norge, Roadmaster sell them air conditioners, bikes at lower prices, then when they decide to go with another company for these products...these companies (local to our area)closed shop because their earnings were down so much they couldn't make it.

The success of the "big box" stores is due to one thing and one thing only......they can drive downs costs by ruthless business practices.

A co-worker's brother owns a local independent bass bait company (he molds plastic worms)...he tried to get with walmart about selling his products...the deal, if he was dumb enough to have gone through with it, would have put his gross profit at 16% per lot unit...with an overhead of 22%...do the math.

The plastic worms sold in walmart under brand label (X) are not the same as the otherwise at first glance identical products for sale at a regular bait and tackle store...the WW worms contain less plastic and will be one or two items short as compared to a regular retail package.

As long as the vast majority of the population place price above all else, the trend will continue.

+1 on Fast.. Wal-Marts cutthroat anti-competive practices aren't good, nor is how they treat their workers. Not being a liberal blowhard about their worker policies, I worked for WalMart for a long time. They suck!

I'm usually 100% pro-union, as most of my family and extended have been union workers for years (construction, HVAC, steamfitters, etc) but I've seen some unions get too power hungry. Wish we could balance between company's health AND taking care of the workforce. But whatever, i don't got the answers

There have ALWAYS been "big box" stores. Before Wal-Mart it was Sears and Roebuck. Before Sears and Roebuck, it was Woolworths.

The larger you can grow a retail chain, the greater the economies of scale.

I don't shop at Wal-Mart. Not because I don't like the company, but because I don't like the shopping experience. I shop at Target generally. It's close to my house. I pay a little more, but it's worth it to me.

The success of "small box" stores is NOT dependent upon the absence of "big box" stores. The success of small retailers is in providing VALUE. Unique products. Unique shopping experiences. Unique expertise. Unparalleled service.

If you, as a small retailer, do this right, you can open a second location and a third and a 50th. Then YOU become a "big box" retailer.

Wal-Mart was once the Waltons 5 and dime.

Big Box stores don't just spring up over night. EVERY big box store was once a mom and pop competing with whatever big box store there was at the time.

Agreed Fat. I work at an IGA store. IGA may seem like a chain, but it is not. Each store is owned individually unless the same owner has more than one. (We have 3, plus 2 Save-a-Lots).

We planned for 3 years when we heard the Superstore was coming to town. We did well, but not without losing 5 full-time bodies. We have 220 employees now but only 80 are full-time, the rest are part-time. What we can offer is better than minimum wage and flexible hours. They love us because they can get off for all their ballgames, their grandkids ballgames, their bunko nights, poker afternoons and trips to 6 flags.

There is a book out about how the box stores treat their employees and their suppliers but I cannot remember the name of it now. I just know that I hire at the IGA I work at and the local Walmart ends up hiring the employees I pass on. We are pretty picky. We insist upon quality employees to go along with our quality services. www.martinsiga.com I am assigned to the EFFINGHAM Store. (There are 220 at the Effingham store. THe other stores are small and have abot 50 employees each).

Like I said Froggy. Letters did not go out to customers they went to the dealers. Thats called communication. If a customer see's that they have a problem or the dealer see's a problem they will take action. No such letter went out to the consumer. Out of my six.... 3 were Tacoma's. They did not send a letter to me at my residence or address it to my Business either. Funny I think you might of been 8 or 9 years old when I bought my first one. lol

Bads1, here is a link from Toyota stating "Owners will be notified by first class mail beginning mid-March 2008"

http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota/TYT20080 30714643.aspx

Owners were sent letters, my neighbor got one. He doesn't use the internet, so it wouldn't of found out about it online like me.

As for why you didn't get the letter, I couldn't say. Most likely that your vehicles didn't fall in the affected range.

That explains that the letter wasn't sent till 2008. My trucks fall in those years. But it does state that all trucks are not effected. Some may not have adequate rust proofing. Froggy your really reaching to make Toyota a bad company.lol That is a company taking care of its customers. GM trucks were all rust buckets in the 90's. You like what you like give it a break. Wal-Mart has changed very much since Sam Walton was running it, and I don't mean the number of stores they have open. Am I the only one who remembers walking into a Wal-Mart store and seeing a large banner somewhere near the front of the store proclaiming how many American jobs were created by the products they were selling? I don't recall the last time I saw a sign like that. Just try and find anything in a Wal-Mart made in America.

Comparing Sears to Wal-Mart is not a valid comparison in my opinion. Sears has tried to portray some level of quality in at least some of their products. Wal-Mart is driven by one thing only, price. It has worked very well for them, but I believe it has been bad for our country.

For a time in high school many years ago I worked at a Wal-Mart. It was not a good experience.

And finally, I saw many small businesses close within a few years of Wal-Mart coming to town. The ones I missed most were the hardware stores where you could talk to someone who knew about what they were selling. You could go in with a pipe or a switch and they would know what it went on, where it was in the store, how to install it, and if there was anything unusual it would be nice to know. Now they are gone. Good luck getting that kind of help at Wal-Mart.

Ok, I'm off my soapbox now.
