You are so right Ft_bstrd!! My father-in-law, who could give a crap about motorcycles...especially since I got his daughter to love them, was talking to me about this. The company he works for does maintenance on private jets ( including Bombardier) and heard through the grapevine about the offer to buy Buell and said how stupid H-D was for turning them down.

Word is getting out in a big way!!

So I was in a nameless "dealer" this weekend sporting a Buell shirt...

They had a new Sporty 48. Thing looked pretty good. So the sales schlep comes over and gives the standard "are you ready to ride it home?" line...

In the meaningless banter I engage in with him, I bring up Buells and racing... He tells me how Buell was closed down because they weren't selling... So I provide him with some more accurate info and he throws out "h-d now has has the XR1200"...

To which I retort about the low HP and weight issues for a sport-type bike... He continues on with his h-d drivel (can't remember much of what he said, as I quit paying attention)...

I am also attending training with 15 other H-D riders and 4 BMW riders. Most know of Buell being shut down, but that is about the extent of their Buell knowledge...

Point is... While we have all come across h-d riders/sales people, etc. that know of Buell and how they got shut down, most don't know and could care less.

"are you ready to ride it home?"

Friggin' HATE that line.

"You guys doing alright?"

"Are there any questions about the bikes I can answer for you?"

I may be doing it wrong, but these are usually MY opening lines.

My next question is usually "what are you riding currently?"

Maybe I don't sell as many as I could using used car lines, but I hope our customers feel like they have been treated with respect.

me and my friend got the same "ready to ride it home" line last time we were at our local HD dealer. We were looking at the xr1200 (my buddy was sitting on it actually) we both just smiled at each other and i told the sales guy i already had a real sport bike. to which he replied something along the lines of i should be riding a true American machine....which made my buddy just burst out laughing and saying that we do ride a true American sports bike. the sales guy was a pretty cool guy, from then on we sat and talked about Buells for a while

I have three orange and black American bikes in the garage... I pull into the shop to get a new tire because I already rolled through the one that was just put on there (dirt is abusive to tires)... and get the Have you seen the NEW Sportster?....
You mean the one that has the foot pegs in the wrong position, the ill equipped tires, the off sized rims, the over styled and hyped tank, the under powered, over weight, under braked and aneamic sounding one ?.....
ummmmm Which one are you talking about...?
Which one are you going to point to ?

Someone had to explain to the poor n00b that I did his job for 6 years and was on a first name basis with over half the customers in the store.

I saw that "48" a couple of days ago. It was appropriate that one of the first "new" bikes that H-D comes out with (after Buell built the most refined machines ever to have a Sportster-based powertrain), was the most grotesque, mis-shapen mongoloid throwback I've ever seen. Ick.....

A 160hp triple sounds like a full liter bike, my daytona has a 12.5:1 CR with a 11500 limiter, and pushes 147 stock (crank). A 675 pushes about 130. That draws SOOOO many more questions..... like why? and how? and who do I pay off to get a nice "fireside chat" about these secrets.....? What was radical about it?

Biker build off season 4? (2005) episode 7?

I can't really tell, but it was in 2005 and it is available pretty much exclusively on dvd. Cory Ness used a W3 powerplant for the build......

Someone find it or buy it, then post the sound! it undoubtedly sounds great, horsepower always sounds great!

"A 160hp triple... "
I think you've mixed up models - Anony was saying 160hp for the streetfighter that could've been after the 1125CR, which I'm assuming was still Helicon based, I guess 1190cc.
No hp figures were mentioned for the midsized triples.

Yup, I did.... it was late, just got home from an 800 mile trip. The midsized triple would have had to be at least 120hp to be recognized or appealing. I'm assuming it would be 120 degree?

HEY ANNON~! Tell us a little about this "radical" statement you made..... prove it isn't puffery.

"Remind me to Tell you Sometime"
Decades of behind the scenes insights that made the brand, but never made headlines.

Really hopping it has a full section for the Griffin... damnit.
