As usual the ABC media is less than truthful in their headline. The truth is on page 2.

"The money for the project comes from the Federal Highway Administration and must be used for Federal Transportation Enhancement programs."

Do you think there might be a better way to spend your federal tax dollars?

The chipmunks are apparently capable of earning their own upkeep in the recording industry.

I think you're supposed to stir-fry tree rats with okra.

Tree rats are dark meat and its tough and chewy.

Skin the head and deep fry the skulls(you need about a dozen per serving)then use a nutcracker to get the brains out.

Dipped in ranch dressing....Quite Yummy.

what is worse.... that they wrote a grant for 1.25 M to protect squirrels from road kill.... or that your federal f-ing government PAID for it.

Hats off to them for getting squirrel cam up for 1.25 mill. Pity they couldnt do something about immigration though

As a Brit, when I was a kid squirrels were red, here in mainland Europe they still are.

Unfortunately in the UK red squirrels are quite rare these days as they've been ethnically cleansed by the American Grey Squirrel which is larger & more aggressive than his red cousins.

Nature imitating life? or the other way round?

I'd say be happy your tax dollars are being spent on something worthwhile such as helping save a species from extinction.

I mean it's not as if it's really a huge amount of money, I suspect your government spends more than that on security every day for your president & his family. Especially when they feel like going to do the things "normal" people do. Like shopping (close the street), or going to the theatre (close the whole block).

41 rope bridges at a total cost of $400,000. Wow. This must be a feat of engineering. $10,000 each to put a rope across 2 trees.

I never went to school for civil engineering, but I am pretty sure I can come up with a more cost effective solution.

Grumpy's just mad 'cause his native squirrels are apparently wussies. I bet they wear monocles and have tea time.

We used to have "Tufty" a Red squirrel as a road safety campaigner when I was a kid.

Here's one of the original clips.

Innes- Interesting about the squirrels in the UK.

Here in the southeastern U.S. we've got mostly gray squirrels, but lately the "fox" squirrels seem to be making a comeback. They were rare when I was a kid and pretty much non-existent most of my life, but I've seen 2 or 3 in the past year. A fox squirrel is approximately 50% bigger than a gray squirrel:
