I think Char has the right of it.

Biodiesel.

We will require a national call for more fried food, which, I suspect, the first lady will not approve of though.

Remember, Biodiesel/jet fuel was tried by the Air Force...... but they were ordered to stop because the clean burning fuel produced more CO2 than regular jet fuel. That's LESS REAL pollution but MORE RELIGIOUS pollution......

So nuclear ( and conventional ) Death must not be delivered across the planet with clean burning fuel lest it annoy Gaia, and she in her spite make lie the statement of the President that he's lowering the Ocean. ( but he's not doing it fast enough to walk to the oil leak, darn it!

Today I propose the two nuke option: Under water nuke to close it. If it blows it wide open, the second nuke is detonated above the water with the fireball touching the water to burn off the oil. Lets face it, we were just going to burn the oil anyways.

My point is we were just going to burn it. What is 2 more nukes going off. Mankind/The human race has touched off very near one thousand nukes to date.

Ourdee, could we at least try my suggestion first?

Sure, the pollution from stuffing Congress down the hole will be horrific, but the nukes you propose should clean that up as well as light crude, don't you think? Then there's the whole win/win deal with my proposal. Even if it fails, it's a net positive.

Nukes are always a second to last resort.
True, a few simple precautions & safety rules, and it's viable.

Have to educate them first.

I never have been able to get that song out of my head. ( like The Master on Dr. Who........)

My uncle was at Alamagordo (sp?) for one of the original testing of the nukes during the Manhattan Project... he was behind a bunker five/ten miles away (I think) and said he could see through his arm when they let the bomb off...

No nukes... that stuff would be 1000 times harder to clean up than oil... or IMPOSSIBLE to clean up... and eventually affect the entire planet... I know you guys are only kidding but it scares me a little bit...

On another note, I got lost on the way back from Road America and ended up riding through the wind farms near Fon du Lac... in a nasty little rain storm... why do those things creep me out and make me think of The Wall??? I don't know...

I understand, they give a sort of "Gattaca" ( dystopian future ) look.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119177/

The infamous case of Nimby on windmills is the late T. Kennedy not wanting his view spoiled, but he was typical, not unusual.

The neighbors down the street have a shrouded medium diameter ( 10-15 feet at a guess ) windmill that could easily be painted to look like a giant flower....or with ghost flames. That might not be as creepy in a sci-fi industrial way.... ok, maybe in a less stark industrial way..... but quiet, and not so much visual motion reaction as you drive by. I think because the spinning bits are inside something, rather than flailing about.

So, in response to an accident ( or, for the paranoid, a deliberate sabotoge ) we will make all energy cost way more expensive ....."neccessarily skyrocket"

And BP will profit from these taxes on you.

To save the Earth. From You. Sucker.

Has all common sense gone from America, We know that BP paid no head to the safe drilling practicces, so this will be the ans. well BS . My self I am for drilling the max. we can and emposing the heaviest fines on any one that will ignore safety . The American tax payer does not to bare the bunt of these crazy selfish actions.(no more taxes) (make the heavtest fines man has ever emposed)

I agree. IF BP screwed up ( and it looks like they did.... there WILL be an investigation ) they pay full freight on the damage. Period.

Of course, every penny comes from stock holders, and customers.

That's me.

You, too, if you have a 401k, any money in an index fund, or buy petroleum products from any company.

I know gasoline is pumped down a pipe to my city for distribution by trucks. Diesel too, same pipe. There's a few trucking companies that tank up at the pipe end/tank farm and distribute to every station in town. Some are running brand names on the trucks, others, a local name. That does NOT mean all gas is the same. Slugs of water are put between slugs of different type fuel. I know that the Sunoco distributer gets the middle of the slug of high test, and lets the tank farm sell the ends to discount stations. I don't know who BP locally buys the fuel from, on paper. I doubt it's a special delivery from BP.

Drilling is expensive. Deep water is way more so. High risk, high reward. When it pays off, we all get richer. ( mostly the guys that went for the risk, but that's how it works. ) When it fails, the company pays. Unless they bribed the politicians to socialize their losses by stealing my money and paying for their mistakes. BP bribed the current guys, a LOT. We'll see.

You are wright the tax payer gets it in the end, but most of you are to young to remember WW2 but a OPA celing price worked then. Look we have a hell of a big supply here they may not like it but they will drill. Remember when drilling in a foren country you can be nationalixed in a instant they are safe here that is a hell of a incentive.

Go to BP's facebook page and look at the ding bats posting comments.........JUST WOW!(They walk among us)
For example:
why can not pump the oil from the sea? An actor Cevin Costner has an oil water separation machine invented the water of oil separates, now if this could instalation on tankers and the oil would be pumped directly into the tanker, say 10 tankers to send a disaster ... See Moreand would pump the oil right out of the sea to prevent this but many environmental disasters. Why is so ewtas still do not know why the oil must be washed only at the coast?

Who's kidding? Nukes are a second to last resort.

I still have the "Duck and Cover" song in my head, after all these years. And, I don't fit under the wood desk at school any more.

From what I've been able to figure, with limited and poor reporting from a once competent press, BP is already doing the things that will work. Drilling wells to intercept the flow and stop the leak. Since this is not instant, they are getting "FIX IT NOW!!!!!" from everyone from the guy on the street, the President of the U.S. to the stockholder. ( in reverse order of priority to BP ) That's what most of the "let's try this" crap is coming from. That's the impression I get.

I should write them with my "stuff the pipe with congress" idea.
