Chances are the government doesn't care about ANYONE on this forum. Just the fact that you can afford a motorcycle probably puts you above the income threshold they are looking for. Go ahead, skip the census...help them rearrange the Congressional lines to get more representatives for the "minorities" and "poor" people. In NJ there has been an outflux of "wealthy" people and of course the poverty areas have grown (with welfare and food stamps and free clinics, why wouldn't you have more kids?). The census will most like move 1 or 2 reps around in NJ from the "rich" counties (Morris and Sussex) to the "poor" counties (Essex and Camden). Avc is right it is a form of gerrymandering which is illegal. Its all about politics and the setting up of power. I pay taxes if they want info its right there its not hard. If they want to know about my home and how its paid for or financed or rented. It's in the county records. Since the consensus has violated the constitution every year. They dont deserve one question answered as protected by the 4th and 5th amendment. | ||

lets see was mailed 2 census within a week filled it out sent it in. phone burns off hook answered same questions again. two weeks later my buddy visiting says lady was from census was here left you a card tossed it. 2 days later knock census lady asked the same question as the phone call. I know we have high unemployment here in Michigan but this is ridiculous.  | ||

Two (2!) dudes came to my other house at the same time in separate vehicles and didn't even knock on the door.....even tho my bike was parked out front. They stopped the farmer in the field right next to me and asked him the questions. WTF? Farmer confirmed that I did not live there. My mail in a few weeks before confirmed that I am alive. | ||

Certified mail is the only way to prove something was received. They dont have the money to do so. Just like they dont have the right to ask anything for a period of ten years and since they gain info every year from citizens they lost their rights to ask us questions. A census guy came to my door, asked nothing too personal. Like...is this were I reside, do I reside here alone, what is my age, what is gf's age. blah blah blah...nothing about money or income or mortgage. After couple more questions, he was gone, was like 10 min. But the race question was odd... he asked what race I was and I said Caucasian....he said they was no checkbox for that and said I had to pick white. I thought that was odd because one of the other checkboxes had 3 types next to it: Black, African American and Negro. He told me some folk didn't like term the negro and some didnt like Black either. Some were taken back a bit but then said hmmmm,.. I guess I "AM" African. I was also there to witness my mother being censored as well and it was a very similar experience. She thought it was odd for them to ask if she was male or female. Makes me wonder if they included "illegal immigrant" on the form how many people would actually pick that as a race..., I mean..., you know..., with that Arizona Tea boycott going on and all.  | ||

I didn't see all these questions. Did I miss a page? all mine asked was age race and how many people lived there. The only odd thing for me was when it said for the perpose of this form hispanic is not a race.. So what do the Hispanic/latin people put? Do they ask more questions when they come to your house? | ||

On the last ten year census I included a nasty little note about the big bold print saying it is a crime not to fill out and send in the census. I counted the number of people and pets and nothing else, made sure to put in a note that said I was counted... No one ever knocked on the door after that. Of course living in the country they probably figured they would get shot for trespassing. The rules say you need to be counted, doesn't say anything about any other questions. And all the stupid television ads that suggest the census determines things like the number of buses in an area??? What a bunch of crap, I think the bus company determines if it needs more buses in an area by determining what happens when the bus is full and it leaves people waiting at the stop just like any other good business. | ||

That poor census worker, whose official title is "enumerator", probably doesn't really want spend more than 60 seconds with you either, but they do need to close their case, which is an address. The head count as of April 1 is mandated by the constitution and they have the right to be at your door to ask that question. The other questions are optional, just like having a paranoid, belligerent reaction to the enumerator. They will kindly note that you refused the optional questions and be very glad to close another case. NEXT. | ||

I my area they always "check" your receipt as you leave the store with YOUR stuff. Do any of you refuse that security check with the same venom you give the enumerator or do you "concede to everything they ask you" and refuse to show your receipt? If you are going to be a harda$$ have the balls to be a consistent harda$$ to everyone, not just the lowly part-time government rep standing at your door. | ||

Dave, They will also be the first people to yell, scream and cry like babies when their state looses a congressmen. FYI: Some of the transportation money for the buses is based on the number of people in a district and where do you think the Feds get their count from? The CENSUS and then yearly updates from the American Community Survey. I think the Feds should dock states money for the personal visits since they cost a whole lot more then the mailings. | ||
