We had a house get struck just across the park from our house this AM. The strike was about the loudest thing I've ever heard. I've been closer to other strikes, but never heard one this loud before. The firemen broke through the wall into the attic up where the basket is from the H&L truck. I understand nobody was home. They are going to have a nasty surprise when they get home! At leas nobody got hurt and the home was saved.   This one is the view from our back yard.  | ||

About a month ago I watched a bolt strike a transformer on a poll as I was driving down the road. Crazy, awesome and scary all at the same time. | ||

I've seen transformers blow from lightning strikes from miles away and as near as right across the street. They always make a great show! | ||

This is the craziest lightning strike I've ever seen.  Blew the door sheet metal right off. Bet that got this drivers attention. | ||

That looks like a lot of damage on the airplane. I've seen that on cars that have been hit before, but not with that many pits. Was that from numerous strikes? | ||

one strike. that was the exit Its a carbon fiber aircraft so it disperses it out in a million paths. The other wingtip looked the same. Aluminum aircraft will burn one big hole. | ||

Had a transformer hit about 20 yards in front of my Jeep as I was leaving work one day, made a nice fireball. When I worked at an amusement park in college we had a tour bus take a strike in the parking lot and blew the entire right rear wheel and compressor off the bus. It was amazing no one was hurt. | ||

Got home from work one day opened the garage door and there was wood chips all over the floor of my garage. What the.... I looked up and there was a big hole in the roof! It grounded through the metal garage door! | ||

that pic with the door blown off, the door on a sterling is not even sheet metal, its fiber glass, i have seen people clip the door jamb of the service bay with a mirror and peel the door skin right off, they were kinda cheap. i stood up into the corner of one with my head and managed to crack the door, although i still needed 3 staples, haha | ||

I was riding my XB on a hazy, hot and humid summer afternoon day sitting at a traffic light when a bolt of lightning came out of the blue and struck the telephone pole on the roadside. It looked as if God took a sledgehammer to the top of the pole as it bulged and exploded raining wood down all over me. Needless to say, I proceeded to run the red light and make my way home, hastily. | ||

Why did you think he missed??  Thats what a buddy of mine said when he witnessed a lightning strike. That God missed and he wasn't waiting around for him to reload. | ||

I've seen several big strikes. Last couple were into a tree just outside. It was tremendous...flaming tree bark and embers everywhere. Two USB ports on the computer, a DVD player, and a TV got fried due to some current going through the cable wire. That sucker has a surge protector now...though it's said they're of little help with a solid strike. The most impressive have been seeing a couple transformers blow. TV no worky  Worst one was a young Marine recruit that got killed out on the rifle range at Parris Island in 1995. I was in the pits while these guys were on the march. I heard and saw the offending bolt, but from what people described, it was best not to be there firsthand. After that the range went cold at the first sight of lightning. My mother has had several near strikes while walking in the rain...only when by herself. I don't think she's gone outside in the wet for many years. | ||

My Freightliner cab at work is entirely fiberglass. I found that out when attempting to find a spot for the magnetic antenna for Sirius. I was surprised. | ||

I live along what is called the I-4 corridor between tampa and orlando...we have a lot of lightning strikes...they play a part in our business income....afternoon t/storm takes out an A/C unit...it is usually too messed up it repair....instant equipment sale. I think we stand #2 worldwide for the most lightning strikes per square mile...a lot of people get killed because they either don't know what to do or are just plain stupid. We train and train at work about lightning safety...the ol' "bolt out of nowhere" can and does happen here. There can be a t/storm miles away that seems to pose no threat at all...that can generate lightning bolts 10 miles away. | ||

Yeah...I live just around the corner from Fast. He's right! This area is crazy when a storm hits or is brewing. Before the neighborhood next to me was built it was a cow pasture. I remember when I was younger playing basketball at the end of our street. It was beautiful in our area but black as night towards the east side more in Fast's area. A bolt struck in that cow pasture next to us. I'd make Jordan look bad I jumped so high in the air. | ||
