what do you do when you know some people are about to be fired..... ....and they have no clue. I can't say anything... It just sucks knowing and I'll be glad when its finally over. | ||

They'll need a friend in the next couple of days and months. Go to coffee if they want, find ways to keep in contact. Eventually, they'll quit returning calls when they've moved on. | ||

fired or laid off. if their getting fired than they did somthing wrong. if it's a lay off then depending on what kind of business your in, getting laid off is just part of the job. it sucks but it isn't the end of the world. and if any of them are true friends, they'll stay in touch. if not oh well. i'm laid off again and there was nothing i could do about it so i'm not worried. Friendship doesn't play into it so much... and the people being let go, should have been let go a long time ago.... the problem I am having is wondering what they will do to earn a living.... Its hard to explain... I like talking to them and so on but if it was my business they would have been let go a long time ago.... I mean... when you are in sales.. ya need to have a positive tude I feel like I may want to take the pistola to work with me on Friday.... | ||

it might not hurt to do that mark. if they should have been let go, then they have issues that they need to deal with. back when i was playing carpenter(for over 20 years) i stuck around till the end of the jobs in most cases because of my work ethics. most of the other times i quit and on a few occasions i got let go for stupid stuff. i never got let go for not trying to do a good job though. one thing i learned a long time ago is, you can't be working partners and friends at the same time, it rarely works out. | ||

Naevrenuf_Maryland closed a State Hospital and instead of laying off people they were fired, thus no bumping rights for seniority etc. those folks did nothing, just budget cuts. | ||

IMO, if someone should have been let go long ago, everyone left at the company will be better off. Bad attitude is contagious. Maybe losing a job will cause these people to re-examine their work ethic. As I often remind my superintendent "It's not the people you fire who cause you problems, it's the people you don't". | ||

My wife works at a large call center and when someone gets fire they get escorted off the property by an armed guard. | ||

They are in the process of changing the locks on the doors that don't get used.... I hate to hear the conversations that involve future plans.... lord knows they are gonna have plenty of time for whatever now.... I'm not to worried about tomorrow.... I will just have to listen to the bitching. Friday, thats the day I will be looking over my shoulder | ||

I found out one of my co-workers was getting the axe the morning it was happening. Whats funny was my boss didn't get a chance to tell him as my co-worker was late that day and my boss was in a meeting when he arrived, so my co worker couldn't figure out why shortly after he arrived his ID card wouldn't open doors anymore. He went to Human Resources and get the bad news there  | ||

Been there. Sometimes you just know it the day they're hired it won't be long. But it's the times you know them, work with them for years, consider them friends, and see the guillotine overhead that it truly sucks. That doesn't go away easily or quickly. | ||

Unfortunately I have more experience with this than I care to have. If management did their job right, it should be no surprise and expect little emotion from all parties. What I have found to always be true is there is life after a job is gone. Like many companies, we had a lot of lay-offs as the economy went into the tank. We are picking back up and as we tried to call people back I was happy to find that many had moved on even in this economy. There were quite a few younger workers that went back to school and when they are finished will be far better off than they were when laid off. So it may be tough short term, but in the long run, it may be a positive change for the person. (Message edited by M2nc on May 19, 2010) | ||

well.... in about a hour they are gonna start I just watched one of the guys mark the calendar for some days off in June..... I think you are right Carlos, once the shock is over they will be better off. If this was happening to me, I could make the Res Ride..... damn the luck! | ||
