Waving, I could care less, if someone waves, I wave back but I really do not think about it. Of course I sat on the side of the road for a while today watching all makes of bikes go by, including a Uly.... Too bad my bike was not running and none of these assholes decided to stop to ask if everything was ok. (Anyone own a piss yellow Uly on this site, I would like to talk to you)

It was different when I started riding street bikes. I hope I can return the favor to those dirt bags someday.

Of course back in the 70s everyone knew how to wrench on a bike (Harley and otherwise) and carried enough tools to help out. Different today. Frack waving. Screw all those who do not stop.

Lucky for me the second time it happened today I had two Buell riders with me.

I will however go out of my way to not wave to any GA boys on 50s.....

Just kidding Glitch, the 3 Percenters are tops in my book

Wow.. I guess the last time I went out for a ride I wouldn't have gotten a wave then... Wearing my full tourmaster Flex/Flex2 suit, Axo racing boots, Cortech racing gloves with the tinted sun shade lowered across my eyes. At least I have a regular plain black helmet with no stupid designs on it. I was testing the first day warm enough to go all mesh, was pretty decent too.

"Wave, it'll make ya feel all warm and fuzzy"

My new (to me) Wacom Tablet is pretty cool, once you get used to it.
I'm not yet, but I'm getting there.

Oh and by the way, I pretty much always stop for a stopped rider.
I keep a board in the truck, just in case.

Why They Don't Wave Back

Every once in a while, somebody starts whining about Harley riders not waving back. Before those whiners dismiss all Harley riders as mean-spirited, they should consider that there are probably very good reasons why their waves are not being returned....

Top Ten Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave Back
1. They're afraid it will invalidate their factory warranty.
2. Leather and studs make it too hard to raise their arm.
3. They refuse to wave to anyone whose bike is already paid for.
4. They won't let go of handlebars because they might vibrate off.
5. The rushing wind could blow the scabs off their new tattoos.
6. They're angry over the second mortgage needed to pay for the new Harley.
7. They just discovered the fine print in their owner's manual revealing that The Motor Company is partially owned by rice-burner manufacturers.
8. They can't tell if other riders are actually waving or just reaching up to cover their ears, like everyone else.
9. If they wave back, they risk being impaled on their spiked helmet.
10. They're upset that after spending $30,000, they still don't own a bike that's as comfortable as a Goldwing.

To be totally fair, let it be noted that sometimes Goldwing riders don't wave back, either. Again, to facilitate a better understanding....

Top Ten Reasons Why Goldwing Riders Don't Wave Back

1. They aren't sure whether the other rider is waving or making an obscene gesture.
2. They risk getting frostbite if they take their hand off the heated grip.
3. They have arthritis and it is difficult to raise their arm.
4. The reflection from the etched windshield was momentarily blinding.
5. The on-board espresso machine had just finished.
6. They were asleep when other rider waved.
7. They were involved in a three-way conference call with their stock broker and accessories dealer.
8. They were distracted by an oddly shaped blip on their radar screen.
9. They were simultaneously adjusting the air suspension, seat height, programmable CD player, seat temperature and satellite navigation system.
10. They couldn't find the "auto wave-back" button on their dashboard.

Top 10 Reasons Sportbikers Don't Wave:

10. They have not been riding long enough to know they're supposed to.
9. They're going too fast to have time enough to register the movement and respond.
8. You weren't wearing bright enough gear.
7. If they stick their arm out going that fast they'll rip it out of the socket.
6. They're too occupied with trying to get rid of their chicken strips.
5. They look way too cool with both hands on the bars or they don't want to unbalance themselves while standing on the tank.
4. Their skin tight-kevlar-ballistic-nylon-kangaroo-leather suits prevent any position other than fetal.
3. Raising an arm allows bugs into the armholes of their tank tops.
2. It's too hard to do one-handed stoppies.
1. They were too busy slipping their flip-flop back on.

