I'm a long-time subscriber. Cycle World has been as pro-Buell as any magazine out there.

It's also worth noting (as I alluded to in an earlier post) that Peter Egan's column in this issue is mainly about Buell's demise. He did an extended road test of an early Ulysses back in 2005 or 2006 and had many good things to say about it. I was surprised he didn't wind up on one back then. I took the announcement of Buell's closing to finally bump him off dead center; he came home with an 09X shortly after the closure announcement. I suspect he'll have more to say about his new Uly over the coming months.

I have a subscription for Cycle World. Just waiting for it to show up on the door step. I also went to several stores last night looking for a copy. None out there yet. Sounds like there is a lot in this issue, discussing future models, etc

I wonder if BRP would have kept the Buell name, or put their Can Am name on the bikes?

It would be funny if Victory or some other company took over HD....

Incredible. This article really needed to be written and Steve Anderson and Cycle World did a fantastic job. I am sure HD wanted all this to go away quietly, this article sure won't make that happen. This should bring another call to arms to the HD board from all those Buell loyal. Cycle World has my subscription.

Great articles. I will definitely be subscribing to CW.

Up to now it seems, and I could be wrong, that all discussion of a non-compete has been speculation. Is this the first time it has been in writing?

While riding my Uly back from a client's site today, which is a good 30+ minute ride or longer if it's a nice day, I was thinking about this. I would really like to be in a position for a new Buell in a year or so and thought, meh, it would probably take some time for Erik to develop a new bike for the street market so maybe two to three years is more realistic. But then I thought to myself, a non-compete means he can't sell a street a street bike, but is shouldn't mean he can't work on developing something now. Which of course made me start wondering about what is in the works as we speak. Which of the bikes mentioned in the article is already being planned/develped for sale in a year? Or if that is not an option what new, never before thought of Buell is in the works right now?

Ooooh, it's almost as fun as fantasizing about nekkid ladies (almost).

The good news from this article is that any potential negative impression of Buell and Buell motorcycles being "inferior" and being the cause of the departure is quickly being removed.

All those things that people didn't like about Buell are being revealed to be an evil genius being held against his will and forced to Build motorcycles to a budget instead of to a design outcome.

How much of the oddity that put off so many in the press, the public, and members here could have been altered and improved had Buell been allowed to design without restriction?

No pods, water cooled, better fuel maps, better switch gear, full fairing?

Oh, the bike that could have been........

Let's hope that BRP lets this dog off the chain. I'm ready for my 2012 world beater!!!!

With that kind of deal there just is no reason to post a bootleg copy in violation of Cycle World's copyrights.

My apologies to A_S_R. His posted pdf link was not bootleg derived but taken from freely available sample views. However that content is still copyrighted by Cycle World and so should not be offered outside of their own venue by outside parties.

I get the hard copy, but I may try the new online copy. I would suppose it could be read easily on the new IPAD. I could be going green....or would that be Buell Blue...REX

Wandell is from Johnson Controls a major player in building controls and hvac the bought York hvac to have a place to sell thier systems. JC is such problem to deal with the other hvac players TRANE CARRIER Mc Quay started building thier own controls into said equipment JC bought York to have a sales out let for their over priced convoluted control systems I prefer any other vendor when I have a choice

Wandell has the JC attitude down and they have attitude. Its were JC you dont know what you need of want we will tell you sign here then its oh you need time schedule in the controls Oh thats only a 12k up grade. You want change temps with out a billable service call oh thats only 24k Basically a evil bunch

Not that many Harley fanboys will be reading Cycle World, but they pretty much blew the lid off of any secret that Erik was a major force behind the VRod engine, by far H-D's most powerful. Of course, we all knew that thanks to Court and Co., but still, nice to have the air cleared in such a blatant manner.

WOW

Diablo:
1200cc, 150hp, 120ft/lbs, X1 chassis - I WANT IT!!!

"...it would straighten your arms like a Hayabusa, if not more so; and turbo-lag with the sophisticated variable-vane Aerocharger turbo was minimal. An ECU-controlled waste gate allowed the engine to use more boost and make more power on every gear shift, keeping full-throttle acceleration constant and the front wheel just skimming the pavement to well past 120 mph. Diablo POC prototypes also ran through durability test programs, and with their lower compression and the ECU limiting the time at full boost, they proved more reliable than the existing non-turbo engines.

I bought a Zinio subscription today, and just wrote a letter to the editor of Cycle World to say thank you for publishing the article.

If anybody on here talks to Steve Anderson, please say thank you for writing the article, and thank you to all those who spoke to him for contributing anonymously.

I hope there will be more articles on the shut down and what H-D have done.

Diablo sounds very cool, but I really like the idea of the short-stroke XB1350. The XBRR makes so much sense now.

Having worked at HD during the last of the good times, and laid off in the bad times, it doesn't surprise me of the poor and misguided decisions they have made. It is a compilation of the little things that made a once great company to work for just another big business. The short-sightedness of the sportbike scene also doesn't surprise me, all HD is concerned about is the HD "brand", which is failing in the false attempts to "be real". (screw it, let's ride) It really is a shame that with their corporate think they stifled Erik's truly great visions of THE American sportbike.

I wouldn't have had a problem If it had been prominently displayed and had some kind of a checkoff by it.
But yes, you will get it from that link, which is straight off their web site, 'until further notice'

Bought the mag online, only part way through now. Looking forward to getting it in hard copy.

I always wondered what they were doing with the XB 12 motor, stroking out the 9 motor didn't make sense if they wanted to build a competitive bike. I asked the salesman when I took a 12R our for a test why the didn't increase the bore for a faster spinning motor and he said something about the stroke giving the torque Buell wanted. Never made sense to me, and now I know.

Effen HD r'tards. Like I needed more reason to hate their corporate offices.

Okay, I have no issue with auto-renewal, but realize that my subscription effectively escapes the auto-renew anyway.

For you that want the subscription but now auto-renewal...Use the link I posted:

http://pay-cycleworld.com/code38E

First off, it is $18 for 28 issues versus $22 for the same. Secondly, it is poorly done, in that there is NO SUBMIT BUTTON. You absolutely have no way use this signup page in it's current form.

Fill it out, minus credit card information. Then, take a screen shot and e-mail it to Customer Service (cycleworld@emailcustomerservice.com).

Explain that you would like to sign up for the offer, but that there is no way to submit the form.

Further explain that, for security reasons, you have removed your credit card information.

I received e-mail response within 24 hours thanking me for my order, and indicating that I would receive an invoice in the
mail.

I will pay by check, send it in by mail, and have no auto-renewal.
