It's good to be able to disagree on things and still shake hands, nicht wahr?
Very.

Loud Pipes Risks Rights
and pisses of the neighbors.

I wouldn't think they'd need any new laws, only enforce those that already exist.
I'd bet if people started getting tickets for loud pipes, there'd be no need for a ban on unsightly presence of motorcyclists.

But banning of motorcyclists expands the reach of government, rather than just having control over those with loud pipes.

Is that expanding government, or limiting government. I must be confused.

Sifo -- I don't think anyone here is supporting the concept of banning moto0rcycles or their riders from any area whatsoever . . . either in therroy or specifically.

Local ordinance, totally different animal.
I had no idea the AMA got involved in local things.

Loudest pipes I usually hear are on opened up pickups - way louder than your average Harley, and usually have the same fag attitude.

Sifo, while I agree with most of what you're saying, this:
Conservatives are about smaller government and less control over the people.
doesn't hold water. Just because the Republicans didn't vote for the health care bill doesn't mean they're for smaller government. How quickly we forget the Patriot Act and Imminent Domain scandals.

All you conservatives that drink beer and look at porn and want less strict laws about helmet laws, seat belt laws and govt in your life sound pretty damn liberal to me...

Was that a joke? Hard to tell on the InterWeb sometimes. Just wait until all those things gets controlled under the new health care system.

The patriot act was bi-partisan as well as being temporary to deal with a specific crisis. The eminent domain cases of recent years have been decided by liberal judges giving more power to the government. Limited government has always been a conservative ideal. That shouldn't be confused with striving for zero government. As I pointed out earlier, that would be anarchy.

the patriot act codified and simplified what we had been doing for decades.

Without it, we would still be listening in, we would just hve to have an 'anonymous' tip to direct our antenae your way.

Looks like a local deal that is just what the AMA should be working on.

I understand the desire for a "pretty" business district, without teenagers hanging out in scary looking groups, they dress so slovenly. ( what's that, their parents spend money? ) Those dirty bikers, they don't buy much, get rid of them ....

I gotta stand on the side of freedom of being a freak here. You don't want teens/bikers/mustangs/those slow old folks/whatever.... build your own mall. Main street's for the citizens.

This is small town politics not left/right ideology. IMO

Now as to.... All you conservatives that drink beer and look at porn and want less strict laws about helmet laws, seat belt laws and govt in your life sound pretty damn liberal to me...

One problem is that "liberal" is not the same as "progressive", no matter what the progressives say. Western civilization is referred to as Liberal, since we have all those equality rules, and frown on slavery. Good stuff. I'm old school liberal. Now, you gotta watch those liberals because it's easy to talk them into spending other peoples money to help people.... and they tend to be oddly accepting of some differences and not others, but not bad folks if you don't put them in total charge of spending. Gotta have a balance.

The Progressives, on the other hand, they're bad news. They lie about stuff like open & honest govt. tell you some huge increase in govt. spending won't cost you anything, and have fascist/communist/authoritarian ( pick 1 or more ) attitudes that always lead to badness.

Hint, if they use envy or hate to manipulate, that's the bad guys. Pretty simple.

People have been hatin on motorcycles since they scared the horse traffic.
Its just a new generation of whining
Its not even originial.

Ask Colorado Springs how they feel about bikers after a two year ban on 'loud' pipes.... and money conscious Sturgis rider Evading their town, and keeping their cash out of their registers.

Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson N.Y.

A Message from BID President Bruce Passarelli

Dear Mayor Garant A letter was distributed displaying reasons for ending
parking on Main St with the BID’s seal on it. I was out of town when that
was done. There was NO approval from the BID’s Board of Directors about
sending out that letter. It is an unofficial letter. I first saw it after
the fact when I returned. I want to make that perfectly clear. I and others
on the Board are quite upset about it. I know personally the Merchants of
Port Jefferson welcome the motorcyclists. I am considering resigning from
the BID’s Board of Directors. Again I was unaware of this being sent out and
it should never have been sent period.

SincerelyBruce Passarelli President PJ BID.

A Message from Mayor Margot Garant

The Village of Port Jefferson would like to take this opportunity to clarify
a few points about a certain flyer that was distributed around town which
described motorcyclists as “unsightly”among other reasons in an attempt to
encourage a No Parking policy on Main Street. Although this flyer looks like
it was endorsed and produced by the Port Jefferson Business Improvement
District it was actually posted by one member of the District while the
President was on vacation without seeking approval from the BID as a whole.
This flyer represents the views and opinions of one person not the Village
nor the Business Improvement District as a whole. At this time the Village
has no plans to change any of the parking regulations on Main Street or any
other Village streets for that matter. Additionally the Village’s Parking
Committee is working on plans to increase parking and designate specific
locations for motorcycle parking to make the town more accessible to riders.
Mayor Garant respectfully requests that all visitors to Port Jefferson abide
by the code and remind the motorcyclists that they are permitted to park two
per spot and that the 1/2 parking time restraint is being enforced on Main
Street to motorist and motorcyclists alike. Parking lots are available
around the village for long-term parking. Some of these lots are available
free of charge. Brookhaven residents may park free of charge in the
Brookhaven Town parking lot located across from Village Hall.

Mayor Garant has spoken out against the flyer and plans to attend the BID
meeting tonight to express her concern with the BID and with what appears to
be a direct breakdown in communication between BID members and procedure
resulting in this controversial flyer.

The Village apologizes for the inconvenience and insult that this unofficial posting has
