i wasn't planning on it this year b/c last year it was reeeeeaaaalllly lame! my date/ex didn't dance at all and more or less stood there the entire night on her phone. so i wasn't planning on going at all this year. I've been getting crap about it from everybody at school for not going this year. I just told them i didn't have fun last year, and prom's overrated (which it truly is!), and besides i have better things to spend $200 on! (which would be $200 that i really shouldn't be spending anyway! I've got enough bills already!) long story short this girl Brooke (who's very cute BTW) texted me last night and started giving me crap how i wasn't going, and long story short she managed talking me into taking her to prom...... hopefully it'll be better this year. I'm betting it will b/c brook is one of my best friend (Rosie)'s younger sister and Brooke and i are going with Rosie and her BF who's a really funny guy! |

Damn, I'd forgot how hard it is to be young. Decisions decisions decisions. $200 for a prom? who's playing? The Stones? Proms seem to be taking off in Europe these days too, another imported US custom, like trick or treat, that we never had when I was a kid. If you want to make an entrance, you could do what a friend of mine's son did (after a good bit of practice I must add). Roared up to the do on his bike with GF on the back, loud race-pipe so he could be heard coming, stoppie at the red carpet. His Dad (my mate) was hanging around in a dark suit & shades close by & walked up as they got off the bike, Marc (his lad) tossed him the helmets & said "Park it boy" then walked in without looking back. His Mum was videoing from across the street, it was classic, gaping mouths everywhere. |

200's for the tux more than likely grump and if someone did that at a school over here, they would be suspended right then and there. you know, zero tolerance stuff plus no sense of humor. |

The only thing I see from it is were I am from saying "park it boy" could be looked at as a racist remark. (Message edited by firebolt020283 on April 02, 2010) |

I went to three proms. All of them were kinda useless. Of course, we didn't have red carpets to do stoppies in front of either. I always left early and had more fun afterwards. WOW, that was a while ago for me though. |

Have fun, dating friends can be so refreshing when you've had a tough time with the girls that make your heart stutter, and if you give it a chance can make for very good relationships... |

Ahhh, prom. I remember that, I had a great time with my date, although she was from out of town we had a great time. Prom is a BIG deal here. Everyone tries to get the most original ride to bring them. We've had helicopters, hot air balloons, tractor trailers, tons of old cars, motorcycles, tractors and in '91 a Penzoil Nascar car showed up. Half the town shows up to watch. Have fun! Kyrocket, that's the sort of thing they have in Europe these days. My daughter's step dad laid on a Rolls Royce for her & her friend to go. People rent all sorts of things these days, even a Party Limo Fire Engine. It's a Fire Truck with softened suspension, gutted & rebuilt with bar & disco system. In my day you were lucky if your parents drove you to anything, usually we had to sort it ourselves, usually walk-bus-walk to get there & walk-thumb-walk to get home after. |

Dude; bikes before broads. On Friday nights I could be found at Ascot Park watching the local 1/2 mile dirt track races. I didn't do any of the after school crap, never even attended a football game. |

I pulled up to my prom in a built '66 GTO. The other dad's volunteer to valet park, and they were all clammoring to drive it.....I said, nope, took it around and burned them off through the first two gears and then turned into the parking lot, then walked back to where my date was waiting. Haha, she understood and didn't mind waiting for me. |

Prom here isn't such a big deal. (If I can remember back that far) I went in a black XB coupe. My friends and I all agreed not to take dates and went as a group of friends-the same way we had gone through school. Figured it was more important partying together. Ended up at an 'after-party' then ditched it for a drive to the beach. Wound up watching the sun come up with good friends (rather intoxicated)dancing in the sand. Glad I did. Haven't seen most of those friends for a long time now. Everyone goes their separate ways I guess. Have fun at yours. |

Hell do like I did my senior year, rented a long tailed tux, silk scarf, white glove, rode my bike right up to the front door, and danced with every young lady that I could, had a frieaking blast! Ended up being the best dance of the school carrer. Either way, have fun with it, don't think about last year that will just put a damper on things. Think about this attractive, fun lady asking you out and having a great time. You won't regret it |

I wish I could forget my senior prom, it was epic fail. Over hyped, waste of cash, waste of time. |

i went to far to many proms... the cars were always the fun part. well and after the prom, but i digress... i took so much cool stuff. it was an excuse to borrow someones hotrod or whatever and cruise. the last year i went(i had already graduated) i had 4 of my own vehicles going to that prom. my built 72ss nova, my 84 shortbox s10 with a 383 stroker, my supra, and my decked out 88 4x4. we lined them all up at the intersection right infront of the front doors and did a HUGE group burnout. then we all slowly rolled out of the smoke cloud and up to the front door to drop off the dates. it was awesome! and of course then there was always the race to breakfast after partying all night. 10-15 cars doing WELL in excess of 100 for about 60 miles to our destination. it still amazes me some of us survived growing up... and of course, the simple fact that a hot woman asked YOU to take HER to prom is always a good sign and shouldnt be ignored! |

I had a date for prom, had the reservations for hotel, after party hooch all set up... And guess whose unit gets called in for fun 'administration' support for something that we werent doing in a place where we werent supposed to be , doing stuff that I can put in a book in 5 more years. A fun 86 hours. The girl never talked to me again. Good times. |

no no The date for prom didnt last 86 hours Our unit was on lock down for 86 hours. At 18 I was already E-5 and in charge of the plan, breif and debrief, so the first in and the last out; administratively anyways. |

It's freaking expensive. My son went last year, and my daughter this year. I never went so I want them to go, but damn .. I'm running out $ fast. yea $200 tux rental give or take, $50 tickets, and then if we decide to go out for food afterwords theres another dinner, and then anything that happens after prom that costs money....and if a group of us go in for a limo thats some more $$$ leaving my hand......proms way to expensive! girls have it easy, they have the guy pay for everything except their dress! (which they get to keep!) i dont get to keep the $200 tux i'm going to rent! and sweet cars.....i dont see me having that luxery. nobody in my family has sweet cars (my uncle has an SHO, but thats just fast.....not really cool..... My bike is probably the coolest thing that anybody in my family or extended family owns as far as vehicles & transportation. Brookes been asking for a ride on it, but i dont see her willing to go to prom on it lol |

After the 1st prom I went to I swore to myself never again. I had a okay time there but afterwards was more fun. My senior year instead of going to the prom I went to a poker run on my raptor and had a blast. That monday everyone told me I made the right choice because the prom was like a formal lock down. Hard to believe june will be my 5 year high school reunion. |

Wow...11 years seems so long ago. I spent the money on ME for senior prom. White suit, tails, cane, hat...the whole 9. I was considered trash to those people. Middle class kid from the Northside going to a private Catholic school. Jaws dropped when I walked on that boat...yeah they rented a cruise ship for the night! |

June will be 7 years out for me. My Junior year, I had a hot date, drove a sweet orange Regency GMC shortwide, but the date left with another guy (long story). Wasn't any my fault, and it sure pissed me off. Senior year I went stag, took my '67 Chevy longwide, wore a White tux with Blue vest, and had a BALL. I even, gentlemanly, asked last year's date to dance, which she declined. |