Top Ten Reasons Why BMW Riders Don't Wave Back

10. New Aerostich suit too stiff to raise arm.
9. Removing a hand from the bars is considered "bad form."
8. Your bike isn't weird enough looking to justify acknowledgment.
7. Too sore from an 800-mile day on a stock "comfort" seat.
6. Too busy programming the GPS, monitoring radar, listening to iPod, XM, or talking on the cell phone.
5. He's an Iron Butt rider and you're not!.
4. Wires from Gerbings is too short.
3. You're not riding the "right kind" of BMW.
2. You haven't been properly introduced.
1. Afraid it will be misinterpreted as a friendly gesture.

And Finally...

Top Ten reasons Metric Cruiser Riders don't wave back

10. New leather jacket was purchased at the same size as suit jacket.
9. Didn't know that the bike wouldn't fly off the road if left hand was removed.
8. Was looking at the handle bars wondering what accessory could mount where.
7. Was wildly grasping at some valve under seat. (3.7 gals BAH!)
6. Rider was actually pulling up black socks and pulling down on jeans trying to close a few air gaps.
5. Rider was too caught up in reciting his mantra 'Left hand clutch' 'Right hand Gas AND Front brake' 'Left foot Gears' 'Right foot Rear brake' 'And for Gods sake Both feet down at light'.
4. Waved after you went by. You just thought they didn't wave.
3. Was searching GPS to find local Bike wash.
2. Rider wasn't really waving, was doing wind airfoil test with hand and arm.
1. Rider was involved in trying to get new throttle stop to STOP.

I wave at everyone unless its a never-ending sea of bikes, then I give up. I have noticed that on my XB9sx it seems everyone returns a wave. Sportbikes, harleys even BMW. On my 1125r most harley and BMW do not return the wave. Now I go out of my way to over enthusiastically wave at that demographic while on the 1125. I chose to kill them with kindness

You know. One of the things I noticed once I got to CO from the south east is that more riders don't wave vs those that do. Find that very interesting.

If I remember correctly, when I was researching what model Buell I was going to buy, somewhere on the Buell website the caption on one of the pictures was something to the effect of "Because it's ok not to wave back"! I love it, and it repeats in my head everytime I don't wave back! Down here it seems that everyone wants to wave in heavy traffic, while my hand is on the clutch... thus I can't wave. I rarely wave, my neighbors say I'm a b!tch because I don't wave when they are standing outside, I tell them that I see them, I just need to pay attention to traffic at the intersection, and controll the clutch. I usually don't wave, I used to when I had my FLHR, but I really don't wave all that much anymore... and if that makes me a b!tch, then GOD BLESS AMERICA! maybe some of you men will stop assuming that I am a "lady" just because I have tits and a twat!

Jesus taught about our responsibility to "waving".

Matthew 5:
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

(The publicans were noted for their lack of virtue at the time and are used here as a standard to be exceeded)

Also I do stop when I see someone on the side of the road with their bike. It is awesome to see the looks on the faces of some of these fat bearded big burly tough guys when a sport bike pulls over, then when I take off the full face and they see that it is a broad who has stopped! I was out riding with a girlfriend, and we saw one of my customers on the side of the road(i sell aftermarket harley parts), so we u-turned and stopped to offer help, it was quite the interesting reaction from him!

I was taught to put my helmet on the ground as a "flag" if my bike was broke down. I always stop, especially for folks that look distressed, and it is always fun to help. The funniest was a noid on a beemer, who was trying to get AAA to come pick him up.

Personally, for me, being as cool as "I" am. The left hand down low with the "peace sign". If I'm not able to one hand it I do the chin out and up "cool guy" nod not the submisive chin in and down nod. The one I've been trying to use more often is the way over zealous excited guy frantic fist pump, sometimes even standing on the pegs to do it. It is the best when I get to do it to a HD or BMW rider. They don't know WTF is going on and surely think I am an imbecile not the way cool dood that I am.

Yeah I have heard that as well in helmet law states (helmet on the ground next to the road). I gave the "thumbs down" to the dozen bikes that went by. Thumbs up means every thing is ok.

There are not too many Orange Ulys around these parts. I will find him.
