I find it amusing that someone "took it apart" even though it "was made to appear just like a current generation" iphone. At least, according to what I've been seeing on NBC this morning.

Sounds like a plant to me.

If I found a phone...and if it looked "just like a normal one"...I certainly wouldn't bother disassembling it for kicks (and if I did, I'm pretty sure places like NBC could give a rat's ass about it). I'd head to the counter/bar/manager/whatever and say "hey, I found someone's phone"...or I'd call one of the numbers in its call log and say "call whoever owns this, I found it and they probably want it back and here's how to get in touch with me".

Rat- I thought the same thing. Who the heck do you think you are to keep the phone and take it apart? It's not yours. Heck even if I thought it was the next iPhone I would have gave it back to apple, maybe that's just how I was raised.

I really don't think apple would have leaked it. It's not their style.

I've Been saving my 2 year upgrade to snag the 4g when it's out.

I love my iPhone.
90% of all my XB Lights.com emails and orders are processed on this bad boy.
HUGE time saver for me.

Can't wait to see the new one ( the real version that Apple releases )

The buttons gave it away as well as the front mounted camera so that is why they explored further.

I highly recommend you read the articles then. Also, Giz is not the kind of site that would pull a hoax like this (at least after April 1st).

Well ok. Unless Gray Powell gets fired over it, i still think it was a set up!

Apple can't be letting Android lead the news much longer! It's hurting there Ego a little bit!

You do realize the Android hasn't even come any where close to the iPhone in sales right? Android could become a major threat to the apple smart phone throne someday, but not today.

Honestly competition is good for all of us, the end users. It pushes every company to develop better products.

If that is what the next one is going to look like I will hold on to my 3gs until it falls apart because I do not like how they took the smoothness out of it. I like how the 3gs feels really ergonomic that thing with its squared of edges looks uncomfortable to hold compared to the 3gs version.

Donald (Firebolt020283),

But gizmodo says that "it feels even nicer in your pants."

Can't beat that. LOL

Chen is a reporter for gizmodo - the website that bought the phone for $5,000 from the GUY who found (stole) it. Haven't heard anything about that GUY getting in any trouble! According to employees at the bar, the Apple engineer called repeatedly after the incident to try to recover his phone but unfortunately the GUY who found it thought it would be better to sell it to gizmodo then to leave it with the bartender or turn it in to the police - nice!

Finding a phone is not the same as stealing a phone.

I read that the raid of the reporter's home may violate California law protecting journalists from having their press-related property confiscated by the police. Interesting.

I agree that finding a phone isn't stealing a phone... until the owner of the phone calls trying to recover it. Personally, the moment anyone decides to purposefully ignore that, they (IMHO) are a thief. Just a passive aggressive one.

Gizmodo is certainly a journalist though. Though I'm not very comfortable with journalists paying a bounty for proprietary things or information, especially when it isn't related to blowing the lid off a crime or something.

Finders keepers

Just kidding. Not returning the phone when asked may not be illegal, but it certainly is an ass-hatted thing to do.

If the guy was just out to make some cash, I wonder what Apple would have offered to get their not-yet-released IP back?

Apple might not have... but I bet the guy that lost it would have coughed up some significant cash...

(I would have, were I him...)
