You are going to see much more of this. Any company that has grown to the size of 50 employees WILL be hiring the 51st employee in China. That 51st employee carries a $100,000 Federal mandate cost to that business. |

We've been silently sold off over the past fifteen years! We are becoming the Peoples Republic of ChinAmerica. Wait until they get ahead in the Space Race. They will do it a dollar at a time, on the manufacturing basis that we gave away, which happens to be what made our country great in the first place. But what the heck, we continually ask for it.....It was good sir, may I have another! Cheap, or inexpensive products, can only be properly had where integrity is a part of the transaction. Take out integrity and you only have cheap. Meaning there is no product. That in turn means more expense. Ala.....somebody bought a pair of boots, well now you have boots, but you will have to spend more to buy another pair of boots that you can actually wear. Take them back and make them eat their "cost cutting good deal". |

having been a carpenter most of my life, i always tried to buy tools made in the us cause they held up a lot better than the chinese crap. we have priced ourselves right out of good products. |

Might give these a try . . . . I haven't tried them yet, but have heard good things about them. I still use Red Wing for work and it's almost impossible to get the dealer to lay off trying to sell me their Made in China "WORX" knock-offs. My Wesco's I still have custom made. For the best deal you can get on boots you'll never beat Papa Shoe. |

I've been wearing my Chippewa Rally boots every day for about five years now. Very durable and comfortable, and subdued enough to be acceptable in the office. I slather them with Obenauf's every few months to keep them in good shape. USA made. |

Yes yes on the red wing I had a pair of red wing ropers they were so good and lasted so long the company stoped makeing them. I have been wareing ropers for at least 20 yrs they are a dual purpose boot. They cary a nice high gloss Shine and are tough enough for ranch wear. |

Justin still makes a damn good boot. I hope some of them are good. The Chinese pair I got at Tractor Supply have been trying to kill my feet. I bought them, so I have to wear them(a mental thing). Sadly they seem to be holding up pretty good.

love all four pair of my redwings. hafta be careful on them too not all of the actual RedWings are being made in the US anymore either not just the worx. and yeah getting a pair resoled is better than new shoes cuz you get new tread on a boot that really fits and is molded to your foot so awesome |

+1- support your local cobbler... The feet are the most overworked and underappreciated part of the body- in restaurant work especially. Can't say how many times I've advised against the K-mart cheapo shoes- then watched them disintegrate for someone after 6 months. (Hate to say I've got Chinese boots, but they're well made enough to do the job. Wish I'd had the $$$ and opportunity to have some custom boots done... ) Sure would like to screw back on my sociological beanie cap to hash out all the USA/China problems... I've always fantasized about having the magical power to make everything NOT produced/made/grown on U.S. soil disappear for, say, about 10 minutes, then to reappear- then sit back with some popcorn and watch... |

I wear the ones Court mentioned, Boulet (made in Canada), and they are good. At first they were great but after a while the have started to show some minor isses that a boot should not. Might consider Olathe or Lucchese. Olathe are made in Mercedes, Texas. Lucchese have three different lines that are made in El Paso, Texas. Justin has some that are made here but I think Justin are living on their name and it will catch up with them, in fact I think they are junk. Some Tony Lama's are USA made but they are hard to find. There is also Double H. After that you might consider a hand made boot. On a side not I have the 2221 Lineman boots and the construction is top notch but a major pain in the ass to break in. They are not quite as nice as my wifes Wescos but nothing to turn your nose up at. |

+ 1 on the Chippewa's. I've had a pair of these http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots/arroyos_pull_on /29300 for awhile now and really like them. They can be re-soled as well. USA made. |

i've been wearing Ariat roper's for the last 12 year's. i have 3 pairs of ill fitting other brands that i bought when i couldn't find the Ariats locally. Mahan's, Justins and Tony Lamas that see little duty. the first Ariats i bought were made in Brasil but it appears that they are made in China now also. i have recently bought boots online succesfully. tim tim |

It seems my recommendation on Justins is invalid....it seems that the 3 pair of high quality Justins I have are 6 to 10 years old...I guess Pre-Chinese involvement. |

Justin Ropers made in the US have worked well for me. I have a pair of the Chinese ones, and they don't compare, quality-wise, but they're OK for working in nasty mud where I don't want to f*ck up my good riding boots! If anybody's got Justin ropers in 12D that they want to get rid of, cheap, PM me. rt |

+1 on the Chippewa boots. I have a pair of their motorcycle boots. Great boots, made in the USA and can be resoled since the are built the traditional way. |

A few things of note. A year ago I had a pair of and they Doc Martins work boots that were made in China (could not send them back)& they were the biggest piles of crap I have ever owned. I have since looked at other Doc Martins at Academy and they were also China products. Also a large majority of Red wing are made in China as are much of the Chippewa (now owned by Justin) line. I just wish more people would refuse to buy the China junk. We are the ones that control the market but most people can't see why quality matters. It may not affect them at the time when making a "minor" purchase but in the end it will with much bigger ramifications than cost of the savings. |

+1 on the Redwings, I got the Cadillac model, and they're worth every penny. 26000 pennies I think it was. Took forever to count them out on the guy's counter. J/K, but still, they're very good boots. Daily wear, on my feet 8 hrs a day on concrete, lots of walking in a 1.5 million square foot machine shop. |

Taking it one step up the corporate ladder... Justin, in turn, is owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. If you go to Chippewa's website, it's easy to tell the US-made models, because they splash "handcrafted in the USA" across the screen in bold letters. I am happy to report their entire line of motorcycle boots are still made here in the states. Sadly, that is no longer true for their other lines. If you've got the cash to spend and want REALLY top-shelf US-made boots, Wesco will stitch up a custom pair to your exact specifications. You get what you pay for, and for these you're going to pay handsomely. Bates also makes great riding boots down in SoCal, and they now offer them in "standard" sizes that are much more economically priced than their custom-fitted ones. |
