I'm not that young, I know all about it due to my previous obsession over the 80's Firebirds. Yes, it is similar to the Crossfire, but based on my understanding, this a secondary source of fuel in addition to the main fuel injectors.

Although, Direct Injection is the way to go in my book.

Hey maybe the crossfire would work on a bike.
My old c4 looked nice but the crossfire was the big downside of it. Didnt pay much for it neither did i keep it long. Just to much emissions in that fuel system. Could be upgraded but really wasnt worth it. After I beat my brother, (who was driving my vette)in my 81 cj7 sitting on 33's (yea it has a stroked small block that is built well) the thrill of "looking cool" was over. Sold it to buy my first buell..... and will never look back!

This looks promising. I'm hoping to try one on my vette. It should help the TFS heads,cam,and headers make it more fun.

Couldn't get the thread to link its a new intake called the renegade. Has bigger runners and they claim 30 HP over a stock crossfire setup.

why the hell would you want to stock the injectors further away from the cylinder? the closer they are to the chamber, the more efficient.

I believe the Stock ones are still there and these are secondary injectors for when more fuel is needed

The smaller injectors the finer the fuel mist and the more even the fuel distrubuition.
And if the fuel presure is increased to compicate for smaller injectors then the fuel mist turns into a spray.

The Chevy system was called CEASE-FIRE not Crossfire. The hood scoops allowed water to assualt the system, barely adequate when dry, add water and pffft no start. Money makers for the shops.

I am doing some research on injection systems now. The farther the injector is from the combustion chamber the better atomization of the fuel air mix. All racing engine builders are using it in the test program for racing. Higher pressures result in better atomization at higher RPM ranges.
At one time, they were experimenting with two injectors and found that the injector on the exterior of the intake worked better.

If you like F1 engines at 20,000 RPM.

Isn't Direct Injection ECM controlled as opposed to the sip & suck of a carb?

The advantage of DFI is its' advantage over standard carbs...

I know the goal is to create the smallest fuel droplets and the best mix with the incoming air.
I was wondering if at higher rpm's, where the airflow rate is greatest, if the shower head approach may give better mixxing?
Being a race engine emissions probably aren't important so whatever makes the most power would be the concern.

When talking Direct injection we should probably define 'direct' as so far the only direct injected engines I know of are Diesels.

unless something slipped by, all gas engines have the injector outside the combustion chamber. Now I know the next gen engines are supposed to go direct but I didn't think they were there yet.

Direct injection is when the fuel injector directly sprays fuel into the cylinder, vs in the throttle body or elsewhere in the air intake.

There are many direct injection gas engines out there now, including the new V6 Camaro.

Poppin, GM started putting direct injection on the Pontiac Solstice GXP about 2 years ago. I don't know if they're using it on anything else. Ford is using it on the new Taurus, and has plans to use it in the upcoming 5.0 Mustang.

EDIT: ah, I see Froggy says it's in the little Camaro. It's a massive improvement in HP AND fuel ecomony. Just not fair having a 6 cylinder Taurus making more HP than the current Mustang GTs!
