Ok, so it is time to purchase the next firearm... I am looking at the H&K P2000 (40 S&W)... open the review boards I would like to stick with the .40 cal, so let me hear what you think. Compare and contrast... suggestions? Thanks | ||

Not really familiar with the H&K. I am very happy with the Springfield Armory XD(m) that I got a few months back on the recommendation of a BadWeber. I've got a 9mm, but they also are available in .40 cal. One of the things I really like about the XD is that it requires very little thinking to operate when you are really under stress and need it to work first trigger pull. No manual safety to manipulate, just the safeties built into the back strap and trigger. I feel pretty comfortable with a round chambered ready to go just like picking up a revolver. Holds 19 + 1 in 9mm, not sure about .40 cal. The trigger feels just a bit gritty, but has gotten a bit better with more shooting. If you plan on using it for competition shooting there are reasonable priced upgrades readily available. Mine is for self defense and the trigger is fine for that purpose. I prefer not to modify a gun that is for self defense. It uses a 3 dot sighting system that I really like and night sights are available. It also has a rail to mount a light/laser if you want to. It's shown itself to be reliable with all the ammo I've fed it so far. What are the things that you like about the P2000? | ||

I guess it all depends on what your looking for. H&K is an all out high quality piece for a great price. I can't make comparisons here because it's all a matter of shooter preference. It all depends what shape of firearm feels good in your hand. I would suppose you go and shoot one and get back to us........  I myself have never shot an H&K. Reviews on them are certainly positive. I suppose I didn't help at all. If you can, try one................ya never know..... | ||

Actually Gunut what you said is right on target (pun intended). I think the choice can be narrowed by comparing features that you find important and general feel of the gun at the gun counter. Then pick a few to rent at a range if you can. I think the first thing is to determine exactly what you want the gun for. Home defense? Concealed carry? Target? Action shooting? Everything is a compromise in engineering anything. It's all about finding the set of compromises that fit your criteria. | ||

Thank you all so far! I am thinking about: ~ reliability and accuracy as for use: first - Home Defense second- carry third - days out at the range for fun I will have to try to make it to a range that rents both and see what they everything feels like. Any other comparisons or suggestions to look into? Thanks again. | ||

The XD(m) is available in a 3.8 inch barrel in .40 cal. I think it's still a bit big for carry, but doable. It would fit your other criteria pretty well though. Check out Gun Genie for good prices. We have a local shop that gives pretty good deals that way. It has some of the benefits of mail order (not that you can mail order guns) while keeping business in a local shop. Our local shop actually recommends buying through them that way. | ||

Sifo, I shop the same way, my gun dealer goes through davidsons (gun genie) and they have never let me down. I would recommend this type of shopping to anyone in the firearm market. | ||

H&K, i have heard nothing but good reviews... video game or not, I have read that the P2000 is a stable, reliable and kick-ass firearm. Besides the XDm, are there any other super reliable semi-auto pistols, that you would trust? | ||

I have the H&K USP Compact .40 and really like it. That said, had the Barretta PX4 Storm been available in .40, I probably would have bought that. Shot both and really liked the Barretta better but wanted .40. Are you looking for CC? | ||

If it fits you the H&K is hard to beat. One way to see if a pistol fits you well. Stand five feet or so from s mirror and close your eyes. Bring the pistol up into the sighting position. Now open your eyes. If you are looking down the barrel, or better yet directly down the sights, the pistol fits you well. Custom grips may or may not improve this fit. G | ||

40 S&W ? Can't decide myself if it's a good or bad thing. When I go into WallyWorld to get ammo, no 22, 32, 380, 38, 357, 9mm. But always a ton of 40 S&W...........................  | ||

Quite a few of my fellow patriots arm themselves with H&K firearms. I've never heard a single complaint. I am quite partial to the SP89 in 9mm with foregrip and folding stock. It slings up nicely under the arm and won't show under a waistcoat. It is brought to bear quite rapidly and delivers a 4 inch grouping from 25 feet, at a peppy 700 rounds per minute. And it won't go through your neighbor's walls. | ||

Ft bastard.... It is funny that you bring up the PX4 Storm, that is the other gun that I was looking at. I have been yearning after the Beretta for years now, I just cant find one in a .40. So I started looking around and found the H&K P2000, and see that its reviews are top notch! I wish I could find a range that would allow me to shoot the PX4 Storm, there isnt a range near me that has beretta's to rent. About the .40, I want something with more stopping power than a 9mm, but cheaper than the .45 cal. So the .40 meets the demand. I will have to make it to the local gun shop and "test fit" me some pistolos! | ||

I like my PX4. I "tried on" quite a few, and actually had the intention on getting a Glock, but the PX4 just felt right. I wouldn't count out the 9mm because of "stopping power". I can hold 20 rounds of Federal HST 9mm +P 124gr, which I trust will get the job done. | ||

The .40 PX4 isn't slated until 2011. The PX4 felt better to me and I liked the customizable grips. Like you, I wanted the .40 for the same reasons you did, something between 9mm and .45. I also looked at the 10mm, but the cost and availability of ammo reduced it's attractiveness. | ||

I went to the local bass pro and played until they closed and I was the last person standing in the shop, chatting with all of the employees in the area. I held 5 or 6 different .40 cal pistols, from all different manufactures. I am going to have to say, the choices that I was looking at (Beretta and H&K) are absolutely wonderful firearms. Comfortable and well built. Purely because the availability of the .40 cal of the H&K, I think that is the way that I will end up going. Thanks yall. *Oh and does anyone know anything about how H&K has unique features? - take its accessory rail and its custom size? | ||

Really like my 9mm XD and enjoyed the 40 as well; you wouldn't regret going that route. I know you're wanting to stick with forty-cal--I was too when I picked up my Springfield--but the pricepoint and options of 9mm got me in the end. There are some great frangible or hollow-point rounds that do the trick pretty efficiently. Sorry, dead horse, I know... By the way, if you haven't put a couple hundred through one yet, the Kel-Tec P11 and sub-compact XD are a great carry option and more fun than I ever imagined. | ||

I like the berretta px4 too. If you are considering that you may look at the FNP45. I have an XD45 but would really like a walther pps. | ||

I also have a Beretta px4 storm 9mm in the sub-compact version. I have put about 200 rounds through it so far. It is really a nice feeling weapon. It fits my hand great (comes with 3 backstraps), is plenty accurate, and easily concealable. I was also looking at all the other pistols mentioned here. The storm just felt better in my hand. I believe they are coming out with a compact version soon, also. Mine holds 13 rounds but a full size mag will fit giving you up to 20 in 9mm. | ||

i had an xd-40 and absolutely loved it. i put many thousands of trouble free rounds through it. i sold it with the intentions to get the xdm-40. (the next cool thing right?) headed out to the gun store to check em out. after i fondled several models i came home with the s&w m&p-40. the thing just felt good. the xdm felt chunky in the hand. i could not be happier! what a fine piece! i recommend you check it out along with the others. total reliability so far ( bout 2,000 rounds as of now) and it's just as accurate as the xd i had, it's a fine fighting pistol. **by the way, i was NEVER a fan of s&w autos. matter of fact i really didn't like them at all! but they finally got it right with the m&p in my opinion. not to take anything from hk though for sure. my dad has a usp-40 compact. it's bad a! but that thing was $900 and i got the m&p for $480. both same reliability but his is a little sexier | ||
